the secret shows at the pilot light are gonna be real nice, too.
Friendly reminder to all that the Pilot Light's capacity is about 100, so if they send out a notification about a secret show you wanna see, you better haul ass there.

Me on my way to that Efrim Menuck solo show.
That'd be awesome, but it doesn't look like there are any secret shows on Thursday... and as you noted earlier, GY!BE is going to be in NC on Friday
Is anyone else planning to do the Satellite Orchestra? If you are, let’s coordinate.
I was thinking on it, but, regardless of it being for a good reason, the preregistration is tough for me.
Totally understandable. I have a few gaps in my schedule (simply from being a dick about not splitting sets) and am looking to try and fill those in. I figure what better way than to hang out with friends, drink beer, and make noise. It’s kinda like being at home but with Kid Koala.

There are a few shows on Saturday that I haven’t settled on. I’ll do some more listening this week, but I imagine some of it will just come down to what I’d like to hear at that time. If I’m missing something that I absolutely *must* hear, based on the above, please do let me know. I don’t know as many of the artists playing this year as I have in the past, but the ones I do know are stellar.

Today's friendly reminder is that TDOT is doing work on the weekends on a bridge on I-40 which is causing multiple lanes to be closed. As you might imagine, I-40 becomes a parking lot west of downtown during the weekend. It starts Friday evenings and runs until early am on Mondays, so it should not effect people coming into town and most people leaving. If your commute to and from downtown puts you on I-40, it'd probably be a good idea to check the GPS before you get on the road.

Has anyone here, who authenticated to the Big Ears schedule with Facebook, successfully import their schedule into the iOS app? This has never, ever worked for me... and 2018 is no exception. Removed and reinstalled the app this morning... no luck.

Good heads up. I’m already searching for alternate routes since they posted that earlier. Probably not the best year to have stayed outside of downtown.

It really depends on which direction out of downtown. Unless you're west (like me), the effect will probably be negligible.

"Spring snowstorms across the Northeast have thrown some of us a curve ball, leading to some cancelled and delayed flights. We’re all systems GO! for the Big Ears weekend but we do have a couple of schedule changes on Thursday night -- and two unfortunate cancellations to tell you about.
Sadly, Thursday's Nels Cline's Lovers with the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra at the Tennessee Theatre has to be cancelled. It has proven impossible to get key players to town in time for the rehearsals needed for the show, and it is also impossible to reschedule the concert for later in the weekend. Nels Cline, Yuka C. Honda, and Jenny Scheinman are still coming to Big Ears, however, and will perform all of their other scheduled shows: Mischief & Mayhem, Kannapolis, Eucademix, as part of Rova’s Electric Ascension…and there’s been a hint of a surprise or two in the mix as well. We do hope to have the opportunity to present Lovers at a future edition of Big Ears.
Kid Koala has also been delayed, and the Thursday night performance of Kid Koala's Satellite Turntable Orchestra performance has also been cancelled, but never fear: you will have five other opportunities at Big Ears to join in the collaborative shows at The Square Room. Kid Koala will also still perform one of his stellar DJ set late Thursday evening.
As a result, we plan to move Meshell Ndegeocello’s performance to 7:30pm at the Tennessee Theatre, followed by Marc Ribot & David Hidalgo, who will perform a bit earlier than originally planned, at 9:00pm.
We look forward to seeing everyone in 24 hours or so! We don't anticipate any further issues, but we encourage you to stay tuned to Big Ears socials as well as the 2018 app for the most up-to-date news. We've tweaked Thursday's schedule a bit, so take a look and get ready for an unforgettable Big Ears weekend. If you haven't secured tickets yet, act now! Thursday Premier passes are SOLD OUT…"
I thought I’d end the festival with Craig Taborn, as I’ve heard nothing but brilliant things about him. However, I’ve been listening to Lightning Bolt all week (for the first time, really), and it seems like that’s really one of the better decisions I could make this year.

Seriously. I’ve been seeing Lightning Bolt for years and years and each time was more life affirming than the last. You will not be disappointed.
Here’s a short clip from Hassle Fest a few years ago. I don’t think Big Ears will look much like this scene though.

Ha, “life affirming” wasn’t what I was expecting, but I can definitely see that. There’s a performance of “Dead Cowboy” I watched the other day on YouTube that is absolutely ridiculous.
