Am I the only one who doesn’t mind Citi Field as the venue? It’s about 10 minutes further from Manhattan than Flushing Meadows, not sure how the location change would matter that much. Aditionally I think the setup at Meadows is even better than Govball’s, it’s certainly easier to get around and I actually prefer the blacktop (over Govball’s usual mud). I assume the setup at the new location would be similar to that of Randall’s.
I feel that they could easily sell it out if they booked the right acts. They should go the route they took in 2016 (think Kanye, The Weeknd, 1975, J. Cole, as much as I can’t stand the latter). Jay-Z and Gorillaz are good headliners but just aren’t big draws. Same goes for other “big” acts last year (Erykah, LL, Nas, etc). Solid acts, but they can’t be moving many tickets I’m sure those took a lot of funding to book as well. I’m sure they would do fine if they targeted a slightly younger, more generic audience. Not saying that would help the quality of the fest but it would certainly sell. I’d honestly recommend that they go the route of Rolling Loud. There is still no dedicated rap festival of that caliber in the area. If they really want to have this fest this year with only headliners on retainer they could throw in a bunch of Soundcloud rappers who couldn't cost that much to book along with some solid headliners. It works for Rolling Loud, it should work for the spoiled kids of NY who are always at Govball for those types of acts.

Agreed with you completely until you said Jay Z isnt a big draw. Jay Z is def a big draw, and his show was packed.

The 4:44 tour, as small as it was, had a very difficult time moving tickets. Had it not been for all the tickets they handed out last year the effect would have been much different. Keep in mind Founders basically promoted this fest as one big Jay-Z concert. All the promo featured him heavily and his day still did not sell out despite the giveaways.

It kind of bums me out that the thing you prescribe as a way to save the festival would make me not want to go to the festival, any more.
A big reason for last years low Fri and Sat sales are being blamed on location. Fans arent big on it and neither are the artists. New location is better for everyone. If they can't lock that down, no point in even having it.
Is it a location where there are already some festivals, or would it be a new location entirely?

I do think you have a point here, albeit a very cynical one. Outside of Gov Ball, maybe a diverse and multi-genre festival isn't in the cards when so much else is going on.
I've made the same point with Pano, but these fests would have more luck by splitting up and going with a 1 day all hip-hop festival where they could throw in a ton of soundcloud rap with a few heavy hitters. And then you can do a 1 day Shaky Knee's-esqe festival for the alt-rock crowd.

As an alt/indie guy who is aging out of festivals, it seems most of the people I'd want to see this fall have already booked area dates so I highly doubt there will be much at this I'd be interested in if it even happens. I still think it's awesome if we can have two general interest festivals in the city a year but given the festival burst of 2018 with lagging sales and cancellations, wouldn't be surprised if they take the year off given they seem to still be having issues with finding a location

This was the case a couple of months before the tour, but the market got hot closer to the dates. He sold out the entire arena in DC

Just curious with Saturday and Sunday of Gov Ball selling out, is this still in limbo? What's the deal here?
Also curious if someone wants to PM me any details. Keeping the fall wide open in terms of tickets since all these last minute shows keep popping up and it's cluttering my calendar. Either way, if this doesn't happen (which would be a bummer) hope we at least get to hear who the headliners on retainer were.

Was Gov Ball selling through part of the concern? Like Meadows being announced beforehand would detract in some way?
I'd imagine they'd want Meadows out there before Gov Ball so they can plaster ads for it all over the grounds like they did last year, and follow-up with attendees about it while they are still (presumably) riding high off their Gov Ball experience.

same, wasn't able to go last year but was planning on this year

My thought process is announcing the Meadows lineup early could slow Gov Ball sales if people find they'd wanna go here instead, but with Sat and Sun selling out maybe they won't have any issue dropping the lineup. Since we're a week and a half out it from GB it seems irrelevant now. But they money's all going to the same pockets so I don't know

Florence is going to be announcing North American dates sometime tonight or tomorrow. It’ll be interesting to see if there will be a NYC date or if she is one of the headliners on retainer.

Update: NYC is on the itinerary. However, she doesn't seem likely for Meadows as no other festival appearance location was featured on the promo video.

Bummer. I would hate for this to be the end of this fest. I hope they continue to work towards securing a grassy location for next year. I don’t want this being like Landmark Fest in D.C. a few years ago. RIP.
