We don't have a California thread so I'll ask here as there seems to be a lot of L.A. natives.
I'll be in Los Angeles for the LCD/YYY's shows next month, staying near the Capitol Records building. Any food rec's? We like steakhouses, french, vietnamese in particular. Also looking for dispensary rec's.
-La Poubelle - French restaurant with incredible steak frites -Paley / Birch - good all around resturants -Luv2Eat - Hidden gem Thai food place thats super authentic and unreal. As close as I get to Vietnamese sorry -Frolic Room - dive bar (like real dive bar) -Good Times at Davey Wayne's - pretty upscale bar but chill; themed as a 70s house party -Mama Shelter - incredible hotel rooftop -Sentes + Vinyl - hidden secret bar thats in the back of a pizza restaurant called 800 Degrees. You walk upstairs and you're in the secret lounge where they play sweet Vinyl records. We are trying to pregame the Friday LCD/YYYs show there -Jones - Rock themed restaurant in West Hollywood, awesome drinks named after famous rock songs -Delancey's - hidden gem Italian place
For steakhouses, there is a really good one called BOA Steakhouse in WeHo about 10 mins from where you're staying but it's pretty expensive
I live a mile or two from the Bowl, those are some of my top recs
My airbnb is 25 feet from La Poubelle, I've been eyeing that place pretty hard
My girlfriend and I love that place, she's French Canadian and spent a lot of time in Paris, so it's a special spot for us.
It's in a little strip of restaurants called Franklin Village and while I haven't eaten at all of them, it's a really cool spot at night, very casual but lively. Nice location!

My place has a little balcony that overlooks that strip, I'm very much looking forward to this now
I don’t know if I’m just getting old, but man, yesterday was a challenge to get through.
Bleachers and Kali were my top 2 of the day. Jamiroquai was great, but I was ready for bed after a few songs. The couple acts we caught in the Sonora were really good too.
Saw a funny post on Reddit saying the last secret Do LaB was Justice because of this video. Seems like pickpocketing is a big problem for weekend two thus far.
BROCKHAMPTON: I was floored. Did not expect it to be so good. The orchestra sounded great, they had a very interesting stage presence, and the crowd was insane. Best show of the weekend. Joba is still my favorite
Beyoncé: whenever she was on the stage this show was impeccable. However there was a LOT of time that she wasn’t. The sorority thing got old and she definitely leaned on it. Felt more like a show curated by Beyoncé that features her than a Beyoncé show. Glad wk2 still got Jay and DC. Also holy crap if she isn’t the perfect specimen of a human idk who is.
The Weeknd: is he contractually obligated to shout into the mic or riff half the set? He sounded great when he actually sang. His stage setup kinda flopped for me. It took up a ton of space without really doing very much and just kind looked in the way
Portugal. the Man: If these guys sounded this good on record they would be unstoppable. Stellar show! The weekend kinda lacked a rock show of this capacity and they filled that gap wonderfully. I just wish I liked their recorded music better.
Eminem: mehhhhh this was the least attended headliner set I’ve ever seen. Dre and 50 were awesome and there were a few songs I was feeling but the backtrack was really annoying. As was his hype man who would be better as a wedding DJ. The Re series of albums from Eminem are terrible and it felt verrryyy sing songy. It’s such a shame that someone so talented as him puts on such a lame show.
Soulwax: Everything I’d hoped for. Glad I finally got to check them off the bucket list. That Krack > Binary absolutely slapped, non stop dance party
Tyler: Had a great stage setup and put on a reasonably high energy main stage show. I’m glad a lot of the crowd actually was there for him. He also kept talking about how much better we were than last weekend (a sentiment that was shared by mannnnyyyy artists)
Chic: Nike Rodgers is a national treasure and we must do everything we can to make sure he is always healthy and safe. That set was so much fun and he played all the hits. I also got to meet him before the show
Noname: she was pretty drunk and it was funny seeing her straight up stop songs because she felt the alcohol mixed with the emotions of the songs would be too much.
Kali Uchis: Fun music that is as pleasant on the ears as Kali herself is on the eyes. Tyler cameo was a nice way to top it off.
Talaboman: Best Yuma set I caught no contest. Better than Detroit Love
St. Vincent: caught the first three songs and they were really great. The show was really well thought out and executed.
Haim: I would have loved this show if I were a fan of them. Really great production and they sounded good. There were times cameramen were very in the way of the crowd seeing them which was annoying. I just don’t really understand how they got the slot they did. Pretty much everyone on that line was more deserving than them imo
King Krule: I was expecting this to be kind of sluggish and drab but it ended up being pretty high energy and fun.
Cardi B: this show was over the top in every positive way. Really fun and I’m glad it was only 35 minutes because she doesn’t have a ton of sonic diversity and I think keeping it short and concise worked out in her favor. She just continues to exceed expectations every step of her career and i hope she continues to do good things
My only complaint outside of the mess that was Thursday would be a few more mainstage rock acts. I normally hate when people say this but as a lover of most genres represented at Coachella they did kind of put rock music way on the back burner. To be fair, I skipped Fleet Foxes and Oh Sees to get a good spot for Beyoncé so some of that blame is on me I also forgot to mention that David Byrne was great

So you skipped War on Drugs, skipped Fleet Foxes, left St. Vincent after three songs, didn't see A Perfect Circle and want more big rock sets?

I did catch WoD for the latter half of their set. Didn’t really think there was much to talk about there. I’m not a huge fan of theirs. If anything St. Vincent is art pop so she doesn’t quite scratch that itch, but she scratches a different itch incredibly well. And I saw Fleet Foxes last year on their tour which was spectacular. It’s much more that they inconveniently right before Beyoncé, who had an absurd crowd. I don’t really think the problem starts at Coachella. Last year brought very few big/great rock albums compared to hip hop.
To each their own. Song selection was subpar IMO, but Maynard's vocals were totally on point, guitars sounded great, and I dug their stage setup. If you were a fan you liked it, if you weren't you wouldn't.

To be honest, I'm not really a fan but I saw the first half of their set weekend one and enjoyed it. I was just laying in the grass with a perfect view of the stage and taking it all in on the last night.
