Nooooo save PTM and stack Saturday. Could you imagine:
9 Main: Kendrick Lamar
10:45 Backyard: Portugal the Man
12:15 Main: Arctic Monkeys
I think they'd switch Kendrick and AM, but yea that would be insane.
Yeah I went back and forth I guess it depends whether a headliner cares about starting after midnight or doesn't have a problem not closing the main stage.

I think there's enough real racism in this country to bother being concerned or offended by white people singing back lyrics of a performer during a concert.
Maybe Foster the People or, in turn, Portugal. The Man?
Thursday headliner has traditionally been somewhere between 15-20 on the poster, so I think both of them are too high up.
I’d bet Cold War kids or royal blood - Cold War kids have a little more mainstream appeal, and they’re of similar energy and popularity as Glass animals, two door and the kooks.

spent the day diving into this undercard...really a lot that im into. Totally enough to keep me entertained for 4 days plus the top couple lines really catering to my tastes, it looks like this is the fest my friends and i are gonna do this year.
all acts im down for
Kendrick Arctic Monkeys The Killers Odesza Lil Wayne SZA Alt-J Portugal. The Man Foster The People MGMT Big G Chromeo Warren G Chicano Batman Spafford Lukas Nelson &POTR Ron Gallo Chet Porter Melvv Yung Gravy
It does seem like the lineup is going over really well. I think its crap. But people seem happy, so I guess you guys know your audience.
I was shocked by some of the positive feedback on here. Several of the regulars on here who I thought would completely desecrate it actually said they liked it. Who the heck knows anymore...
Agreed with this post entirely....personally not a fan but from this board and Reddit seems like they nailed their demo

they got a great set of headliners, avoided the chainsmokers, and the rest of the big festivals aren't that great either. Of course the target demo is gonna be happy.
I think people on here can forget that most people dont know anyone at a festival past line 4 regardless, especially the people who are going to hang with their friends and drink, which is the firefly demographic
Bonnaroo at least (this year) has a weird enough lineup that you could talk yourself into huffing freon from a paper bag at 2 in the afternoon to watch Sheryl Crow or the Grand Ole Opry and get freaky.

this is a good point ... i'm off to shaky knees this year instead, hope next year is better for firefly

They dodged all 3 of The Chainsmokers, Imagine Dragons and Halsey. That's a miracle.

I think this is an underrated point. They didn’t book many bands that people can immediately criticize as “bad.” Maybe Odesza doesn’t get you tight in the pants, but there’s not a lot of easy targets to bitch about.

this. Eminem is a wash since everyone got him, as far as pure cheese goes whats to complain ab in the top lines besides Logic and Martin Garrix? I get it if Lil Wayne isn't your thing but he holds a special place in my heart and i think he'll be fun.
just imagine how shitty this lineup could of been with a few different bookings here and there.
Eminem - Kendrick Lamar - Arctic Monkeys - The Chainsmokers Odesza - Lil Wayne - Logic - Martin Garrix - Halsey - Alt J Portugal. The Man - Khalid - MGMT - Post Malone
I like this top four better than Bonnaroo, but I the undercard is more bland, if that's possible. Except amen dunes. I think Firefly would be the absolute last fest I'd expect to see them show up. That's pretty interesting.

I completely get how most people are stoked for this top four.
One of the best rappers of all time Perhaps the best current rapper A popular rock band coming off hiatus and thus far exclusive US booking A familiar radio friendly rock band.
For me personally it just doesn't work. As I mentioned I'm just not a big rap fan, so that wipes out half the top line. AM didn't wow me in 2014 and I just can't really get into them like most on here. And then of course the Killers are just the Killers, the band you don't mind seeing but feel like you've seen 1,000 times. I've always kind of felt I need one headliner I'm REALLY excited about to justify going to a major festival. I can live with the undercard, even if I've seen everything I like. It is actually a good amount of acts I do like. Honestly if you would have subbed out Jack White or Queens of the Stone Age for any of the four I'd be in.
It did fail my test of being either bad or good enough to be entertaining, but maybe that in and of itself is a win for Red Frog.
And really - if they are pushing hard for the "I need to see Slim Shady this summer and I'm buying tickets on Friday when I get paid" crowd (and judging by the lineup release date that sure seems like the case), they did what they had to do to stay at parity. Having Eminem at your fest this summer is kind of like having nuclear weapons - no real good comes of it but it's a necessary evil to keep your rivals at bay.

Halsey's not going out without a fight though! Ugh.
So the last couple years there's been 135-145 artists on the lineup and this year there's only 95. I would imagine there'll be 10-15 substantial additions (ideally bands like Thundercat, Moses Sumney, Broken Social Scene etc.) and 20-30 coffeehouse/hub additions. It'll be interesting to see what the complete lineup looks like.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb
Interesting statistics I saw someone post on the Firefly FB page
Whenever I see these genre breakdowns, I am interested which bands just get thrown into the indie pile. I track this stuff for my own info too, but if you are throwing 6 different subcategories into the Indie, its a pretty meaningless descriptor.
