All three of these bands put on some of the best rock shows out there. I would like to see them all get the bump. The problem is they will tour heavily in much smaller venues and at a cheaper price point. There's really no reason for one to ever travel catch a headliner like this.
Unless we are talking about the desert, because AM and Queens' music is almost magical in that environment. I would travel for that.
The other factor that I think folks are failing to consider is that there isnt a ton of Rock/Indie Pop type stuff that could potentially headline festivals anymore, but every festival wants at least 1 Rock Headliner. Thats how you get the Killers headlining Lollapalooza this year, when they havent released anything in 5 years. If you are a fest that decides they want two Rock bands in the top 4, Arctic Monkeys makes a ton of sense for one of those two spots, because there are so few right now that otherwise youd probably be getting a retread.

It really depends though. With fees at venues these days it's pretty hard to see a show for under $40, at least in Miami.
Shaky Knees wasn't possible for me this year, but I realized after the fact that I spent $55 to see Phoenix in Miami and $45 to see The Shins in St. Petersburg which makes the value of a festival like Shaky Knees where both were playing look like a steal in comparison.

One would pay on average $50 for those bands in Dallas. I get hitting the date if it's within striking distance, but I don't see many traveling across the country for it.
Edit: though I guess one could argue that city fests don't rely as much on outside money.

Did they not realize that they played to an extremely small crowd at Made In America in 2013? No way they are getting bigger with this new album. If Panorama does the two smaller headliners next year again, then maybe they could combine forces with Phoenix.

They were booked to headline Riot fest and are the #2 for their day at Outside Lands. I think it would be fine if they were booked alongside another almost headliner, like Phoenix was with Gambino.

Considering MIA is a heavy hip hop fest, in a city that has a very fickle music fan base and will be 5 years ago, that isn't surprising. I think every alt/rock/metal act at MIA ends up with a small crowd.

Very true. I can remember Nine Inch Nails being practically empty as well.

I'm kinda surprised/wondering why they were not OK being #2 for Meadows (for example same day as Gorillaz, similar to Phoenix-Gambino). Because Jay Z and RHCP are much bigger than QOTSA.
It's gonna be 8th GovBall next year, and with LN's support, I think GovBall can be considered as a major fest now. I don't think QOTSA will headline this festival anytime soon.

Well Future has that spot and will probably draw a bigger crowd than Gorillaz or what QOTSA could have done.
Who knows about next year. Still a little far out. I think it is a possibility. But definitely not one near the top of the list. I think next year should be great, a lot of headliners seem to have new material on the way.
Thanks bruh. I feel like people can't truly appreciate Chinese food until they've had NYC Chinese food. Or for that matter, appreciate anything until they've had the NYC version of it

Never had Chinese outside of the NYC area. Wouldnt surprise me though. I think lots of food suck everywhere but the north east.

At the same time, there's also very little not delicious about General Tso's

That was a great set though definitely didn't make the case for MIA to include any rock/alt/indie in the years to come. I would see QUOTSA play one of the side stages opposite a hip-hop/EDM headliner but definitely not popular enough in the US with the Gov Ball crowd to headline (same goes for NIN).
The 2 spots near me in Little neck make the best I've ever had
Found a spot in the LES that makes it just like the spot around the corner from me used to before they unexpectedly closed (still salty about this.) Just the right amount of crunch and not flooded with sauce.
Anyway back into it and let's get nuts... Friday - Vampire Weekend/Pearl Jam vs A$AP Rocky Saturday - Drake/Rihanna vs Ellie Goulding/My Chemical Romance Sunday - ATCQ vs Lana Del Rey

Some bad feeling in my gut tells me that Lana gets billed above ATCQ in that scenario. Even in NYC.

I want an MCR reunion more than most people on this thread but I don't expect it so soon

you've got six headliners and three #1's there bud
Sorry, looks like you're misunderstanding me. The slash should be read as "or," not "and"
I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility Founders pulls Vampire Weekend or Pearl Jam, Drake or Rihanna, and Tribe to headline their premier fest. We're only three years removed from Outkast/ Jack White/ Vampire Weekend and one year removed from The Strokes/ The Killers/ Kanye

I doubt Rihanna tours next year. Also, 2018 would be 3 years of a break since Drake 2015.
