Fleet Foxes are much lower on Coachella's lineup than I expected, I really think they could be perfect as a preheadliner at sunset on the main stage in the CTE spot. Really just hoping we get them AND something like Jack, QOTSA, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, or maybe AM or Vampire Weekend if we're really lucky. That being said I won't be surprised at all to see them headline though and I'll definitely be happy they're there regardless.
Yeah, I don't know, I still think they're someone that SK would make a headliner that might not be a headliner at other fests. Maybe I'm just being hopeful. I'm gonna be seriously bummed if it's JW, QOTSA, and YYY's and FF gets bumped to the second line. I'm sure other people would be thrilled, but I'm just not excited about any of those other three names. Fingers crossed for VW but trying not to get hopes up since they're on no lineups so far.
Really interesting year so far with the lineups that have dropped. More huge names everywhere. GovBall and supposedly Boston Calling sharing a Coachella headliner and Bonnaroo #1 is pretty crazy for better or for worse.
I don't think our #1 will be any smaller than Jack White.
Yeah, lot of shared names. I could see us getting JW. Beale Street Music fest posted something about Jack White on facebook so he'll probably be there. That's on the same weekend but he could do both. I don't want it to happen, but it might happen. I do think that SK will have someone bigger than QOTSA as a headliner.

I just feel like a Fleet Foxes set at sunset would be amazing honestly. Like I said though, I'm really just glad they're playing.
On another note it's super surprising that you enjoy Shaky Knees and don't like any of JW, QOTSA, YYY, or AM. Those are all picture perfect headliners for this fest.

Yeah, those just happen to be artists I'm not really crazy about. I don't actively dislike them or anything. They're fine. I casually listen to them. I used to be more into Jack White and QOTSA than I am now, but just not artists I'd really say I love or would be super excited about headlining, especially if I'm not into the undercard. Never really liked the YYY's for some reason and I lost interest with AM's last album completely, but I was never huge on them either. Last year's headliners were all some of my all time favorites, so I don't really expect that to happen that perfectly again. 2015 were also some of my absolute favs...
But you're right, those would be perfect for the fest. I know I'm in the minority. Just not really any of my favorites and I'm hoping there will be at least two headliners I love. Fleet Foxes are a favorite of mine, so if I'm lukewarm on the others I'm hoping they at least headline. I'm happy they're playing regardless too and a set at sunset would be amazing, but I'd be disappointed with them not getting a full headlining set if I don't really love the headliners.
I’m with you King Gizzard fan on not wanting YYYs or QOTSA or AMonks to headline either. I swear I went to that Midtown in Atlanta a few years ago.
Yeah I think that’s the worst Coachella ever. Woulda been kinda cool to do St Vincent and David Byrne same day but that didn’t happen either.
You're right. YYY's, QOTSA, and AM were all at MM in '13. I understand YYY's headlining at Gov Ball, being a hometown fest, but idk if there's really enough excitement for them to warrant a headlining spot here, maybe I'm wrong. Also that would probably make QOTSA the biggest name there and I just don't know if that would be a really strong draw with YYY - QOTSA - FF? Idk.
I'm just hoping we get an email tomorrow saying when they're going to release the lineup. I hope it's still coming next week and not any later.
Jack White / QOTSA / Vampire Weekend Fleet Foxes/Chvrches/Tenacious D/David Byrne MGMT/Grimes/The War On Drugs/Franz Ferdinand Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile/Broken Social Scene King Krule/Deerhunter/Death from Above/Iceage Alvvays/Perfume Genius/Parquet Courts/The Voidz Oh Sees/Big Thief/Protomartyr/Japanese Breakfast
Fleet Foxes is 11th at Boston Calling. They were 7th for their day at Coachella. Thinking they won't be a headliner here.
Never really understood the headliner buzz around them. They're solid, but if you're trying to draw 30-40 thousand people to a festival, you're gonna need someone with a bit of a higher profile.

