First few thoughts for lunch are Chivo and Bistro at the Bijou on Gay and Stock and Barrel on Market Square. All three are convenient to the festival and semi swanky. garageland, if you want to break up hotel breakfast with diner breakfast, Pete's can't be beat.
Stock and Barrel is the burger/bourbon place?
I’ll add Pete’s to my list. I’m a sucker for one name greasy spoons.

Yes, it is sang_xcx approved. Chivo is fancy tacos. Bistro is American.

Not seeing these on the schedule yet, so I'm not sure what time they're happening... but I'm excited about three additions:
Duet for Theremin & Lap Steel with Matthew Cummings
In addition to their Thursday night performance at The Standard and early morning set during 12-Hour Drone: All Night Flight, Duet for Theremin & Lap Steel will collaborate with Matthew Cummings, owner and glass blower of Pretentious Glass and Beer Companies, for an evening of live glass blowing and improvised music. Frank Schultz (lap steel) and Scott Burland (theremin) create an experimental sound unlike any other, while Cummings pushes the boundaries of physics through his gorgeous glassware. Join us Thursday, March 23 at Pretentious Glass Studio to witness this heavenly blend of sound and sculpture.
Nief Norf performs Steve Reich's Quartet
Knoxville-based experimental collective Nief Norf will perform twice at Big Ears: a live score collaboration with New York-based orchestra Wordless Music to a screening of documentary Brimstone & Glory, and a newly-announced performance of Steve Reich's piece, Quartet. Nief Norf will pay homage to the pioneering minimalist composer on Sunday, March 25 at the Tennessee Theatre, including Russ Hartenberger -- an original member of Steve Reich & Musicians going back to the early '70s.
Gene Smith's Sink: A Literary Event by Author Sam Stephenson feat. Big Ears Special Guest Performers & Film by Jem Cohen
Author and documentarian Sam Stephenson will present a literary event inspired by the beguiling legacy of pioneering American photographer W. Eugene Smith. Regarded as the father of the photo-essay genre, Smith captured everything from World War II to New York’s underground jazz scene. Linked to his new book, Gene Smith's Sink, this expansive event on Friday, March 23 at The Square Room will feature readings by Stephenson; a screening of Chuck-will’s-widow, a short film by Jem Cohen; and music by composers such as Thelonious Monk, Hall Overton, and Sonny Clark.

Dates for the three events added below (subject to change)... I can't miss Jon Gibson, so I'm out for the Glass Studio event (but that sounds really cool)..

Gonna make that happen. Gotta check my schedule but Saturday was a slow day for me anyways.
Thanks, guys.
I thought about making sure to remind you that there will likely be a less than receptive countergroup there, but I remember you live in VA. Comes with the territory.

I’ll start budgeting for it now. I’ll also need y’all’s numbers for my one phone call.

Seriously though, I’ll bring bail money.
Nah. It won't be that kind of thing. There's just always a group there to counter any kind of non-conservative cause. They generally just run their mouths a bunch.
Also: ironically enough, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been arrested in Tennessee.
More details or it didn't happen.
The big one was when I spent a night in the Unicoi County jail because one of the friends I was with was in possession. I look way more like a hesher than he does (and he would have lost his job) so I took the fall. I missed Broken Social Scene that night. I still haven’t forgiven him for that one.

Still bringing bail money just in case. I have a rather large mouth.

Nice that they're using Visit Knoxville. A local radio station has a live show there most days. If anything interests you, I would suggest going for it. It's a super small venue.
I need some recommendations on the stuff happening at the Pilot Light. I'm completely unfamiliar with all of the names being listed...
Advance Base is fka Casiotone For The Painfully Alone if you remember them. Nest Egg is Asheville’s weirdest. Past that, I’m lost. I’ll hook up some links when I get home.
