Is it too early to start next year's thread or do we need to wait til the lineups get released?
This one got started in August last year. I don't know how that compares to previous years. The college thread has started anywhere between January and April. More than anything, just make sure you watch your thread title.

I wonder if that reflects in any way of Andrew Luck's health. That roster is truly a disaster. If there is even a hint that Andrew Luck's health is in question, I wouldn't blame Josh McDaniels to skip out and wait another year for a better situation.

Well he's unlikely to get another shot after backing out in this fashion. They had already announced the hire.
It's more likely that he has been given assurances that he will be replacing Belichick soon.

That was my first thought as well. He's putting off one job because he has one he thinks is better lined up.
Bad call for McDaniel regardless. He better hope he's the Belichick heir and that BB continues on as GM. Nobody's going to deal with him after this. And besides how long does he think he can continue to coach and win because of Brady?

At this point, I see the Pats drafting a QB and grooming them to be a successor to Brady. Someone handpicked by Belichick and McDaniels. I can see Belichick, Brady, and Gronk all leaving at the same time. Possibly after 2018, more likely 2019. At that point, McDaniels and the new QB takes over.

imagine the pressure of replacing BB - you've got a fanbase that's won 5 super bowls in under 20 years and you have to replace the GOAT QB. You gotta have a serious ego to try and fill those shoes.

Yep, it's a great plan. But the likelihood of fulfilling that plan is slim. How often do you draft the GOAT QB and how often do you replace the GOAT coach successfully? Do you think BB stays on as GM?

I don't think the Pats will end up going 3-13, but I don't think they'll be as dominant as we're used to seeing.
What a mess in Indy. Apparently Andrew Luck still hasnt picked up and thrown a football yet. Hes teetering on bust-level.
The mess that McDaniels created extends well beyond his own future. The Cotls signed assistant coaches based on McDaniels expected acceptance. Now the story is that the Colts will honor those contracts which means they'll have to find a coach willing to work with assistants chosen by somebody else. I'm not a Colts fan but that is really fucked up.
I mean if the colts told him luck would be ready and then he finds out he's not and then Kraft offers him a raise he has every right to back out. Maybe Indy should have waited to hire the assistants. You cant play both the "we did the right thing" and the victim cards over the same issue.

I was listening to sports radio most of the day yesterday, and guest after guest connected with the NFL were not putting the blame on McDaniels much. Most assumed he’d be eventually replacing Belichek, but also figured that if he didn’t, he’d still be able to find a job with another organization. Supposedly, most coaches who interviewed with the Colts were not very impressed with their presentation. Whether that means that they were unsure about Luck, or just Ballard’s vision is unclear. Supposedly the Colts weren’t sold on McDaniels either. They only offered him the job because most of their top candidates signed with other teams. Word is, their first choice was Matt Nagy.
