I think 2018 is gonna be a really strong festival season. The lineups that have been released already have each been much better than their 2017 lineup. The South American Lolla's look amazing, and All Points East is one of the best Alt rock lineups I have seen in a while

Seriously...I would love any of the 9 of the top names from All Points East announcement today (LCD, Phoenix, YYY, The xx, Lorde, Sampha, Bjork, Beck, FJM) at Firefly. If they screw up the lineup this year with all the acts out there I'd be done with this fest probably.

I don't know what the price tag is for U2 compared to Macca but it seems pretty unlikely. You'd have to have that huge drop off in the rest of the lineup like you did in 2015 anyway.
Edit- they are playing D.C. and Philly wrapped around the Fri/Sat dates for Firefly. Even if the date is open I think that pretty much eliminates them.
These are the dates. It’s possible but Don’t think they hit fFirefly after hitting all these surrounding cities. Though The Weeknd kind of did it last year.
JUNE 13 PHILADELPHIA, PA WELLS FARGO CENTER JUNE 17 WASHINGTON, DC CAPITAL ONE ARENA JUNE 21 BOSTON, MA TD GARDEN JUNE 25 NEW YORK, NY MADISON SQUARE GARDEN JUNE 29 NEWARK, NJ PRUDENTIAL CENTER
Macca did the exact same thing (played surrounding cities same week as Firefly). I think it more counts them in than out. Only difference is Macca was announced for Firefly BEFORE his nearby tour dates dropped.

It makes no sense for them to leave Thursday-Saturday (the best days for ticket sales) open when only going from Philly to DC

days off for production set up maybe? seems all their dates have gaps in between

Its a big production. But DC being Sunday makes more sense for the production to need time to set up on Saturday after playing Firefly, friday. Cant believe im talking myself into this cause im surely going to get disappointed when it doesnt happen, but I actually think this is super likely

i'm not even a u2 fan, but this excites me. hope we're not disappointed ..
also looks like they're starting the fan curated surveys up again

seems like every year they have a HL that is playing throughout the surrounding area.

That Friday the 15th date sandwiched in between Philly/DC just screams U2. Also fits the mold of always getting Bonnaroo's sloppy seconds. The tour dates also leave them open Hangout Weekend and headed east so maybe AEG snagged them for 2 show deal.
Saw U2 on the Joshua Tree tour in NY this summer and it was fantastic. I'd love this even if it did eat up the budget a bit. Only negative is that it would totally eliminate Pearl Jam and Radiohead.
