Eminem and Kendrick Lamar on the top line tells me everything I need to know. This is not a rock oriented festival anymore. I really didn't think they would book both, which is why I was optimistic there may be some solid choices for the other headliners (granted AM is a good booking). There isn't anything wrong with the top line Firefly has, it just isn't what it should be. Never mind the undercard dropping off after like 5 lines. Look at lines 6-10 or whatever on the 2016 lineup and then look at this one. Seriously.

Bad morning to have wall to wall meetings.
I'm perfectly fine with this thing. 2 headliners I'm really excited for (KDot+AM) and two who I know I'm going to have a great time at. This thing is going to sell really well.
Outside of Jay-Z & Kanye, this lineup has probably the 3 most famous hip-hop artists of the last 15 years.

I would like to know how it's possible that Firefly has failed to book The War on Drugs and/or Kurt Vile in the last 6 years.. Kurt Vile lives 75 miles from this fest and he isn't doing shit that weekend. That lineup is missing about 30-40 artists though, which hopefully isn't just coffeehouse/hub acts.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb

I kinda disagree. Firefly was basically dreamed up as an Alt-Nation Festival. This lineup has like every Alt Nation act imaginable on it. They got 2 very Firefly-y headliners, Eminem is basically an automatic, and then they booked the best hip-hop artist in the world today. Hard to stay they're deviating too far from script.
I have to believe that the options were limited. They probably couldn't get Green Day or The Who or The Strokes. Not many left. I am sooo happy that they went for Kendrick instead of Imagine Dragons or RHCP.

We have been to several festivals: Roo, Coachella, Lolla, Hangout and others. Normally we do Roo but can't this year. We want to do a camping fest this year. So, how is this festival run? Good grounds, camping OK? Give me an overall opinion vs. Roo for camping and overall grounds. I am curious about how the crowd is, the facilities, the camping areas, etc... Not line-up artist related - All of the line-ups have good and bad to them. Let me know some feedback. thanks

Yea I mean the rest of the lineup looks mostly Firefly-ey true. But before last year with Chance, Outkast was the only rap/hip hop headliner artist in 5 years. It just seems strange to have 2 in one year, plus then 2 repeat rock acts (TRIPLE peat Killers lol).
I agree I'm glad they booked Kendrick over Imagine Dragons or RHCP, although I doubt RHCP was available.

Your camping experience depends on what type of camping you get. If you just go GA campgrounds then you have to walk over a bridge to get to and from the festival (bottlenecks at the end of the day). I recommend the premier camping where you arrive Wednesday and have a much shorter walk to the festival. The festival is well run although there’s not much to do outside of music. The crowds are fine for the most part. The festival is mostly college kids so it can get a bit “bro-y” but everyone I met was pretty nice. Food options kinda suck and are really expensive even compared to roo and Lolla.

I can compare Coachella and this:
Camping wise, I've never waited more than 5-10 minutes checking into camping for FF, the line at Coachella was about an hour. Camping grounds at FF aren't as nice as Coachella, grass is longer and rougher, I really like the nicely manicured camping ground grass at coachella. majority of the GA camping spots are a 15-20 minute walk to the front gates, coachella is about 10 minutes. if you go in during peak hours, there will be a line to get into the actual festival. Security depends on the person, I brought in a plastic flask of whiskey all 3 days to Coachella, but had one taken my first time through at ff. Actual size of the grounds is a pretty decent difference, coachella is very compact and ff is pretty spread out, it can take 20ish minutes to go from the stages that are the farthest apart. Crowd at ff is usually solid, depends on the show though, but if I had to sterotype, its mostly drunk college kids. I prefer the coachella crowd to the ff crowd. I like drinking beer while seeing shows, ff has a ton of beer stands throughout, coachella has the beer gardens, but that's personal preference. Facilities are similar, ff got those upgraded porta potties that look like mini bathrooms, and they have those pee trough things for guys which is nice. That's a giant run on sentence of my thoughts, feel free to pm me if you have more questions. I've gone to ff every year I've lived in philly.

I've done GA camping every year except last. It's perfectly fine. The 15-20 minute walk can be annoying on the way in especially if it's hot, and once you're in you really don't go back to your tent until the day is over.
The grounds are really nice which is what I think sets it apart from other festivals I've been to (Wayhome, Gov Ball, never Roo). There is so much room and like 7 stages all together. And at night the trees are all lit up and it's very pretty. The crowd is your typical Northeast College and 20 somethings crowd. Not as young and rude as a Gov Ball crowd, the vibes are good, although I doubt they match Roo's.
Seems like this lineup is going over really well. Guess I am out of touch.
I just think that this lineup is what appeals to the crowd at Firefly. As much as I would love to see Bon Iver/Fleet Foxes/Grizzly Bear/King Krule on this lineup I just don't think it would go over as well everyone getting to see Foster the People again.
And I guess Goldenvoice just decided that having The Killers as the 4th name on this would sell more tickets than have 5-8 (guessing) additional mid tier acts.
Now I am in a dilemma, most of the fest crew likes the firefly lineup enough to want to go. Maybe I just say the hell with it and go VIP Shaky Knees and Firefly GA. Don't get me wrong been looking forward to seeing Royal Blood, Alt-J and Everything Everything

Went in 2016...the campground isn't really comparable to Roo. They had some major water issues in 2016, but I heard they got those sorted out a bit for 2017. The premier camping is much closer, I'd highly suggest it. Lines to get in each day aren't really that bad, maybe 15 mins? However, the real issue is that there isn't anything else to do besides see shows, they have fewer amenities compared to EF, okee, roo, and coach. There's no art, the food is carnival-esque, but they did have a cool a/c arcade with some old school pinball machines.
There's no "shakedown" and not really any vendors selling things in the campground. It's a barebones experience for GA camping and the showers are nowhere near as nice as the permanent ones at roo (actually roo might have the best shower situation of any camping fest now). If you're into the lineup i'd recommend it, just be prepared for a young/drunk crowd, think way less party favors and more natty ice.

So what is the cost of this fest, just out of curiosity? Because on the website there are separate costs for passes and camping.
starting price for a 4 day pass is 269 plus fees, so figure $300. Camping pass is required if you want to camp, it's per car, so split between # of people you're camping with, so 169 plus fees split 4-5 ways.

Hey mg any idea if they're planning on partnering up with Everfest again for the VIP upgrades? I don't see this selling out at 90k so hopefully can still get some use out of my membership.

I emailed them today to ask. Right now it just says perks to be announced
