The confusing thing is if they really wanted to commit to pivoting to alt-rock, why not push it back to the following weekend.
Hunter Mountain is so pretty and accessible to NYC, such a cool place for a Festival. I have friends who love the lineup but already bought tickets to Firefly. Why stay in direct competition.
"WFT Happened" "Thanks for the memories" "So are headliners going to be announced soon" "You're dead to me MTNJAM" "Worst Lineup""Thanks for making me buy Peach tickets" "Seriously?" "Booooooooooooo" "RIP Mountain Jam""See you at the Peach" "They aren't even jam bands WTF" "Does anyone know if we can get our money back?"
My fav is Katy Mae trying to buy somebody's cheap VIP tickets. Get on with your bad self, Katy! I'll be buying some cheap ones from people on Cashortrade myself.
They should rename this the "Mountain Festival" as they've completely taken out the Jam portion, which is unfortunate. For a festival that used to get acts like Gov. Mule, Allman Brothers Band, Levon Helm, Phil Lesh & Friends and Widespread Panic, this is pretty awful.

Mtn Jam changed direction because the old direction was not feasible. If they were making money hand over fist, it'd still be all jam. They've had all those problems with old Heads going up there getting pissed because they couldn't openly light up a bowl in front of a cop and people gave them a ton of grief. So they just decided, hey, let's appeal to younger people with some great music that's just different. I see no problem with it. I think this is a fantastic lineup for what it is.
I don't need another Jam festival. I have Lockn' and Peach. This is a good compromise for me and my wife.
Also, Woods is a freaking fantastic band, give them a shot.
There will be a Thursday preparty - per their Facebook.
Also - if they can call this CalJam, why can't it be Mountain Jam?
I am okay with this too. I'll go to a jam festival, but they don't usually excite me. Headliners aren't amazing, but at least it's not Eminem, The Killers and Jack White again.
Katy Mae I am still interested in this. itrainmonkeys no way you can make the whole weekend?
I'd looove to snag cheapo tickets though (not something I usually say). My CC can't handle another festival ticket right now, but I am also not worried about selling out so it could wait.
And I used to tout VIP here, but it has been like 4 or 5 years as ITM said. It used to be 100% worth it, but it was also like $300 cheaper. That's a big difference.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Not sure what I'm doing yet. nFF is definite but I'm looking at Boston calling and maybe at least one other festival. Thinking shaky knees or forecastle depending on who is going where and what costs are. May possibly do a day of this but even that is up in the air
I'd love to do Forecastle, but that would just be too hard to manage, I think. I should be at all the rest. NFF and BC are definites, and I'm pretty close to definite for Shaky. This is just so close and easy. Two hour drive and I usually have comp days to use at that time. If I can snag a cheap ticket, I could definitely move into the 100% going zone for this.

I was pretty stoked for this lineup yesterday based on the dozen names that leaked.. but that leak contained just about everything I'd be interested in. Don't get me wrong, Woods, Everything Everything, Jade Bird, and The Stone Foxes are all decent, but I was hoping for at least 20 artists on this lineup that interested me. Hopefully each column is its own daily lineup, I'd consider going on either the Jack Johnson or Alt-J day.

i think they’ve also significantly rolled back the benefits. I think you’ll be able to get cheap tickets. Hope to see you there!

It was mentioned on facebook that last year the state troopers cracked down on cannabis use at the festival. Will I be safe smoking a joint in the crowd/at my camp? How bad is it, really?

We never had a problem, but we didn’t smoke on the festival field, only at our camp. I think if you use your common sense you’ll be fine. If you stay VIP i recommend tipping your security guy day 1 (if you get a designated person) with $$ or food even. We did that day 1 last year and after that basically walked in with beers and food and whatever else we wanted after that. That’s why we love mountaintop because there’s only one person there the whole weekend during field hours.

I'm pretty pleased with this lineup. I've been the past few years and I'm super curious to see how the crowds shake out this year. The comments on facebook are gold. I'm curious who they will have for the Thursday pre-party. I have friends that have been hestient in years past to come because of the jam bands and this line up pushed them over the edge - so I'm excited to bring some new people to the mountain. I also think there are still a good amount of people here that can jam pretty well - they just aren't your typically jam bands. surprised to see no Franti - I personally can't stand Franti - but people are freaking out about it.
Anyone ever get a press pass for this fest or know someone who has? Can they access campgrounds or are they day passes only?

danbird has said they have been notoriously MIA about his requests for information about press passes over the years. Now that ownership has changed, maybe it'll be better.

Given that this festival seems to be leaning heavily on all these classic rock revivalist bands, I'd be surprised if Greta Van Fleet doesn't get added to this lineup. Really hoping Moses Sumney gets added too.

Question for those who have been before, we're going for the first time this year, and are looking for car camping site recommendations, or does it even matter?

Did riverside car camping last year. Was pretty nice...A decent walk (5 minutes) to the venue, but pretty relaxed. Nobody bothered us the entire weekend. Also kind of nice being right next to the river.

I've done the Hunter Car Camping for the past few years - I always try to time it so that I don't get stuck to far up the mountain - the only downside is that you are on a bit of a tilt no matter what - we still haven't perfected exactly which way to lay in our tents. But I love that it is no more than a few minutes from the main field. I like being able to hop back to camp for a quick second to grab food or beer without missing to much. We've also never been really bothered there either.

I'd think pointing feet downslope would be the most comfortable? I forgot which fest it was that I was on a slope but I think that was my solution
