For the late night shows do you have to leave during the headliner set to get a decent spot?
Depends on venue. I showed up 30 min after doors for the Arkells late night this year, and was the 3rd person in. Maybe 70 people total showed. Was an absolute Motown blast!
That show at Vinyl was great. I feel like there was definitely less than 70 people though. Felt like 20-30 to me haha.
Had a nightmare yesterday where the lineup had a top 3 lines of: QOTSA, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Stone Temple Pilots, Foster the People, Manchester Orchestra, AWOLNATION, The Struts, Groupon, Cage the Elephant and Young the Giant.
What I mainly meant in my head when I characterized Tame Impala as “new” is that Tame Impala had only really had two full albums out (plus the EPs) at the time although they definitely were releasing singles from Currents.
I also meant that in the context of other Shaky headliners they are “newer” like Alabama Shakes or Florence and the Machine were as far as bands that have been around 10 years or less and as headliner types are probably newer to that domain as a result.
By contrast Janes Addiction, My Morning Jacket, Modest Mouse, Phoenix, Avett Bros, The National and even LCD and the XX have been around for longer.
They played in 2016 at SK but it’d be cool if we snagged Black Angels, Slowdive and Parquet Courts from the Levitation lineup along with as somebody mentioned earlier The Bryan Jonestown Massacre and Panda Bear.

Well you won't have to worry about Cage the Elephant. Your nightmare forgot they were there last year. And Groupon The coupon service? That'd be interesting. Grouplove could be there though.

Yikes. Would 100% sell my ticket, not one second thought, if that was the lineup. That would def be a worse case scenario for me. I don't think I'd go to that if I was given a free ticket. Yeah, hoping we get some crossover from Levitation.
So...are we a week away from the lineup announcement? Does anyone know? Last year the lineup came out on the 10th. So...1/9?
The other announcements were a bit delayed this year, i.e. dates/venue. Really hoping that’s not the case with the lineup announcement. Tired of not knowing
The War on Drugs Perfume Genius LEON Fleet Foxes First Aid Kit Declan McKenna King Krule Oh Sees
We'll probably get most or all of these, we usually share about 7-9 acts from Coachella
Helado Negro please and thank you.
Also Big Thief, Boogarins, Alvvays, Django Django, Bedouin, Cherry Glazerr, Priests, The Drums, Japanese Breakfast, Snail Mail, and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever.

Listened to Helado Negro and liked it, and I must have missed Alvvays

Those delays had to do with finding a venue I imagine. I don’t know why it would change the lineup announcement.
Coachella crossover hopes/potentials: Alt-J Alvvays Borns Declan McKenna Fleet Foxes (ofc) Magic Giant Perfume Genius Sir Sly St. Vincent The Drums The Neighbourhood (not sure how likely...) The War on Drugs Vance Joy

Last year on the 3rd they sent an email saying the lineup would be announced on the 10th. Wonder if it'll be the same? Surely we'll be getting an email soon. I'm getting so impatient. Lol.

Gov Ball's lineup's out. Super weak. I'm sorry but I'm really hoping one of our headliners isn't YYY's because they probably would get a headlining spot at SK and I really don't want that. Don't want Jack White either though. Was hoping Vampire Weekend would pop up somewhere so we'd know they're touring this year. Still early though. Also just hoping that there are more surprise names that pop up in other lineups, because I'm just not too excited with the possible names SK could get from Coachella or Gov Ball.
Yikes. That coachella lineup, while having some gems, is very meh overall.
Yeah, it's pretty terrible imo. There's probably less than 10 acts on that whole lineup that I'd be really interested in seeing. So glad to have a niche indie/alt rock fest like SK, because mainstream fest lineups have become absolute trash in the last few years.
Wow; there just seems to be this movement towards pop headlining festivals lately with less and less love for guitar bands; I guess whatever sells tickets but I’d be kinda devastated if that was my Coachella. Eminem is great so that’s always cool with me and to some degree expected (I saw him and Arcade Fire headline 2011 Bonnaroo but better balance of rap and rock at top) but then Weekend and Beyoncé on top of that? Bummer for Coachella attendees that is what you’ll see as top bill. Selfishly at least I’m not missing a Radiohead or even the legend spot for a Paul McCartney type but telling statement I guess about genre and music in 2018. (“I’m going to the desert to see...Beyoncé and the Weekend??!!”) It’s really too bad there isn’t the word “Vampire” before Weekend and I’m kinda surprised; possibly a sign that they aren’t ready to tour first half of this year with new album and such so maybe not a good idea to get hopes up that they make Shaky either. Hope to be wrong. Would say the same for the Arctic Monkeys as far as bands rumored to tour with new albums hi.
From Governors would hope to see Dirty Projectors, Japandroids and Chvrches, Alvvays and Wolf Alice and I’d be okay with 3 Yeahs but would prefer they don’t headline. I suspect we’ll get either Jack White or YYYs at SK though. Jack White is so great live only strike for me is that he did headline a Midtown in Atlanta a few years back.
From Coachella it’d be a score if we get besides Fleet Foxes: David Byrne, King Krule, Oh Sees, Priests, LEON
The War on Drugs and Perfume genius would be great too but they did play in Atlanta late 2017 so hopefully that doesn’t rule them out.
Björk Fleet Foxes Jack White top 3 would make me happy.
Fleet Foxes are much lower on Coachella's lineup than I expected, I really think they could be perfect as a preheadliner at sunset on the main stage in the CTE spot. Really just hoping we get them AND something like Jack, QOTSA, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, or maybe AM or Vampire Weekend if we're really lucky. That being said I won't be surprised at all to see them headline though and I'll definitely be happy they're there regardless.

Yeah, Coachella's lineup is hilariously bad. I'm not really a fan of YYY or Jack White so I'm really hoping against both. Especially since we know we're probably gonna get QOTSA and I'm not a huge fan of them either. I don't want AM either though, so it might just not be my year if those are the headliners and I'll have to see how the undercard looks to see if I skip or not. Was really hoping Vampire Weekend was on the Coachella lineup too. I think you're right that it would make them less likely for SK. Vampire Weekend or Arcade Fire, or to a lesser extent the National, is what I'm hoping for the third headliner (assuming FF and QOTSA headline) but I know it probably won't happen. Still gonna hope though.
I think there were some artists last year that had been in Atlanta recently the year before, so I don't think it automatically rules someone out.
Really interesting year so far with the lineups that have dropped. More huge names everywhere. GovBall and supposedly Boston Calling sharing a Coachella headliner and Bonnaroo #1 is pretty crazy for better or for worse.
I don't think our #1 will be any smaller than Jack White.
