Initial impressions: Pretty solid lineup. Not quiet OMG too good to be true-level, but quite good.
Jazz/Improv: Roscoe Mitchell, Milford Graves, Evan Parker are legends mixed in with the likes of Craig Taborn, Peter Evans, Tyshawn Sorey, who are (comparatively) up-and-comers. All excellent musicians I've listened to extensively. Áine O'Dwyer is one of the names I'm most surprised to see appear on the poster. Her album Music For Church Cleaners from a few years ago is fantastic, and she's put out some new releases as well. I'm a bit torn on The Thing. Mats Gustafsson just doesn't resonate with me the way that many of his peers do, but I wouldn't pass up on a chance to see him, especially considering he'll be alongside Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Paal Nilssen-Love. Nels Cline is great.
Other: ICE has me excited. F'ing Lightning Bolt. They played a super tiny venue in SLC when we lived there and I missed 'em, so I need to make up for that. GY!BE. Lucius. Four Tet. Sam Amidon. Suuns. Jenny Hval. Laurel Halo. Julie Byrne.

Spent some time listening to artists that were previously unknown to me, and I'm definitely getting more excited. Right now I've got 23 "must see," 16 "want to see," and 14 "wouldn't mind seeing." That's way more than I'll have time to see during the festival!

This might be the show of the festival. They came through the Pilot Light a couple years ago and played for about three hours on a Tuesday night. I really hope they will be closing down a night. It'd be a crime to give them an hour slot. The Lineup is very percussion and Jazz heavy. I've been told about a few things (like The Thing) to check out that are big deals. I'm very excited about this, Kid Koala, Four Tet, MMW, bela's weird stuff and GYBE for starters. They've tried to get Bela every year of this so you know they've been talking ideas. I bet his sets are special.
Is there anything that wasn't teased that's going to get me excited?
I don't know your personal tastes, but the biggest "oooooh" non-teased name for me is Juana Molina. I've seen her live at least 4 times over the last 10+ years and she gets better every time. If you're not familiar check out these two videos:

I've never listened to her. The one I was mist excited about that wasn't teased is Lightning Bolt.

I'm going. It's a long way off, but we're putting together a huge guide, so be sure to look for it when you get in to town. Dave Maynar might even contribute if I can convince him.

I'm REALLY excited to read that Jon Gibson has been added... fantastic minimalist musician (founding member of the Philip Glass Ensemble... had a great album in 1973 called "Visitations"). He's definitely on my "Must See" list!!!

When was Jon Gibson added? I didn't see an announcement about it so I'm wondering when that happened. Have they added anyone else other than Yuka C. Honda?
They sent an email couple of hours ago. John Haywood and Jon Gibson (2 performances) in addition to Yuka C. Honda.
Yo catfoodparty, should we expect bigger names for additions or stuff Phyre Fest doesn’t know. Just kidding, Phyre Fest gets lost with EVERYTHING.
Not looking for names (just size of additions).
a handful of additions - size is relative, i'm a terrible gauge. barring any last minute surprises, i'd say mid-size for this event. working on a few cool things~~ been a few rumblings about an all night thing????
