Having this being the Arctic Monkeys' first announced date has generated an insane amount of buzz, both in the US and abroad, for this fest. The memes are absolutely flying on twitter
Hey mg any idea if they're planning on partnering up with Everfest again for the VIP upgrades? I don't see this selling out at 90k so hopefully can still get some use out of my membership.
I haven't heard anything just yet, but I don't usually find out a lot of that stuff until after lineup and ticket sales start. My programs will start getting more busy now that those two things are here.
Your camping experience depends on what type of camping you get. If you just go GA campgrounds then you have to walk over a bridge to get to and from the festival (bottlenecks at the end of the day). I recommend the premier camping where you arrive Wednesday and have a much shorter walk to the festival. The festival is well run although there’s not much to do outside of music. The crowds are fine for the most part. The festival is mostly college kids so it can get a bit “bro-y” but everyone I met was pretty nice. Food options kinda suck and are really expensive even compared to roo and Lolla.
I've done GA camping every year except last. It's perfectly fine. The 15-20 minute walk can be annoying on the way in especially if it's hot, and once you're in you really don't go back to your tent until the day is over.
The grounds are really nice which is what I think sets it apart from other festivals I've been to (Wayhome, Gov Ball, never Roo). There is so much room and like 7 stages all together. And at night the trees are all lit up and it's very pretty. The crowd is your typical Northeast College and 20 somethings crowd. Not as young and rude as a Gov Ball crowd, the vibes are good, although I doubt they match Roo's.
We have been to several festivals: Roo, Coachella, Lolla, Hangout and others. Normally we do Roo but can't this year. We want to do a camping fest this year. So, how is this festival run? Good grounds, camping OK? Give me an overall opinion vs. Roo for camping and overall grounds. I am curious about how the crowd is, the facilities, the camping areas, etc... Not line-up artist related - All of the line-ups have good and bad to them. Let me know some feedback. thanks
I can compare Coachella and this:
Camping wise, I've never waited more than 5-10 minutes checking into camping for FF, the line at Coachella was about an hour. Camping grounds at FF aren't as nice as Coachella, grass is longer and rougher, I really like the nicely manicured camping ground grass at coachella. majority of the GA camping spots are a 15-20 minute walk to the front gates, coachella is about 10 minutes. if you go in during peak hours, there will be a line to get into the actual festival. Security depends on the person, I brought in a plastic flask of whiskey all 3 days to Coachella, but had one taken my first time through at ff. Actual size of the grounds is a pretty decent difference, coachella is very compact and ff is pretty spread out, it can take 20ish minutes to go from the stages that are the farthest apart. Crowd at ff is usually solid, depends on the show though, but if I had to sterotype, its mostly drunk college kids. I prefer the coachella crowd to the ff crowd. I like drinking beer while seeing shows, ff has a ton of beer stands throughout, coachella has the beer gardens, but that's personal preference. Facilities are similar, ff got those upgraded porta potties that look like mini bathrooms, and they have those pee trough things for guys which is nice. That's a giant run on sentence of my thoughts, feel free to pm me if you have more questions. I've gone to ff every year I've lived in philly.

Thanks all for this feedback. It seems like an easy fest to travel to. We are doing Coachella and I think we will add this to our list this year. Any other feedback is appreciated.

You'll have a ton of fun at Firefly, I really don't have a negative thing to say about the festival (other than the lineup). Def do Wed camping. Getting into the festival is generally a breeze, getting out can take a minute from premier camping since there is really only one road to get out.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb
Firefly's lineups are always so sterile that I forget it's a camping fest. Bonnaroo at least (this year) has a weird enough lineup that you could talk yourself into huffing freon from a paper bag at 2 in the afternoon to watch Sheryl Crow or the Grand Ole Opry and get freaky. At Firefly I picture people checking their phones and drinking Coors Light cans while they wait for Kendrick.
It's not the worst lineup ever but I dunno why you'd camp for it.
I'm really hoping there will be some solid additions. If you take away the top line this lineup is severely lacking.
I can't really shed much light as I don't know much of the bottom several lines so whether some of that is good or not is unknown. But there is some cool shit there - just not sure about 4 days worth at this point. I'm assuming you know all the top 4 lines, so working below that:
Rudimental - I saw them back in 2013. They were very talented (a London act I think) and would switch to some really good sounding music only to seemingly always come back to R&B. Since I'm not an R&B fan (outside of Motown and Stax of yesteryear), they didn't do much for me. But a lot of people really like them, and they've got the multi-genre thing going for them. Think a slightly less poppy Black Eyed Peas with multiple singers and decent musicians.
Marian Hill - I had a good time seeing them last October. It was a pass by set for me but it turned out to be fairly entertaining. They mix things up pretty well and are talented (as well as really loud for the type of stuff they play).
Lizzo - JUICY JAY loves her. She's slightly less vulgar than Cupcake.
San Holo - Decent DJ from Holland but the last time I saw him it wasn't all that unique compared to previous sets.
Chicano Batman - Cool band out of Los Angeles that kind of plays what they want to play. They are rooted in soul but have some funk and indie tendencies. I watched them on the Coachella stream a while back and then finally saw them in October. It's not going to blow you away, but it's should be a solid set.
Spafford - Cool rock/jam band from Arizona we saw back in 2016. They're up and coming and are pretty talented.
Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real - Willie's son who plays sort of a newer style of country rooted in some rock and blues. POTR was more rock with Neil Young than they are with Lukas, but it should still be a decent show.
Ron Gallo - Decent 3 piece garage rock band fronted by Ron Gallo
Sorry I don't have much more than that. I recognize some names near the bottom, but outside of Flint Eastwood I don't have much else.
Saw them last year at air and style and they're still great. They didn't play any new stuff it was all the hits but I would assume the album is coming soon and the set would change a bit.
I got early bird tickets thinking they couldn’t possibly put out a lineup not worth $200, but they managed to prove me wrong. If anyone wants them at cost let me know.
Not sure if you sold these or not yet, but I'll definitely buy these off of you.
I wonder how this will sell. Usually you can get GA passes for under $200 in the weeks before the fest (secondary market).
I don’t think the drunk college bro scene is as lineup dependent as you would think, so even though there is significantly less cheese than last year, they’ll still show up. Toss in some extra alt rock fans due to AM. I don’t think this will sell out, but it’ll be closer to 2016 than 2017.

I ain't gonna lie, this is pretty spot on. I really do love our fans, but you're right in that a TON of them really do come out regardless of lineup, which hey if that's what people are into I'm not here to judge. I've been monitoring social media all morning and while EVERY SINGLE YEAR there are haters, this year didn't seem to have the same amount of venom as last year. I think ticket sales will go well tomorrow and it'll be a good year for the festival and fans.

It does seem like the lineup is going over really well. I think its crap. But people seem happy, so I guess you guys know your audience.

I was shocked by some of the positive feedback on here. Several of the regulars on here who I thought would completely desecrate it actually said they liked it. Who the heck knows anymore...

I think we're underestimating the amount of bros that goto this thing. The frat guy scene in the mid-Atlantic is strong and a line up with Eminem, Lil Wayne, Logic, and Martin Garrix will bring them out en masse.
The amount of Toon Squad jerseys will be out of control, really hope the local 7/11's bring in extra Ice's for the weekend...
Over/under on sexual assaults? This has a Woodstock 99 vibe to it ha.
