Temples, The Districts, King Gizz, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Sylvan Esso, Hundred Waters, Shamir, & Purity Ring were all the shows I've seen at The Other Tent, and they were all pretty great sets. Particularly loved The Distrcits, Sylvan Esso, & Hundred Waters!
I think it'll be interesting to see how many people just end up spending their entire Bonnaroo, or close to it, at this stage.
IMO, and this is probably inaccurate, I think it will lead to more confirmation bias for the people running the show that think cheap EDM is what's going to save Bonnaroo. If you have one stage entirely dedicated to one genre, while people who don't care about said genre are split among the other four stages, there's probably going to be a proportionally larger volume of people here during any given time slot compared to This/That tent, or perhaps even Which. Why not just segregate every genre to a specific stage, and throw the biggest acts on the What?
Higher ups are going to see that and think, "Hey, this is the most popular thing at Bonnaroo now!", and push for more billing geared toward that audience. I don't think Bonnaroo is ever going to be able to compete with the one track festivals that cater to this crowd, and I think they're starting to dig their own grave by imitating the competition instead of elevating above them.
If they're not gonna go Sahara levels of production value on this thing, which I sincerely doubt they are, I don't see the point. Logistically, Bonnaroo is inherently going to exclude people that are singularly interested in EDM, especially given the dearth of EDM heavy festivals around the country, but now Roo is trying to cater to people singularly focused on EDM? I don't get it.

2009 - I regret not spending more time in Other the day of the African theme, but damn that lineup was stacked.
2010 - We had a dance party for a less than half full Los Amigos Invisibles set. Medeski, Martin, Wood was a nice Sunday set,
2011 - Justin Townes Earle was fun and I got tired of waiting for Bootsy Collins
2012 - EMA, Cave Singers and White Denim later were great ways to kick off Thursday. The Word late night was a blast.
2013- Killer Mike! Four Tet should have been late night. Action Bronson was probably the wildest set to open a day I've experienced at any fest. Sunday was filled with fun acts this year.
2014 - I missed this year and it was one of my favorite overall Bonnaroo lineups ever.
2015 - It was too early for a full effect King Gizzard experience. What a great Flying Lotus late night! Jamie xx is probably my favorite Other set ever. Caribou closing was sweet.
2016 - Roman GianArthur and Vulfpeck were fun Thursday sets. Dungen was a good start to Saturday and Leon Bridges was a highlight of my weekend.

Jamie xx was all time, man. I wish Dungen had longer. They're too good and too psychedelic for just a forty-five minute set.

I've already had several friends who are going that basically have said they were just going to spend their entire time at this stage. Personally, I doubt I catch more than a few shows there, but who knows, maybe I'll wander over there at some point and find something worth seeing.
Fuck I have forgotten so many other good sets at The Other Tent (RIP). St. Paul & the Broken Bones was spiritual, MS. MR., Chvrches, and without lookin' into the golden years there were also some great rock acts that killed that stage. I believe Devotchka was there, and Kenny Rogers brought out Lionel Ritchie back in 2012 and that blew my mind!

Did you make it to Other for Weird Al and Billy Idol? Seems like if I remember correctly the conflict with the Jim James Super Jam was killing you.

Idol, Weird Al, and JJ Superjam were all on at the same time. Any of those three would be #2 on my must list if they were on the 2017 lineup. The times they are a changing...

Le sigh. That is still the absolutely worst conflict I've ever had in 10 years of Bonnaroo. I started at "Weird Al," and heard one of my favorite songs from his very first album which was great! Then ran over to Billy Idol, but it was the "we're gonna catch a breather with a few slow songs so everyone else can grab beers and pee," part of the set, but I stuck it out fer a while. As his set was comin' toward the end I caught the rest of the Super Jam and probably had the most fun there.
Fuck you AC/S fer that. And the 2010 Conan Fiasco. Seriously.

That was probably my favorite Super Jam from the years I attended. Billy Idol coming out for Bang A Gong was nice. A few years earlier, I lost my shit when I saw Billy along with Tom Morello cover The Stooges' Down On The Street at the pool at The Mirage in Vegas for Perry Farrell's birthday. I'm glad security let me slide, because I had to have been the hypest person in attendance.

I love how this thread has turned into a post mortem for the Other Tent.
It's a microcosm of Inforoo: the only Bonnaroos worth discussing are in the past, not the future.
I'm not necessarily a fan of the change from a music standpoint. But I'm hopeful that the extra production finally makes Roo up their game production-wise. Their stages/tents have been stagnant for years now. Big screens at the What stage should be standard. I'm looking for more over the top production from Roo in future years. Roo needs to be half Tomorrow land/half Coachella if they want to continue booking less than desirable lineups. If I have to see Marshmellow at least give me a top notch light show. I want to see the other in action before I throw stones at it. My expectations is that it is Perry's Lolla stage- Bonnafied. Lots of lights, very little artistry. If it sucks at least the riff-raff is in the far corner and I have 4 stages/tents to choose from.
