Rock has died so many times, but these things move in cycles. Read Meet Me in the Bathroom (or, you know, remember that era, if you're one of us who lived through it). Rock was "dead" at the turn of the millennium, and then the Strokes happened, and that whole indie rock boom followed.
If we don't suffer an asteroid strike or destroy ourselves, we'll all get to see several genres of music, rock included, go through cycles of death and renaissance before the singularity happens and all music is replaced by a clanging noise that our hybrid synthetic brains will interpret as the most beautiful sound ever made.
I think we all keeping saying that but I've never seen it THIS far removed from the cultural zeitgeist. I imagine there will be some update to the EDM-rock infused stuff that is popular on alt radio now but the idea of a guitar-bass-drums combo ever making a big splash seems minimal at this point.
Nah the kids love Arctic Monkeys and Tame Impala. I feel like there just hasn't been a big release for the genre in the last couple years. I can't think of a rock album since Currents that felt like a band seeking and deserving mass success

Greta Van Fleet is selling extremely well for the dates they just announced.

If Greta Van Fleet are rock's most exciting band rock is actually dead.

not saying they are, I dont like them much, but it shows the demand for new rock is there
Been having this debate. I like Greta Van Fleet and think they're fun but I know there's going to be a huge backlash coming if they keep getting bigger.
If they become this huge sensation headlining band...good. Whether you think it's original (its not) or not doesn't change the fact that it's actual guitar music and it can help get us out of Bass Heavy Thump Rap Rock phase or whatever you want to call Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots.

there have also been some pretty important people who have been sold on the rejuvenation of rock music. Scooter Braun was on the Bill Simmons Podcast and he seemed pretty sure that Rock was gonna come back, citing Greta and one of his own clients. Not saying that a guy like Braun is always right or anything like that but hes someone who can make himself right by promoting and signing more Rock artists

Yeah I listened to that - Spencer Lee Band is his client and I'm not impressed by their singles. They're trying to be a Bruno Mars like funk version of a Southern rock band it's not great. They're actually playing Gov Ball.
There are a bunch of pretty great artists lined up for Saturday. Try your best to not miss Kelela. She brings Take Me Apart all the way alive. I'm blown away

So damn excited for that Gambino show. Crazy how the last time I saw him headline it was at Hammerstein Ballroom, now hes about to do the friggin Garden.
Shout out Gov Ball for converting me into a full-fledged Gambino fan. So amazing he's graduated to playing the fucking Garden. Very excited for what this show is gonna look like (hoping it's a central stage)
1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/4: knock2 3/7: Inhaler* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
Are the tix for Gambino gonna go fast? Also what are the chances that the Gambino date will conflict with The Meadows Friday of this year?
Based on the dates it looks like he's expecting to do two nights at MSG, so I'd expect the first show to sell out on Friday. If we're basing dates off last year, unfortunately his 9/14 show will 100% conflict
