I think if they book Pearl Jam people will just go. Pearl Jam has been begged for since day 1 if they get them, it could be like 2015 were they go top heavy because they don't need to worry too much about tickets moving.

Has Goldenvoice ever booked Pearl Jam for one of their festivals? I know earlier this year their management was fighting with AEG over the right to that arena in Seattle. Got pretty nasty too.

Yup. They promoted the concert on the Coachella grounds 24 years ago. Goldenvoice was not even owned by AEG back then.
The fact that Pearl Jam hasnt been back since adds some credence to the Pearl Jam hates AEG theory.
No idea. But just earlier this year their management was fighting with them for that arena; and it did get nasty with them bringing up the whole "AEG is anti gay" BS to try and win the bid.
At the end of the day it is all business though. Who knows.

I mean its not really BS. Same way the Chick Fil A thing isnt really BS. But they put on really good festivals, and Chick Fil A serves really good sandwiches, which wins out at least for me
It's going to be an interesting year for sure. It seems like a lot of alternative acts aren't selling out - Arcade Fire's tour was embarrassing. True headliners are scarce and there's a TON of completion now. I would think that a 30% drop from '16 would motivate FF to get some really high profile headliners... And that means someone legendary.

True Headliners arent that scarce. They just arent 100% rock anymore. Kendrick Lamar would be a True Headliner as would Jay-Z, Drake, Kanye; none of which have headlined and only 1 has ever been to Firefly before. Beyonce would be a true headliner too, as would Lady Gaga or Bruno Mars.
However for Rock, I think we might be underestimating the chance that Radiohead plays in 2018

i was gonna like this until that last sentence. you know damn well there is a 0% chance Radiohead plays this.

Yea Radiohead seems pretty far fetched. When does Hangout's lineup usually come out? We'll know at least one headliner and a good portion of the undercard then.

hangout dropped November 28th last year and we knew about Mumford and TOP ahead of time
Pearl Jam - Gorillaz - Tame Impala Kygo - The XX - Odesza - Alt-J - Pretty Lights Run The Jewels - Cage The Elephant - Griz Portugal. The Man - Zhu - The War On Drugs Nick Murphy - Milky Chance - Action Bronson
The Radiohead idea is along the lines that if Goldenvoice decides they need a knockout as a top Rock/Alt headliner there arent a ton of options that will be touring next year for sure, and wouldnt be a repeat. U2 (but thats not happening), Pearl Jam, Radiohead, GnR (?). I dont think Gorillaz would count, Im not sure even Billy Joel would count as a massive sell.

Billy Joel would count as a massive Northeast festival like Firefly. Same goes for Springsteen. I could also see Firefly being the festival to book a random/questionable big time legacy act like Aerosmith.

Springsteen isnt leaving Broadway for a while, and when he does it will be to rest. Only reason I was unsure for Billy is that he plays every other month at MSG. Easy for most of the Firefly audience to go see him.

I brought up The Who a few weeks ago, what's everyone's thoughts there? It'd be a little "out of left field" but if Springsteen/Billy Joel/Pear Jam aren't available that doesn't leave many other top tier options. Metallica maybe?

The Who fits Firefly perfectly and better than Metallica in my opinion. The Who are just pure classic rock and people would eat it up. Always thought that no matter how good they are, Metallica and Nine Inch Nails are a bit to hard rock to headline Firefly.
I think Arcade Fire is close to a lock to play this. Probably helped by the fact that there price tag may have come down a bit after pretty underwhelming tour sales.

Arcade Fire always does well in the fan polls, so that can only be a good thing. Arcade Fire would be the perfect 3rd headliner.

Part of me just wishes they would go back to a simple and strong 3 headliners template.
Pearl Jam/TheWho/FleetwoodMac ~ KendrickLamar/Kanye ~ Arcade Fire/GreenDay/TheStrokes
Just put whatever EDM/top40 thats needed to bring in the 2nd or 3rd line. No one would complain about that.
