The Giants benched Eli Manning in favor of Geno Smith. Wtf.
Classic case of "sure, why not..." but in all seriousness, I don't see the point in playing Manning rn. Streak or not, it's not worth maybe winning 2 more games and adding more wear on Eli.

Imagine being Eli Manning and being told your getting benched for Geno freaking Smith. Not even the recent draft pick Webb. I can just picture the confused look on his face now.

He actually cried when interviewed about it. At this point, I almost feel like McAdoo is trying to get fired.

He's pretty much getting fired at the end of the year anyway. IIRC, ownership basically gave him until the end of the year and were non-committal for five minutes after Week 17 ends.
I'm under the assumption starting Geno Smith is an semi-admission of tanking for Darnold/Rosen

I just think the AFC south is shit this year. Houston was looking like the cream of the crop but that Watson injury was just devastating. Clowney has finally arrived but Watt is out. No Luck in Indy so of course the Jags and Titans rise in the void. The playoffs will show whether they are for real or not.
Yeah, Watt and Watson injuries definitely weakened Houston. It's not like they have had JJ or a good QB for the last couple of years when they still were racking up division titles. It looks like JAX general management and lucrative free agent signings may have finally paid off, unless Tennessee can whip together a successful end to the season with all the talent they have.
I hope Eli reunites with Coughlin in Jacksonville next year and knocks Brady out of the AFC championship game on his way to beating the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
I could see the Ravens or Chargers making some kind of run like how Baltimore did in 2012, but i doubt it. Would love to see it though. Imagine if the Chargers brought a Conference Champion banner or Super Bowl title to LA before the Rams...
and statistically, the Jags defense is better than any other AFC team. If Bortles could make fewer mistakes (which aint happening) and Fournette stays consistent, Jacksonville always could have a chance. Coughlin totally changed the culture there.
Someone make the argument that the AFC Championship game will NOT be New England vs. Pittsburgh II
If the Jags make it out of the first round, the steelers do not want to see us. Defense and running game travel well and we already beat the shit out of them in week 5.
Whoever said the Jags are shit clearly hasnt been paying attention. Before last week we were number 1 in virtually every important defensive statistic and we were beginning to be talked about with the best defenses of the last 20 years. And btw we already beat the Chargers despite two ints from Bortles in the final 2 minutes of the game.
Having said that, Blake is shit. So while I think we could beat anybody in the playoffs with the best defense in the league, I think we could also lose to anyone due to Blake Bortles.
I think it's bullshit that the AFC will likely put an 8-8 team into the playoffs while the Saints are sitting at 8-3 and are only a couple divisional losses away from not even making the playoffs at all.
I mean, it happens almost every other year that some sorry team makes it in, but it doesn't make me any less stressed about this season. We lose Okafor for the season and Lattimore for a few games and play two stronger offenses and BOOM it's like the wheels are falling off the wagon.

It is completely unfair, but it is part of the reason why the NFL is the most entertaining league by far. The fact that you are stressed and fraught with anticipation to view every single game is the beauty of it.

Wheels aren't falling off of shit. It's just that it's going to take some finagling with our lockdown CB out for a couple of weeks. I'm not worried about it at all. We have the division in our hands with games against the Panthers and then 2 vs. the Falcons in the next 4 weeks. Beat the Panthers and split with the Falcons and we're probably the division winners. The losses to the Rams and Vikings will hurt us and probably relegate us to hosting a game wildcard weekend as the #3 or #4 seed. But still, that's better than being a 7-9 quality opponent.
Another thing that is really exciting about the NFC, specifically the NFC South, is that we all play each other in the next five weeks. The remaining schedules for the Eagles, Vikings, Rams, Saints, Panthers, Falcons, and Seahawks are all tough. We are going to beat each other up and see who comes out on the other end.
The only team that has a chance at sneaking in outside of those seven listed above are really the Lions because they are only a game back and their remaining schedule is pretty soft. However, they've already lost to the Saints, Falcons, Panthers, and Vikings. It'll be nearly impossible for it not to be six of the seven teams listed above.
