i really think if you replace Halsey with someone worthy of being a HLer this lineup looks 10 times better. if this had last years price tag it would be totally worth it. lots of dope acts on this lineup and i could easily get a full weekend out of this.
If i were going
Arcade Fire At least one Bassnectar set Leon Bridges Flaming Lips Slightly Stoopid Tipper STS9 Local Natives Blackbear Tycho Lettuce Jai Wolf The Districts

this blows away Hangout IMO
Well yeah, most festivals would look better if you replaced a shitty artist in the top 4 with someone better.
That's ridiculous even if you want to hate to be hating. Lay it out and defend your position.
Shit I'd see at Hangout (and how much 1 not much 5 for sure)
The Killers - 2 *
Portugal. The Man - 4 *
Pussy Riot - 2.5
Ron Gallo - 3 *
The Green - 2.5 *
Anderson.Paak & TFN - 3.5 *

Noname - 3
Skip Marley - 2.5

Greta Van Fleet 2
Slightly Stoopid - 3 *
Shit I'd see at Okeechobee
Arcade Fire - 4.5 *
Bassnectar - 3.5 *
Travis Scott - 2 * (but I've seen him twice and would only be there for the chaos)
The Flaming Lips - 3 *
Slightly Stoopid - 3 *
Tipper - 5 * (will see 2 of the 4 shows first week of January)
Big Gigantic - 3 *
STS9 - 5 *

(* Have seen are will see this year)
No dice. If you like pop acts, Hangout is the king. Most of the acts I like at Hangout I've already seen, and there aren't many I'd want to see. I could further list shit you couldn't pay me to see and Hangout would be ahead by miles over Okeechobee. Okeechobee, however, I've seen the majority of the lineup already. Even stuff I didn't name as wants (Jai Wolf, Leon Bridges, Zed's Dead, Local Natives) is generally better. Then again, they have the spit drinking of Too Many Zoos.
I'm on board with the idea that the Okeechobee lineup is more well-rounded, but for me personally, there's a couple more things at Hangout - .Paak, Manchester Orchestra, Kendrick, and St. Vincent - that I would be legit excited about even if the rest is trash. Okeechobee has 1.5 acts I'm passionate about - Arcade Fire and Theivery Corporation. There's basically 4 headline acts that I would actively avoid seeing. I've gone the past two years and have done my best to avoid the Nectar if at all possible cause it's just not my thing. Now they're basically doubling down on it. If I'm dropping a grand (at least) on going to one of these things with my partner, I should have more than a couple of things I'm excited to see. It's hard to justify the gruel of a camping festival for 4 days + price if I'm not passionate about the acts. It's a shame because I really had high hopes for what this thing could be.
TL;DR: I'd rather have a handful of stuff I REALLY like in a lineup, even if the rest sucks, than a whole bunch of stuff that I'm lukewarm on. Also I don't know as much about music as you guys.
That was a super fair response to be honest. And I understand. I love Thievery as well, and I love Sound Tribe and Tycho. So I'm a bit biased that way along with all the funk and jam they have at the bottom. Hangout to me is a non-starter though there are a couple of acts each day I like except I've seen or will have seen them all. Okee I'd do, and I'd go this year if I didn't live 12 hours away. But I agree with the idea of not being worth $1,000, 5 or 6 days of investment (considering a day's worth of travel and probably 4-5 hours to get in).
I am admittedly different in that I have been doing this longer than many, have a wider genre spectrum than most, and go to SO MUCH LIVE MUSIC and SO MANY FESTIVALS in general. I stage hop way more than most to try out all the new experiences I can, and learn who to catch at individual shows. But I still don't quite get what it takes to please some of you:-)
There is so much goodness on this lineup. Sure you have seen a ton of it before, but of the few acts you haven't seen what are the odds a single festival will capture many of them? There is not one single act on here I am excited about that I haven't seen before already, and I still love it.
Arcade Fire doesn't do much for me personally, but they have some outstanding songs and moments live ('Wake up'!). Seen Bassnectar a bazillion times, some middle of the road but many outstanding (and always an excellent glow stick war). Halsey was surprisingly good at Bonnaroo, outstanding stage presence (and cool Fleetwood Mac cover with Tycho). Flaming Lips in that environment will be the greatest thing ever (NOTHING beats 'Do you realize??" live, top 3 greatest song ever written!). Foster the People rule, new album is so good ('Doing it for the money'!, 'Sid and Nancy'). Thievery and their 9 million band members. Jai Wolf's ridiculous 'Indian Summer' live again. Quinn XCII was outstanding hip hop, had never heard of him before catching his Firefly set. Clozee. So many more. Even pre-research there are a bunch of good acts in the small print. Can't wait to discover more favorites, just like last year.
Different than catching individual bands and concerts, a festival is about the whole experience. The more new ones I do, the more it is all about the environment and crowd it attracts. And even within that crowd, you personally will influence those around you more than most realize. It isn't just about the bands on the lineup anymore. Where else can you get not just the normal stages...but also a beach stage, jungle stage, and a fire stage? Plus a couple of random art stages, areas, and attractions? Hanging out all these different places is magical. Chilling on the beach, in the sun, snuggled in my beach vagina (wind hammock), drinking my own high quality ipa's out of a cooler was bliss. Not 24 hours anymore, but the night goes as late as you actually need. This venue is simply outstanding.
Bonnaroo still always has the best overall musical performances. Electric Forest has the unparalleled Sherwood Forest experience. Coachella always has the best overall lineup. Hangout always has the beach, gorgeous vibe. Firefly has wonderful performances too, a nice focus on alt with fun electronic and decent hip hop thrown in (plus a brewery). We have more choice than ever before, something for everyone. Music just keeps getting better and better. Will finally catch EDC Vegas this year with the date move, and Hullaween after some trusted reviews. Still need to add Burning Man, Shambhalla, Tomorrowland, and so many other international festivals...but they will all come in time. If you only like one thing, then certainly go for that. But if you are doing a handful of festivals, I strongly recommend Okeechobee be on that list. Especially so early in the year.
This was the first time in history I ever purchased a pass to a camping festival pre-lineup drop. But the experience of the Portal was so good the first 2 years I went for the pre-sale. No regrats, Okeechobee is going to be another fantastic time. See you there?
I just really don't understand the people that are saying "quit complaining about Bassnectar". Like if my favorite artist was booked to headline a multi-genre music festival three years in a row, I personally might not be upset but I'd understand other people's complaints and acknowledge that it's lazy booking.

I love the location/set up for this. Aquachobee and Chobee Village (or whatever it's called) is really cool. If I lived in Florida I would go again. But there wasn't enough on this to make another road trip down, not to mention the price almost doubling.

Laugh if you gotta. But it nukes the fuck out of it. Hangout, despite your desire that it's the greatest festival in the history of greatest festivals, is fucking high school. Okee isn't much beyond that and is geared to about the same age demographic. But give me electrohippies all day over Frat Boys and Sorority Queens.
It's Jersey Shore vs. Freaks and Geeks or maybe Full House vs. The Partridge Family.

okay
b/c that list is better then:
Kendrick Lamar
Zedd
Anderson Paak
Portugal The Man
Slightly Stoopid
Galantis
Pussy Riot St. Vincent
Blackbear
Odesza
Manchester Orc
Getter
Tash Saltana
Be fucking serious. I already did that shit 2 pages back (in a fair way). Nowhere on there did I list Galantis as some shit I wanted to see. Also, Slightly Stoopid is on both lineups. Zedd is for 15 year old girls. C'mon man.
