Reason number 3,482 why the "vibez" of camping are SOOOO much better than a nice secure, wind-resistant, air-conditioned, currently open for business and not sending their customers to WalMart parking lots, rental house or a hotel.
I've seen lots of folks on Reddit tout camping for the vibez on posts where people ask about accommodations, even if they explicitly say they don't want to camp.
Adjusting back to reality after my first Coachella is tough but damn what an incredible weekend.
Hope all of you weekend two folks can get into camping sooner rather than later.
I wasn't sure if Coachella was going to be able to live up to the hype I had built up for it, but it easily exceeded my high expectations. The production value of every stage was top notch. I went to Pano last year and it was nice to see that main stage again in its full glory. I didn't expect the main stage speaker towers to have lights that were synced up with the light show as well which I thought was a cool touch.
Also, every festival needs to have a Yuma Tent. That disco shark sucked me in and I didn't want to leave.
The art was awesome as well, the wire mesh buildings were mesmerizing at night and the spectrum tower was cool as shit at night.
My favorite shows for the weekend were probably:
1. Odesza - Those drones man, blew my mind to see something like that while partaking in some party favors.
2. Portugal. The Man - This was my 5th time seeing Portugal and easily the best show I have seen them put on, loved them closing with Hey Jude too.
3. Soulwax - What a fucking awesome show. I was on the right side of the tent with a great view of the stage and tons of room to move around and dance.
4. Jungle - See above for same description as soulwax. These guys fucking killed it. I originally wanted to cut out of their set a little early to catch more of Tom Misch, but it was such a good show we stayed til the end and caught the last 10 or 15 min of Tom Misch, which was still awesome.
5. Vince Staples - He killed it and I loved the idea behind his production. Seeing him bring Kendrick out was an awesome moment too.
6. David Byrne - Such a unique show, loved hearing some Talking Heads live, but his solo stuff was great too.
7. The War on Drugs - I only caught the last 15 or so minutes of their set due to the overlap with Vince Staples, but damn they sounded great. They's probably be higher if I could have seen the whole set.
I saw plenty of other great shows as well, but these were some of my favorites that stood out.
"My $2000 accommodation is better than your $100 one, idiots!" Uhhhhh... cool.
the thinking is if you admit you go camping because it's cheaper that's fine, but if you try to make it be like "YOU ARE THE IDIOTS WHO ARE MISSING OUT, CAMPING VIBEZ OR YOU DIDN'T ACTUALLY GO TO COACHELLA, #DAYZEROCREW" then you can be poked fun at
To be fair, a group of 4 could easily find a room from $700-1000 and split. You really wouldn't be paying all that much more. You'd probably have to include a rental though.

literally no one here has said that ever
I've seen a few people on the Coachella subreddit basically say that.
Camping is better than staying at a house or hotel, especially if your lot 8. You spend so much less on alcohol when your camping spot is about a 7 minute walk from the Yuma tent.
My favorite part about camping is not worrying about how I'll get home at the end of the night. Very rarely am I sober enough to drive when the festival ends, so it's great being able to just stumble back to camp and not deal with a shuttle or uber.

My thought process is, if you're able to get shitfaced drunk at Coachella, you're doing the festival WAY wrong because that means you're spending way too much time locked inside a beer jail.

... never said I drink at Coachella. Wayyyy too hot for that. There are other things that impair my driving ability.
I flew in from Philly this year and stayed at a hotel off the tennis garden shuttle line about 6 miles away. I camp at firefly every year so I completely understand the appeal of camping, but for Coachella I was back at the hotel by 2 am each night after leaving the fest at 1 am. Having a late night shower, sleeping in a bed, hot free breakfast in the morning, and being able to hang by the pool in the mornings were nice perks.
Gotta say though, I'm 28 and definitely think I've started leaning towards the older side of festival crowds.

There’s a Palm Springs shuttle stop to the fest, so you don’t even need to get a rental car.
I've camped a ton for diff weekends for DMB, Phish, PJ, etc but my first real festival experience was Hangout in 2012 which spoiled the shit out of me. I don't mind camping at all but if I ever have an opportunity to go the route of sleeping in a bed, showering, having access to a pool during the day, etc I'm going to do that. The idea of going to Coachella and having to worry about the camping in the heat as opposed to stayin in a badass house in Palm Desert, it just feels like such a no brainer. If they didn't have the shuttle it'd be a bigger issue but that's not the case.

You definitely need a rental to get from a nearby airport, unless you sacrifice your first born to fly into Palm Springs.
Yeah I prefer a rental because I can go where I want when I want. I don't have to wait on shuttle lines and I can find some snacks whenever/wherever. Plus, like Fozzie said, it just makes getting from the airport easier.
