I was thinking of buying a VIP pass in advance this year but given the clues, will hold off. Nothing against hip-hop/EDM as that is, essentially, what the majority of what the young folks listen to these days but it's just not my bag.

IMO the decision on VIP passes for fests is completely headliner driven, especially cause its super easy to get a good spot for rock and alt acts in the current festival market. I had a VIP pass for Meadows this year and it was really great having a dope spot for Jay Z cause that show was packed, but I rolled up to TV on the Radio as they were just starting and I was still 7th row.
Even tho the undercard seems to be spotty from the clues, the Headliners are still a complete mystery.

If you go to this fest and complain about too many kids, 21+ VIP is a great option.

Thats true, that stuff doesnt really bother me as much tho. Especially because a lot of the kids stuff can get sorted out by show self selection

It's more for comfort and because I have a +1 (wife) at this point. Agreed that, minus headliners, can get an easy spot for any of the alt/indie acts so people seem to care less and less. That being said, the VIP was super helpful at the Meadows so I could catch all of Sleigh Bells and still get a decent spot for RHCP.