This would be great. Having VW would definitely make me get over having QOTSA and JW as the other headliners and not having FF as a headliner. Would also really love some of those names on the undercard.
I think one of either Muse or Jack (or both but only if Shaky was making an effort to expand) is a lock.
I hope not. I think that Muse and Jack White stray a little too far into the mainstream rock-sphere to be headliners at SK. SK headliners have mostly always leaned towards more indie-beloveds. JW might fit ok, but I don't see Muse working. Maybe I'm wrong and just projecting on what I want Shaky to be though.

So it appears that the Boston Calling lineup was leaked last night. Hoping that SK can get some of those acts, really solid lineup outside of the headliners (meh) It got me thinking: do these festival organizers know rival festival lineups beforehand or do they get surprised by lineup drops like the rest of us?
Jeff Rosenstock looks like he could be there with new dates that end in Pittsburgh on May 2nd and no Atlanta show.
Jeff Rosenstock - esque bands are what keeps Shaky Knees on my radar year after year (have yet to make the trip though; maybe this will be the year!). I think that's a healthy observation, but it is worth mentioning that he's based out of the Philly/NYC areas so it's possible his tour ends in Pittsburgh because it brings him back home.

It's my understanding that no single entity outside of the festival itself is going to know the entire festival's lineup, from top to bottom, but there is enough reason to expect that a lot of these fests have knowledge regarding who will be playing elsewhere. Part of this comes up in the conversations with the booking agencies regarding proximity clauses, tour routes, billing order, how much to be paid, etc. Part of this is just industry knowledge (such as when Coachella's headliners were leaked). There are individuals on this board who know lineups before they drop because they are in the industry.

yeah those Coachella, Gov Ball, and Boston Calling lineups are super weak. BC is the best out of them, but I can't believe in 2018 Eminem is getting multiple fest headliner slots. I'm surprised Gov Ball is as weak as it is. I love Fleet Foxes but I never figured them as a headliner so I'm glad it looks like they won't be. any combo of QOTSA/JW/National/YYYs/Arcade Fire is not enough to make me wanna go. I'd need Tame, AM, VW, or someone similar in quality that hasn't been thought of to make me go. but honestly I hope none of them are there so I can save my money this year lol
Wow; there just seems to be this movement towards pop headlining festivals lately with less and less love for guitar bands; I guess whatever sells tickets but I’d be kinda devastated if that was my Coachella. Eminem is great so that’s always cool with me and to some degree expected (I saw him and Arcade Fire headline 2011 Bonnaroo but better balance of rap and rock at top) but then Weekend and Beyoncé on top of that? Bummer for Coachella attendees that is what you’ll see as top bill. Selfishly at least I’m not missing a Radiohead or even the legend spot for a Paul McCartney type but telling statement I guess about genre and music in 2018. (“I’m going to the desert to see...Beyoncé and the Weekend??!!”) It’s really too bad there isn’t the word “Vampire” before Weekend and I’m kinda surprised; possibly a sign that they aren’t ready to tour first half of this year with new album and such so maybe not a good idea to get hopes up that they make Shaky either. Hope to be wrong. Would say the same for the Arctic Monkeys as far as bands rumored to tour with new albums hi.
From Governors would hope to see Dirty Projectors, Japandroids and Chvrches, Alvvays and Wolf Alice and I’d be okay with 3 Yeahs but would prefer they don’t headline. I suspect we’ll get either Jack White or YYYs at SK though. Jack White is so great live only strike for me is that he did headline a Midtown in Atlanta a few years back.
From Coachella it’d be a score if we get besides Fleet Foxes: David Byrne, King Krule, Oh Sees, Priests, LEON
The War on Drugs and Perfume genius would be great too but they did play in Atlanta late 2017 so hopefully that doesn’t rule them out.
Björk Fleet Foxes Jack White top 3 would make me happy.
Yeah, Coachella's lineup is hilariously bad. I'm not really a fan of YYY or Jack White so I'm really hoping against both. Especially since we know we're probably gonna get QOTSA and I'm not a huge fan of them either. I don't want AM either though, so it might just not be my year if those are the headliners and I'll have to see how the undercard looks to see if I skip or not. Was really hoping Vampire Weekend was on the Coachella lineup too. I think you're right that it would make them less likely for SK. Vampire Weekend or Arcade Fire, or to a lesser extent the National, is what I'm hoping for the third headliner (assuming FF and QOTSA headline) but I know it probably won't happen. Still gonna hope though.
I think there were some artists last year that had been in Atlanta recently the year before, so I don't think it automatically rules someone out.
Hilariously bad? How can a lineup with a deep undercard like that be bad?
It's not. He said yesterday there were less than 10 acts he'd be interested in seeing. That's sort of preposterous unless you only know 10-15 on there, and I'm thinking he knows more that that. It's probably just an overstatement. Everyone who has a beef calls some shit garbage or trash or shit or whatever on here. Sometimes people are right, this time the poster was not. People can trash me for hating pop and dance pop all day long. And I have zero interest in seeing The Weeknd and almost none in seeing Beyoncé. But I can get past that and see some of the great stuff they have on this lineup.
For real, people have been shitting on the Coachella lineup but I count 50 acts on there that I'd like to see. And like 20 that I think can, and should, crossover to the Shaky Knees lineup.

