Maybe we could start a poll that would solve this whole headliners vs. undercard debate. As we all know ACE closely monitors this board so we could be providing them valuable research for future booking strategies...

Undercard would win here. ACE already did their own internal research last year; headliner won there. They booked the biggest headliner imaginable as a result, and are doing better for it.

I was just playing because nobody cares what inforoo wants because there are only like 37 of us.

By their own internal research do you mean booking the headliners they did and seeing whether the festival tanked?
Nah, just don't have J. Cole be your most popular act in the top 4.
J Cole couldn't move tickets like Pearl Jam
I always forget Pearl Jam was there. Probably because I'm not a Pearl Jam fan so I didn't see them. Point being, I think we can all agree this years set of headliners are much more "friendly" than last years, ignoring for quality.

I can see people saying LCD shouldn't have been a headliner, although at bonnaroo I think they should be, but Pearl jam sells out in minutes and tickets go for 400 dollars after market in NY. Plus they match roo better than U2 does. Or at least they used too

Don't disagree with Pearl Jams popularity. I don't get this matching Roo thing. People always bring up the type of artist that should be playing Roo. Maybe it's because I'm newer to the festival scene and Roo in general, but in the year 2017 I don't think what works for Roo is really any different than what works for the other major festivals. I could be completely wrong though.
I will continue to say it. It's not the headliners, it's those wretched undercards. The 16-17 Bonnaroo headliner pool would have sold fine if they had better support.

17 is selling fine. 16 was bad. Its the undercard to you, and most of the people who visit inforoo. It is the headliners to the overwhelming majority of the people who attend these events.

You don't think this undercard is targeting a new demo though? There's some real garbage, local EDM fest bookings going on here. I might be wrong, but I can't imagine U2 being the culprit for bringing out all these Getter fans or whatever.
Edit: I see what you mean though. I guess I'm just saying those casual fans are fickle and could take it or leave it. Concentrate on your loyal, hardcore base imo.

Its targetting the same demo they have always targetted: college kids. College kids today fucking LOVE shitty EDM (and Twenty One Pilots). The audience is turning over. The majority of ppl who go to Bonnaroo and other fests, are not the same crowd who went 5 years ago. People get older and move on.

I mean there was still shitty EDM and good EDM 5 years ago, even at Bonnaroo. At least half of this statement still holds true today. Meanwhile there are college kids getting down to cool shit in the Yuma this weekend - proof you can have both.

Cant compare Coachella or Lolla to anyone else. Both can book anyone they want and sell out. Its become more about the brand and the status symbol attending represents than the music... I know thats not true for people here, not true for you or I, but its true for the majority of kids attending.
Look at some of the other lineups inforoo has gone nuts over in the last few months: FYF, BC, Day for Night.. All amazing lineups in my opinion, all near major cities in good locations too. None of them have capacities over 40k, none of them are selling out (FYF might eventually.. But its not exactly Lolla or Coachella level sell outs where they dont even have to release the lineup to sell hundreds of thousands of tickets).
Coachella and Lolla sell themselves based on the brand name. People like buying brand names. Thats what separates Pepsi and Coke from RC Cola and Faygo. Its the same thing, but people overwhelmingly go with the name they know.
I doubt Moderat and Nico Jaar pulled particularly well at Coachella either, but they book them anyway.
They are a brand name... Personally I think the Lolla lineup kind of sucks this year. They sold a hundred thousand tickets the day before it was even announced.
For Coach and Lolla the lineup is secondary. The name is what sells.
It's more than just about the music. 'The Farm' is a shithole outside of music. The Coachella Valley is a venue that cannot be replicated.
I'm not just dick riding here, I truly feel its festival's best parts all polished into one. I realize what you mean they are THE brand at this point, but I guess all I'm saying is it's a reputation they've earned, built on quality and consistency.

Anyway, this isn't worth arguing about more. Bonnaroo is selling thousands of tickets less than normal this year, despite having their biggest headliner ever. That's still a problem for them, in my opinion. But I guess people can disagree.

Todd Terje, Underworld, and St Germain all had pretty thin crowds. Every set doesn't need to be packed.
Your entire argument is the undercard is the problem... so you are saying they need to book more acts with pretty thin crowds that arent packed? You think that will move more tickets?
