After Tool failed to sell out their day in 2017 I can't see the Foo Fighters doing a lot better (particularly since they're playing 3 area dates this summer and new album tanked).

Foo Fighters are 100x more popular than Tool in the current market
Did the new Foo album really tank? I enjoyed it. In the age of streaming, how do we even measure these metrics honestly? You can point to Arctic Monkeys breaking some vinyl records but those are still extremely low numbers.

Cant see the Foo Fighters fans coming out for the rest of the Gov Ball card when they could see them somewhere else pretty easily less than 12 months before/after

Nearly every band that plays NYC festivals will most likely play NYC as well at some point on their tour. It’s not new or weird.

I get that but my point is that the Foo Fighters fans probably wont turn out. The Jack White fans largely didnt

Dave Grohl is a much bigger star than Jack White. Kids know Foo Fighter songs. Kids don't know Jack White largely and if they make the connection that he's the guy from the White Stripes, still only some make the Seven Nation Army Comparison.
Foo Fighters would have a huge crowd in the same way that RHCP has a huge crowd at Meadows.
yes, and probably a much higher booking fee too. Im just saying I dont think Foo makes sense for this fest
I disagree. While I’m not a big fan, Foo Fighters are one of the smartest and most sure-thing bookings for any fest right now.
I think thats easy for us to say when we dont know what their fee is. Based on the venues (baseball stadiums and football stadiums) that the Foo play, I have to imagine that their fee is pretty much the same as Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, etc.

They aren’t playing football stadiums, their current tour is all arenas with an occasional baseball venue.

It would all be about expectations for the band. If GB wants to keep booking rock acts even though they won’t be the biggest draws right now (which they definitely should imo), then Foo Fighters seem like one of the best case scenario headliners. If FF wanted to do it, it would have to be because they want exposure to a different audience segment (both at the fest and through the free marketing and SEO that go along with being on the Gov Ball lineup). If FF just wants to play NYC and put on a good show for their loyal fans, then maybe this isn’t the spot.

11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
I think unless VW's next album is a big time success than the days of them being Top 3 at something like this are over, even in NYC. The mid-2000's indie nostalgia seems to be fading and not connecting with kids. I would even say that Gov Ball would be apprehensive to book Arcade Fire at this point.

Man, I would love to see FF. I just don’t know if they’ll be active in 2019 and if they’d be willing to do a one-off show. Now, maybe you add in Firefly too since Grohl has a vacation home in Rehoboth then I see it happening.
