Sat: Sir Sly > Bomba Estereo > Bones > first half of LL Cool J > Carly Rae Jepsen > St. Vincent > Vampire Weekend > Jack White after show
Goldlink is pretty good. Idk. Delicious Meatball referred me to him via Tom Misch. Thanks to him for that, I’ll not be missing either’s Voodoo set. Been on the beach all day but it’s time to catch up.

Goldlink is the king of DC Hip Hop right now. I checked out his first two LPs after he was announced as part of the Bonnaroo lineup and enjoyed them. He's been popping up on a lot of features recently.
God damn. Clearly I’m not the only motherfucker in the city who can stand St. Vincent. Damn. First time I ever heard of her was Flea at Bonnaroo 2012 (was a year about the music and not the high fives, nttawwt) talking about coming to understand what Bonnaroo was and it was all about the music (! ! !). He said he was out with his wife and son the day before and was blown away by St, Vincent and also how much Dumpstaphunk ruled the day before as well. Usually I’ll reaearch the fuck out of shit, but I went on a whim so I didnt know everyone. Next I heard about her she was at Tips, and a buddy of mine and another witch friend went. Guitar buddy got a beer poured on his head by her as she crawled around the railing above the floor and took a beer and dumped it out in a sacrifice. He hated it because he had to drive home, but he loved it because being part of a sacrifice in a St Vincent ritual isn’t the end of the world. Haha. Glad I finally got to see her at Day for Night and hope to get another chance to see her soon in person after so many tv/stream appearances. I guess ACL Saturday in a run of St Vincent Deftones Metallica with hopefully some of Chvrches thrown in would be fucking money for me.
You have witch friends? That is some real life NOLA voodoo shiz.
Yeah. I have a couple witch friends. I’m pretty neutral on people’s religion and spirituality when it isn’t thrown in my face. I’m gonna call em out if they get all occult up in my shit just like I’d call out a 700 Club follower trying to prosthlytize to me.

Yeah, St. Vinny is always great. The last two times I saw her, at DFN and Dallas in February, it was just her on guitar with backing tracks. Lately, she's returned to being backed with a band. I look forward to that at ACL. It will add something fresh to the new material without a new album.
Vampire Weekend are even better with the bigger band. That crowd sounds amazing as well.
They're much more interesting live now. The tuning in this Yah Hey intro is atrocious, though. Idk if they're going for something super weird and dissonant here but holy moly.

Yeah the weird vocals during “Ya Hey” were off-putting, but everything else was fantastic.
I was watching The Weeknd. He was fine. Too reliant on his guiding vocal for my tastes but the crowd seemed into it.
I tried. And I tried again. I have tried before. For whatever reason Vampire Weekend was cutting out on the hotspot. However Tash Sultana was on ahead of Zedd. She was good, and I’m glad she had a night show at a festival. She’s earned it. I tried Zedd. I have tried before. He has nice light shows. Luckily Vampire Weekend isn’t cutting out now.

I'm not even talking about the vocals. The instruments were very out of tune in the first couple sections. It was bizarre. I guess it was intentional.
Gutting through a mostly annoying Flosstradamus set at Hard at the moment killing time until I can see Bomba Estéreo, Catfish atbm and LL Cool J if I can stay up that long.
