I think people just really like well established Alt-Rock at Firefly. It's what it was built on, and I bet a lot of the people who felt a bit betrayed by the fests direction last year are coming back cause they lineup is solid and they miss the atmosphere. That's why I am.
You are the exact type of person missing last year that I really missed because it affected the overall vibes.
I still had a great time last year, but whereas it was previously a predominantly alt-rock festival with the crowd to match, last year the crowd had a much more varied taste in music. There were a lot of younger people there (granted I was only 24) who were much more excited for the Weeknd and Chance than any of the alt rock acts.
Also the fact that for a lot of them it was their first festival, you noticed the inexperience more in the way they handled everything. I don't know how to explain it really, hopefully you get what I'm saying.
I got lucky and we ended up camping next to some older people who were Firefly vets like us and reminded me of the awesome atmosphere and attitude that Firefly has always been about.
Hopefully this year the larger crowd and the returning alt rock fans will add a bit more influence to the vibes to even out the mix of Molly kids with stoned and drunk 20/30 year old's.
I'm interested to see what the crowd is like this year too. I never felt that Firefly was a super young fest with high schoolers the same way I feel old at Gov Ball and Lolla. It has always felt predominantly college and 20-somethings. I'll be 26 at this one so interesting to see if the crowd feels much younger than 2 years ago.

thing is about this year is that there are a number of acts that appeal to young people. Odesza, Logic, Lil Wayne, Kendrick, and Garrix
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb
I'm not going on Saturday, but Jade Bird, Alex Lahey, Lucy Dacus and Chet Porter is a great way to the start the day. Royal Blood, Rag'n'Bone Man, Portugal. the Man and The Killers aren't bad either. It seems like the quality of the daily lineup steadily ramps up throughout the weekend.

Got my email yesterday, super pumped! I'm interested to see the new wristband design with the rebranding this year. Hopefully we get an app update in the next couple weeks with the hourly lineup too, excited to get planning.

Mountain Jam just released its schedule, and it takes place the same weekend as Firefly. Hopefully this means Firefly's schedule release is imminent.
I hope but considering Mountain Jam released daily lineups on March 13th and Firefly took their sweet ass time until April 11th, I wouldn't bank on the correlation.

According to reddit The earliest firefly released the schedule was May 16, which seems about right.
I've only listened to half the album so far, but this is definitely not going to go down well with big crowds. They may want to enjoy their headlining status while it lasts.

Nah, I'm betting that the goodwill from their previous albums will keep them as headliner for the next album cycle as well. They won't drop off like, say, Phoenix.

Most of the album sounds like really bad lounge music, but there’s no way they tour with more than a few songs from this album, which is still a few songs too many.
Really enjoying this album. Hope I don't end up in a section of the crowd where people are loudly complaining about how "chill" it is.
The rest of the Friday lineup is awful, so you can easily aim for a great spot up front.
I hope people don't show up for Friday, a lot of bands I want to see(CWC, Big Gigantic, Foster The People, Logic, Jimmy Eat World). Maybe I'm in the minority with that though

Yeah Friday is really thin. The only stuff worth seeing are Cold War Kids, Jimmy Eat World, Foster The People, Arctic Monkeys. And I think they might just run those straight on the Main Stage all day - in which case getting up front for AM after Foster when all the others are going to Logic or whatever shouldn't be difficult.
Just hoping they have something interesting late night aside from Big Gigantic.

not really a whole lot of artists that would make sense for late night other than Big G. might get stuck with like cheat codes

The only reason they've ascended to headliner status though is because of hype for their first album in 5 years. They weren't even headliners in the U.S. after AM blew up. Since this album definitely won't be a hit commercially, I just can't see them sustaining that level of interest.

But their 5th album built up a ton of residual goodwill since it came out five years ago... plus, don't forget that they are the new saviors of rock & roll (despite the new record) and that there's a genre incentive to keep them as a rock headliner.

It would be cool if they did what happened in 2016. Where they got Stubhub to sponsor the Coffeehouse stage and used the extra cash to book Jack Antonoff and Silversun Pickups.
Firefly is proud to announce the Treehouse Stage is now named the Casamigos Stage and is opened late (2AM) Thursday - Saturday with additions of Nick Murphy, Jaime xx, and VHS Collection.

So it looks like blackbear will be cancelling. He's 28th on the lineup and 2nd on Tuesday, so big enough that they'll have to replace him.
Could be a great opportunity to bolster Thursday. Chvrches and Walk the Moon are free and playing the bday show that weekend, although both are probably too big for an even switch.
Tash Sultana, LANY, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Daniel Caesar are some other names that are pretty even on lineups this summer and are free.
If they want to stay on the same shtizy hip-hop/pop/EDM hybrid that blackbear was...I don't have those guesses.

Just food for thought, but at a quick look, Playboi Carti is 28th on Roo's lineup. Will be in the *rough* area...

Good guess! Yeah not my thing, sounds very much like cootie cutter rap in 2018. But Pitchfork gave his new album a 8.5 for some reason so what do I know.
However PF also crapped on Middle Kids new album for being to anthemic which is annoying. As if it's a bad thing for a new rock band to want to have a big sound in 2018.

He does still list Firefly on his tour dates (http://beartrap.la/). He took off Lolla and Hangout so I'm thinking he'll still play
New map is out, and they are moving the Porch Stage again. This time to the area where the Backyard Stage is. They almost moved the Coffee House back it it's original location.