Ok, hilariously bad is probably an overstatement. The headliners are definitely not my taste at all, but I really don't think the undercard is that fantastic either imo. There's some decent stuff though. To be fair, I found more I'd missed once I actually went through each name and counted and there are probably about ~30 acts that I'd want to see. But only a few of those I'd be really excited about. And a lot of the subheadliners/bigger names are super weak. Decent sprinkling of smaller names though. I'm not really a fan of radio pop, R&B and hip hop though. Hope Shaky grabs some names on here, but I also hope they get some surprises too that haven't showed up on multiple lineups yet.
Remember in 2015 Tame Impala (my personal favorite Shaky) was like 7th or 8th on bill and Ryan Adams maybe third and they headlined so I’m hoping our curators can pull that for Fleet Foxes as a headliner for SK 2018. So I’d keep hope alive that maybe we get a repeat on that front with this scenario. Esteban gotta shout out the Saints symbol; Whodat NFC South champs 👍
To each their own and I have respect for everybody’s passion for music for sure but I see this as the even a broken clock is right twice a day lineup for Coachella. That said; of course a lineup as vast as something like Coachella or Bonnaroo will have some great stuff. But it’s Coachelka; supposed to be a big dawg in the U.S. festival industry. To me this isn’t any better than a Hangout Fesr lineup. I love music so I could spend a day in the sun content to watch St. Vincent, The War on Drugs, Perfume Genius, LEON and others Friday assuming they weren’t put on at the same time as each other but what the hell with Jamiroquai so high up the bill? And this on a day with The Weeknd?! I’d rather just have a Mike Jackson hologram! I mean I’m not going and I’d find something interesting to watch during Jamiroquai anyways but personally I see that as a pretty weak Friday at the top of the card. Opening night too.
And then Beyoncé and Haim are there to save Saturday night? And Haim (that’s fine at 4:45 and I know they are big but) over David Byrne on the bill? I mean put a little respect on the man’s name damn Coachella! With Beyoncé I’d be hoping she’d turn up preggers again and Tame Impala swoops in to save the day if I had a ticket. And to me Saturday is the deepest and possibly best day because you could watch Hundred Waters, Big Thief, Mild High Club (surprise appearance by KGATLWizard!) Priests, Oh Sees, Alvvays and others at least early in the day. But I’m not sure I’d leave exhausted from exuberance.
Sunday is a pretty good festival day if you saw Eminem, A Perfect Circle (Tool of course would be preferable at Coach) King Krule, Portugal, Drums, Fidlar, Japanese Breakfast and others.
Would be absolutely ecstatic to have these guys as our token Canadian indie band. Been listening to them for years, but they almost never come to the US.

Years and years ago I was really into these two songs of theirs:

They have so many good songs. I don't think they've ever even put out a filler song. They're ridiculously good, sucks they never got any traction anywhere.
