Update: Crowd has really out. Arctic is not playing a very Firefly friendly set.
How were they?
I'm a fan, so the best I'd say is okay. The mood of the new album really overtakes the whole set and it's really lounge musicy. Most of my group didn't like it.
This Wayne show is bonkers. Some generic DJ shit and all, but go Delaware. Big G was a giant party too. Maybe 20k at Backyard? It’s too bad they sort of became caricatures. They used to be fairly exciting, but most of their shows now (except certain circumstances) are pretty generic and boring to me.
Lil Wayne was one is the worst acts I've ever seen - at least compared to what I'm sure it could have been. The sound was bad and Wayne himself sounded awful. Sometimes a song would be halfway over before I even recognized it as one I knew. I like Wayne so I was disappointed.
Eminem was an interesting experience. He was the sole reason I bought the ticket and was a bucket list act for me. He started out playing mostly old stuff, and I legit felt like it was shaping up to be one of the best shows I've seen. But then he started playing his post-TES stuff and the show lost a bit of wind. Could be that I don't care for pop Em as much. It was neat though seeing other people go as crazy over songs like Love the Way You Lie as I did over Kill You. Really shows the longevity of Em's career.
It was also funny hearing him say "Everyone get home safe" at the end of his set. Obviously he's a 40+ year old guy with daughters and ten years of sobriety under his belt so he's not the edgy no fucks giver he used to be, but it was a wholesome sentiment from the guy who's entire public persona used to be a giant middle finger.
Just went for a day this year, and just got back. The festival grounds were literally a ghost town till the sun started setting, it was insane. Amen Dunes (who literally played to about 50 people, sadly) and The Glorious Sons were fantastic though. I was able to get within 20-30 feet of the stage at every show except Kendrick, but even then I was able to get a decent spot. Overall an underwhelming crowd compared to the last time I went (2014). If this is an uptick from last year then 2017 must have been really pathetic.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb

I think that was a result of the heat, exhaustion and the relatively weak lineup during the day. Both Friday and Saturday were pretty packed - although people definitely like to tailgate for a long time at Firefly and keep drinking at camp.
BTW thought Lil Wayne was pretty good. No real backing track, had good energy, and the set was a giant party. Eminem pleasantly surprised me too.

I rolled and stayed till the end of Odesza; got home at 4 am, slept for 2 hours, and got to work by 8 am. My pupils are grapefruits. My blood is red bull.

Just got back.
Another fun weekend. Can echo the crowd size sentiment. It was super easy to relatively close to any set, even the headliners. First time seeing AM, loved it, I really like the new album so that was cool. Em was pretty bad imo. Kendrick was solid, except for every time he said this was his first time in Delaware. Got a good laugh when Brandon flowers asked the crowd if they were sick of them yet since they’ve played fest so many times. Wish they stepped up the stage production a bit, one screen at lawn and backyard is lame. I thought lil Wayne was pretty good. Overall, not better than 2015 and 2016, but definitely a step up from last year.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

I can understand the heat and exhaustion part, but sunday’s Day time lineup was easily the best of the weekend. Anyone who missed amen dunes, the glorious sons, Kamasi Washington and MGMT should be kicking themselves

how was Kamasi's crowd?
I thought Kamasi was awesome but I sat wayyyy back in the shade due to how hot out it was at the time. Not sure how the crowd up front by the stage was.
Kamasi was incredible, his entire ensemble just shredded nonstop. And the dueling drummers sounded phenomenal, really just incredible musicianship all around. His crowd was unsurprisingly very thin, although the people who were there were loving it. I saw alt-j a couple years back at the Landmark festival in DC and they were definitely better then than they were at firefly. Still not a bad set, just subdued.

Thought the crowd was pretty small this year, maybe similar to last year. Thursday and Friday's crowd in particular seemed very small. Think Arctic Monkeys might have been outdrawn by a few acts on Saturday and Sunday.
Thought Arctic Monkeys set was ok. I think they maybe played 3-4 songs off their new album and the slowness drags the sets down a little. VIP was essentially barren for their show and I was able to walk in and get seats as they were starting.
Killers put on a great show as usual, and I guess I had very low expectations for Eminem so I enjoyed it. His set started out well but kind of faded as it went along. Kendrick Lamar only played about an hour of his allotted 90 minutes.
After the last two years, I hope they manage to get a little bit more for the midcard next year. Definitely started to feel like I was aging out of this festival.

subs this year were definitely a step down.
2016 had porter/tame/luda(moved I forget who took his spot), m83/asap rocky/tchami, and 1975/earth, wind and fire/mo
2018 had cold war kids/logic/cheat codes, PtM/Mike D/san holo, and sza/alt-j/weathen
since ff can't really pull rare and unique headliners, I'd rather they focus resources on lines 2-4 instead.

I think this is true for all of us but I always wonder how much people are sold on the headliners compared to the rest of the lineup
