Im just going to be optimistic for the first time in a decade... I think we are going to shit on teams all year the same way we did last year. There is no reason to think otherwise. We should be better on offense and defense.
The Texans need a few question marks to fall perfectly in their favor to have a chance with us imo.
God forbid Blake progresses. Then we would really have something.
I've never not been a fan, or not supported the team, I do think our owner is garbage and our fans are pretty awful, but I'm sticking around I guess.
We could be good, but people expect it mainly because everyone's Gaga about the Watt/sons returns. Our o line is still bad, our receiver depth isn't very good, our secondary will likely be torched regularly (unless Honey Badger shows up in a big way), and outside of a regularly injured watt our d line isnt very exciting. Those things have also always been true and that's why our records vs other teams are so bad.
I appreciate the new season of Hard Knocks because it shows that even a likely-incompetent organization of dipshits can portray itself as functional through the use of propoganda and well-produced television.
Weird metaphor for something I can't put my finger on..
A fantasy writer I follow on Twitter posed the following question:
Is it more likely the Jaguars make the Super Bowl or miss the playoffs?
What do you think, Jortles, in your unbiased opinion?
Good question. More likely to miss the playoffs. If this was the NBA where the offseason decides everything and the game is played on paper, I'd take superbowl. Just too many variables and too few games in the NFL.

Same. Too much variance between seasons in the NFL. If Watson stays healthy, who knows how well the Texans do (not even gonna touch Watt). That division sucks annually, though.

We did send two teams to the playoffs last year and the Texans looked hot before Watson went down. The AFC in general was trash though.
"Outside of an injury to a starter, is there anything that could make you feel differently about this team heading into week 1?"
My answer was no. Good or bad. Preseason means nothing.
Idk, I think it's important for young guys, cast off type free agents, new coaches. the win-loss records, and the total stats after 4 are pretty meaningless, but I wouldn't call Pre Season as a whole a crapshoot.

I think it means a lot to the teams and their process, but I don't think it means anything to fans trying to project regular season success.
Anyone watch the first episode of Hard Knocks? If not, it's up for free on the HBO YouTube page:
This is shaping up to be a great season (of Hard Knocks. The Browns will probably be terrible.)
The only way I'll watch one of those is if the Bills are subject. They really don't want to be on, though, so I may never watch.
It's generally a pretty interesting show, but I think this season is gonna be pretty wild. Their head coach seems a little bit delusional about his abilities. There's a scene where he sorta asks his assistants for input and he pretty much just shuts them all down and says "I'm in this chair. Y'all don't understand." The Browns have one won game in two seasons under him.
But then his mom also dies in the episode, so you really want to like him and you feel for him.
It's really crazy because they're trying to turn a culture around that is so rotten and has been for so long. I'm rarely motivated to follow a team into the regular season but this time I might just because they've been so bad and it's really a window into that.
And just any time they make cuts it's really entertaining. I'd give just this episode a shot if you have the free time.

Apparently they were filming Corey Coleman the day he was traded to the Bills. Yikes.

When was that? I don't think they've shown that yet.

He was traded last Sunday. I'm not sure what the turnaround time is. Jackson's mom died on the 2nd. Coleman was traded on the 5th. Must be the next episode.

I think the first episode was wrapped up before the trade. I think I did see a preview with an angry Cory Coleman. And Hue does seem like a pushover when questioned by his staff about letting second string players skip practice. I just hope Dez gets added to the roster soon to add some spice to the season. Hard Knocks is a really well produced show. It’s made me a fan of players I wouldn’t have been otherwise and made me dislike a few coaches like Bill O’Brien.

It was just O’Brien’s personality. I remember one specific moment, when making a cut, telling a player who had performed well that he wasn’t good enough for his team instead of just emphasizing the depth they had at that position. There were other things I don’t remember now. He just seemed like an a-hole to me, but most coaches probably are. Unless they’re Dick Vermeil or Tony Dungy.
People are sleeping on Cowboys Rookie WR Gallup. Dude looked ready to earn his star last night. I like our WR core and even though we dont have an obvious #1 doesnt mean no one will become that. We know what Beasley and TWill can do. Austin will be a Tyreke Hill-type. Sorta know what Hurns is like. But Gallup’s a mystery.

Do you feel like Las Vegas is also sleeping on the Cowboys with over/under wins for the 2018 season set at 8.5? As it stands now in your division, Giants are 7, Redskins are 7 and Eagles are 10.5.

Ya never know with the East. Our first team looked good in those two series last night. I think they could go anywhere from a Garrett-traditional 8-8 again by having a tough time vs rivals but could also even go to at least 11-5 if 1. Kris Richard really is as hype as a defensive coach as they say he is, 2. Dak makes more 2016-type throws like he did against the Niners and 3. Zeke keeps eating. Only way we are under .500 is if we get 2017 Dak, the defense flops, and injuries.
