So I'm sitting at LAX waiting for a flight (only 4 more hours due to a delay FML) and I thought I'd share my thoughts on my first Coachella while it's all still relatively fresh in my mind.
Veteran boardies have been wrong in the past, but I bet this rumor all stems from the same place.
edit: If they do in fact play though, this may be the earliest scoop in festival board history.
The current theory is they're booked for South American dates in March 2018 already ending two weeks before Coachella, they said on some radio station interview that they're "going to be playing some big shows next spring," they did the same thing in 2005/2006 where they played LA dates in late 2005 (they are playing Hollywood Bowl in October) and then came back for another round of U.S. dates around Coachella in 2006, etc. So we're nine months from lineup drop, but that's a decent amount of evidence and makes a lot of sense to go with Beyonce and a '17 GV leftover (Chance, Frank, NIN).
I'd be interesting to see from this poster if it's a "scoop" or he's just heard the same things.

Well it looks like they are touring the US extensively in the Fall and that run includes 6 CA shows (two of those being at the Hollywood Bowl).
Maybe South American shows in the Spring could be viewed as, "big"?
The point is they played 6 CA shows in fall 2005 and headlined 2006 Coachella, so 6 CA shows in fall 2017 and headlining 2018 follows the pattern.
Re: "big shows in spring" comment, it could really be anything.
I'm not saying they're definitely playing, just there's a real argument to be made pretty early and they would fit who GV is looking for in another headliner with Beyonce.

Not quite. The spring tour was mentioned on the Depeche Mode forum and one of the mods specifically said, "Coachella".
