Are they headlining material for a fest GovBall's size? I'm not challenging the idea - I'm genuinely curious as to thoughts.
Either way, I do hope they end up at the fest, as I think that'd be a killer show.
Its borderline. It is Yeah Yeah Yeahs in NYC. I definitely think they could headline. They could also just take a preheadlining slot like Beck did. I just hope they play. I think Randalls would be a great venue to see them.

No way in hell can Yeah Yeah Yeahs headline Govball. On their last tour they booked Barclays Center and they only ended up selling 3.5k tickets. To be fair they did play that prospect park show 5 months prior, but even that show only had like 6k and it had strong support from Flaming Lips and The Darkness.
EDIT: I should add though that I LOVE YYYs and hope they pop up on the lineup. Just not headlining. I could see them either preheadlining the main stage or closing Honda.

They did around 6k according to Billboard but yeah, they're subs at best unless it's a Phoenix/Childish Gambino scenario. That Propect Park show was for free too.
I could see YYYs getting the same placement as Wu Tang did on this year's bill, and then either pre-headling for another rock band (Pearl Jam/Foo Fighters/Vampire Weekend), or opposes a hip-hop closer that would outdraw anything against it anyways (Drake/Weeknd/Meh. Cole)

I was at that show. Was it really that small? Didn't feel like it

The Barclays show? I stand corrected I read the Billboard article that said there was 5.5k there. Still not that impressive.
I was at the Prospect Park show, though, and I think 6k is a fair estimate but that's just my guess.
By the way, looking at that list; Barclays had so many great shows in 2013. Wonder what the hell happened.
That was when MSG was still undergoing their renovation so all the big shows had to go to Barclays. It's a shame since Barclays has a much better sound and ambiance based on my experiences with both.

Totally. I think Prudential in Newark is even way better than MSG at this point.
What's wrong with MSG? Genuinely curious as I've never been, but I love a Peruvian restaurant right across the street from there.
I've only been there three times, but to summarize:
-Overpriced even by arena standards due to its prime location. -The general admission floor (when applicable) is sectioned off between East and West, rather than one big communal floor. -Sound volume is way too low and doesn't properly reach the back of the venue. -Fucking freezing inside due to the A/C being cranked all the way up.
Admitted, I'm also salty that one of the times I attended was totally ruined by a bunch of cunts near me in the crowd. Luckily on my next visit I manned up and confronted these types of characters, which made the experience more tolerable. Obviously that isn't a strictly an MSG thing (though I think it's amplified due to it being in Manhattan). I also will admit that arenas in general aren't great places for concerts. But I have no interest or intention whatsoever in visiting again. If there's a band I want to see that's playing there, I would much rather travel further and spend more money to get a better context to experience the show in.
MSG is also pretty magical. You can clearly see that the musicians feel it too, and put in some special performances. I saw U2 a couple years back at MSG and it was absolutely amazing. Saw Drake at MSG and he brought out TI, Fat Joe, Cam'ron, Juelz Santana, and J Cole. Pretty special stuff

Definitely the main reason I don't like going to concerts in arenas.
But Radiohead came there last year, and I had to see them, so no other choice for that.
Also, when an artist/a band gets big enough to headline an arena, I generally lose my interest in them. If it's a must, I prefer catching them on a festival setting.

Yeah I also prefer a festival setting if it's not possible to see a band at general admission floor level in an arena.
I was there for Radiohead as well last year (night 2). Good performance on their part, but there was no comparison whatsoever to the brilliance of their Osheaga set that I saw four days later.

That link says 5,524 / 7,441, meaning that with the upper deck closed and the stage moved up a little, the total capacity would have been around 7k, but they only sold 5.5.
Cool link, interesting to see how well/poorly a lot of shows sold. Like The Postal Service - really impressed that they were able to sell 23,000 tickets.
Late to the party but I want to join in on the MSG hate. It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get a decent seat/GA floor ticket to shows there due to the amount of corporate gatekeepers that have their hands in the ticket cookie pool, so to speak (we'll set aside the fact that several acts scalp their own tickets). The tours that struggle to fill arenas still end up basically selling out MSG unless it's a REALLY ambitious booking. Also, as someone mentioned, the fact that they can't do a full GA floor unlike EVERY other arena does in the country is absurd. If they're really concerned about crowd-control, you split the sections down the middle (from stage to the back), not this East/West nonsense.
Also, re-listening to The War On Drugs "Lost In A Dream" at the moment. Would be awesome to get them doing a 6-7pm set at Gov Ball next year, even if they strike me as more of a Panorama type band.
