I though the earlier in the day bands were good but a lot of them to me were similar and I must admit I didn't love them all enough to spend the entire day inside.
I think there needs to be a healthy mix of some older bands that pull in that original crowd and a the younger bands to pull in the younger.
This is my 5th mountain jam (I believe) and crowd size was noticeably smaller. We got parked way up the mountain which totally sucked - kinda flat but what a bitch of a walk that was. It 100 percent played into my not going in as early as I normally do and then hoping back and forth for sets. I really liked the new tent stage. I thought I was going to hate it but it was so intimate and I though the sound was good. I think it works way better that that small stage next to the main where like 40 people awkwardly stand spread out among a huge field. The earlier acts at the main stage felt embarrassingly small but it was nice to get up close.
I really loved Sturgils set and Alt Js. I felt like people like them and PTM took being at Mt. Jam as an opportunity to be a lot more jammy than their albums would suggest they are and I really liked it. I wasn't too jazzed before hand for Jack Johnson - but he was one of my standout performances based mostly on experience. Just sitting on my blanket with friends singing along as the sun set was the perfect way to end the fest.
Hopefully this doesn't stop them from having this next year. I hope good things happen. I didn't see them pushing promotion of pre-sale tickets for next year. This may be my last year camping though. The nights were colder than I was prepared for. Overall had a great time.
Thursday was damned freezing in our tent. Friday too
for real. pretty sure I slept with like 3 long layers, a sweatshirt and blankets over my head and still woke up at 5 am freezing.
I have a place about 25 minutes away in Phoenicia on the other side of the mountain and we went there Sunday night - easily 15 - 20 degrees warmer.

I had a great time at this fest, honestly the small crowd sizes worked for me I loved being able to just walk right up to the main stage for most of the day. I also think the lineup was more successful than anticipated for the mountain jam regulars I only heard maybe 10 people complain about the music. For me the lineup really hit me sweet spot. Biggest surprise of the weekend for me was Larkin Poe on Sunday, I just wanted some shade, and they absolutely killed it.
Top 10 1) The War on Drugs 2) Father John Misty 3) Sturgill Simpson 4)Jenny Lewis 5) The Record Company 6) Portugal. The Man 7) Larkin Poe 8) Alice Merton 9) Kurt Vile 10) Alt J
I think there is a way for this festival to both please the jammers and bring in a younger festy audience. The east coast is desperately missing a mid sized festival that books acts like pitchfork, day for night, or Sasquatch do and I think Mountain Jam could be it.
A Lineup like
Jeff Lynne's ELO / Tame Impala/ Florence + The Machine St Vincent/ Blondie/ Lotus/ Gogol Bordello Courtney Barnett/ Booker T Jones/ Tash Sultana/ First Aid Kit/ Roseanne Cash/ Spafford

Would move a lot of tickets.
I would love that lineup! I don’t know if it would move tickets. I always have high hopes for this fest
I agree with those feeling Jeff Lynne's ELO would be a great headliner for Mountain Jam. From all accounts, their tour performances have been stellar, and they'd certainly satisfy most folks looking for some classic rock in the mix.
Good news- they start a summer 2019 tour on June 20- a week after Mountain Jam 2019 (if it happens). Let's hope...

With the announcement of Taste of Country as 6/7-6/9 and Bonnaroo being 6/13-6/16...that leaves only 6/21-6/23 as Mountain Jam's dates for 2019. I can't see them having two weeks between the two festivals, so I'd assume this is off for this year. What do others think?
Pick your poison- Firefly is 6/21-6/23. Firefly is just a few hours' drive, like Mountain Jam, from much of the NY/NJ/PA regions. Last year when MJ booked a more contemporary alt-heavy lineup (with some crossover with Firefly the same weekend), attendance suffered. Add to that the anticipation of a Woodstock 2019 for even more $$$ competition, and the odds seem stacked against Mountain Jam.
If they plan to prosper in 2019, they'd best book a lineup distinctly different from Firefly and Bonnaroo, appealing to a different crowd. Looking back at the 2017 MJ lineup- Petty/ Frampton/ Steve Miller and plenty of alt rock and bluegrass- that was different (and good) enough to draw the wife and I away from Firefly after 4 fun years.
The more real Woodstock 50 becomes, the more I think that there is no way this can stay above water in 2019.
Pretty sure this fest is dead.
This fest is very much alive, and is being taken over by Live Nation. Even if sales suffer due to Woodstock 50, I'm assuming it will continue in the future with LN at the helm.
I also think there's a decent chance it is the same week as Bonnaroo.

But why have they been radio silent then? Just seems odd.

As always, I'll share any info I may get, but if Live Nation is taking this over from my company, I may be out of luck.
2021 08-07: Japanese Breakfast @ Union Transfer 09-08: My Morning Jacket / Brittany Howard @ The Mann 09-18: Soccer Mommy @ Union Transfer 10-01 thru 10-03: Austin City Limits Music Festival 10-19: Waxahatchee @ Union Transfer 10-27: Arlo Parks @ The Foundry 11-09: Squid @ Johnny Brenda's 11-17: Monophonics @ World Cafe Live 12-01: Caribou @ Union Transfer
The Peach crew (Live Nation) always had a relationship with Mt. Jam. They advertised for each other at the fests and such.
I could see them getting involved. Tjats a lot of fests within three hours of each other with Peach, Bisco, Mt. Jam and Woodstock which would all be LN then.

Has anyone caught wind of any rumors on the line up?
I haven't heard anything rumor wise. But I think they bring back Warren and G-Mule. Possible headliners, MMJ, DMB, Phish or SCI. Wouldn't surprise me if they go after Bob Seger either. We're not buying tickets early this year until we see the lineup. That being said, this is by far my wife's favorite festival venue. Not to big, easy to get close to all the stages, food and bars are easily accessible and real restrooms. We usually stay 7-10 days, a lot to see and do in the area. Love the fishing and hiking in the area, and all the small town bars are fun. Woodstock is only 30-40 min. away and good to visit with all the bars and restaurants that have live music. Yeah, I'm sure we're going.
