I've heard Bad Brains mostly plays reggae now because they can't play as fast anymore? Not sure if that's true or not, could be an old coworker bullshitting. Might affect how you pick.

I saw HR play a couple years ago and his solo stuff was a reggae. I don't think that Bad Brains is going to be reggae at all.
Also bought tickets for Dino Jr/BTS. That should ease the scheduling woes on Sunday at least a little. What announcements are we still waiting for, food and map?

Sounds about right. There may be an after show or two added, but that is speculation.
Black Pistol Fire is no longer in the app. Also to note, Danzig has an extra 10 minutes and the other two bands on the Roots Stage prior have been pushed back to 10 minutes.

How was day 1? Was ready to crash to make it over to tomorrow but now can't sleep.. too excited for this kickass fest. Went to Lagunitas today. Best brewery i've ever been to. Check it out if you can.
First day in the bag and my god I'm tired! The heat was real and unrelenting, but there was a pleasant breeze. Hung around Roots/Riot stage and thenew set up was SUPER NICE! Double screens and close enough to see the opposite stage. Basically just stayed there all day. Here's my HOT TAKE
Tobacco: I dug it. But the main man himself kinda just sat there the whole time so it wasn't super engaging. Trippy visuals on the screen though. INVSN: Refused 2.0! The lead singer brought almost 30 years of frontman experience to a super early set and blew everyone away! The rest of the band killed it too, and I thought the women vocalist made it super unique. Definitely a highlight of the weekend! LIARS: Saw them from the side stage. Sounded cool. Wedding dress was silly/weird. X: LIVING LEGENDS GOING ON 40 YEARS AS A BAND! Thought hey sounded good as a bunch of 60 year olds Buzzcocks: Also seen from the side. Thought they sounded great and their crowd was HUGE Death From Above: My favorite band of ALL TIME so this might be biased. Absolutely AMAZING despite the 2 false starts. Their banter was on point and the debut performance of Holy Books was unforgettable! Ministry: Only saw half (had to eat sometime!). Pretty coo I guess New Order: HOLY QUACK THEY WERE HEADLINER QUALITY. Just a huge dance party the whole set. The Joy Division encore was very touching NIN: Man, Trent is the real deal. So much raw emotion in his singing! Head Like a Hole was the perfect show closer, but I gotta admit, the encore was a little lackluster. Overall, the stripped down show was very engaging and fun and all the people around me were all very into it.
Wait...Y'all posted and checked into inforoo while at Riot Fest? Y'all are crazy. Best Shows of the weekend:
1. TV on the Radio (on the rail and he sang the lyrics I needed to hear directly at me, at a time when I needed to hear those words and it was very emotional) 2. Mike D - DJ sing-along dance party 3 Peaches 4. Wu-Tang 5. Ministry 6. Death From Above 1979 7. Black Pistol Fire 8. The Orwells 9. NIN 10. M.I.A
Worst show of the weekend: Bad Brains simply because the sound fucking sucked ass. I was in VIP less than 30 feet from them and holding conversations, without raising my voice. My inner 14 year old's heart was fucking breaking. QOTSA sound was horrible as well, but overall this was such a great weekend I can't really complain. My top 5 reminded me why festivals are my happy place and seriously gave me so many feels. I was crying at TVotR and telling my new friends, that I am not having a bad time I am just emotional right now.

Can't speak about the quality of the acoustics, but if you were gonna hold conversations throughout the show anyway (whether in a louder voice or not) you would not have experienced it properly in the first place.
I'll throw my top 10 up as well! 1. Death From Above 2. Nine Inch Nails 3. New Order 4. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones 5. INVSN 6. At the Drive-In 7. Gogol Bordello 8. Queens of the Stone Age 9. Dead Cross 10. Beach Slang Honorable mention: Peaches - went into that set knowing NOTHING. Was both shocked and awed. Bad Brains was by far the worst set for me. Didn't think they could get any worse than Roo 2012 but the did. It was kinda cool when the Lamb of God guy did some songs though. Friday was by far the best day for me. Pretty sure I gave myself whiplash headbanging at DFA. Left early on Sunday, but I did catch a couple Jawbreaker songs. They sounded great back by the soundboard and it was really touching seeing so many artists on the sides of the stage supporting their comeback. Can't wait til next year!

I would never hold conversations during the show. Everyone around us started talking because the sound was so bad, which we then got in on part of the conversation. I wouldn't have been in the pit if I was expecting to talk.
ATDI was just a kickass show. Everyone in the crowd was losing their minds from the first maraca rattles of Arc Arsenal. It was a great juxtaposition from seeing them in a small venue during SXSW to seeing them on a main festival stage.
Peaches was hilarious and a party. Vagina heads and interpretive cunnilingus dancing and all. It would be cool to see her in a small venue.
FIDLAR is a band I've wanted to see live for like 5 years but just haven't, mainly because they always are scheduled against something else I want to see at festivals. Worth the wait. Ya get the impression that they're carrying the millennial punk rock torch from here on out.
Qotsa is one of my favorite bands but I probably have had enough of seeing them at festivals. They play a default setlist plus a few new songs. The new songs were the best part of the show, as well as Feel Good Hit of the Summer and A Song for the Dead.
The Mike D dj set was cool but I'm not sure that festival was the right place for it. At first the crowd didn't seem to be feeling it. The best parts were the rare Beastie Boy tracks he performed like Get It Together, as well seeing him cover Tribe.
Fishbone was a good show but we sort of walked around while listening to them. Glad to have checked em off the bucket list.
Overall this festival is awesome. It reminded me of Fun Fun Fun Fest a lot. The only lame part was the lack of credit card transaction options for booze. We'll definitely be back next year.

Gotcha.
I've had a similar experience once with Lana Del Rey at GovBall, except that people started performing karaoke in lieu of talking. Made the most of a bad set.
