The original tour announcement had one night in Detroit, and they expanded to two because of demand for the first one (who does multiple nights in Detroit?). Two shows in Boston is now three. Four nights in New York got bumped to 7.
The new shows aren’t selling as well as the original dates, but I don’t think they’re disappointed in how the tour is selling overall.
That whole "added dates" stuff is a marketing gimmic. He was always going to do however many nights they announce later. For instance, the Detroit shows neither are sold out, and resale in the cheaper sections that are sold out are essentially at face value.
The first show in Detroit has maybe 100 tickets left. Ya, those extra shows were planned all along, but if it wasn’t selling well, they wouldn’t have actually announced them. And I also think artists selling enough tickets to their shows that people don’t have to buy them at a higher price on the secondary is a good thing.
Anyway, seven nights in New York. Drake is doing fine.

7 arena shows in NYC....at what point does he just graduate to football/baseball stadiums? I would assume he'd make more money with 3 stadium shows instead of 7 arena shows.

More opportunity to sell VIP seats in arenas due to their smaller size.

I 've long thought as soon as he and The Weeknd decide to tour together it'll be at a stadium

Im not sure there has been a full length country wide Stadium tour for any rap artist yet. Jay Z has done some stadiums but he was in a coheadling spot for the Legends of the Summer tour and the On the Run tour, but I dont think any rapper has done a stadium tour
I wasn’t kidding actually. They expected far more sales, even with the high prices. Especially with Migos as the opener. They’re papering them a decent amount as well already.
No music outside of Springsteen and U2 translates well to stadiums
I’m not even getting into this one.
I really dont think that there are any artists outside of U2 that really work to be creative and make an 80,000 seat football/soccer/baseball stadium immersive for everyone in the audience. 360 tour was immersive and the screen for Joshua Tree was pretty amazing too.
I didnt know Waters did The Wall in stadiums, it was in an arena in DC. Yankee stadium I'd assume? But yeah, I have to imagine that Wall would have been even better in a Stadium, thats true

I'm in love with this new The 1975 single "Love It If We Made It." Their last album cycle they did Barclays and Madison Square Garden. I think they could totally be a Govball headliner.
Throw Arctic Monkeys into consideration to close the Honda stage if they bother to do another North America run. Not sure there's enough demand for them to visit the city again on their own.

They’ll definitely be doing another NA run next year. They haven’t hit Denver, Florida, Philly, etc.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

They're definitely too big for Honda, they'd close the main stage. I also think we should expect Death Cab for Cutie to come back and close the Honda stage. Their set in 2016 got cancelled because of the rain, and their upcoming fall tour is only hitting Kings Theater (a big step down from MSG).

Did Death Cab even sell out MSG in 2015? Booking that venue can be more of a status thing, rather than a reflection of how many tickets acts can actually sell.

Yeah good point. If Phoenix and Jack White can close the main stage, AM definitely can. I'm hoping DCFC comes back as well as I'm not sure I can make either King's Theater night. Feel like Florence & The Machine is also a potential alt/indie headliner in 2019 as well though it seems like her Barclays show is struggling ticket sales wise.

I think if they break into the Top 40 pop radio format here they can definitely be a festival headliner.

Lmao. I went to Frank's day which, I gotta say Solange into Frank was the best three hours I had at any festival last year. If by some miracle he drops an actual body of work this year and going off the Founders AMA where they said they missed on Frank due to Pano, I can see them bringing him in if he's agreeable to it. Kevin Parker said Tame should have new music next year so I can see them doing a few summer fests with a new show before a fall tour. And it's just a weird hunch with Parcels already seemingly booked for 2019. For me, those three would make a top line I'd fuck with the most

GovBall definitely needs a female headliner next year. There are many, many (many) things GovBall did better than Pano this year, but gender diversity in the lineup was not one of them. Not that it was *bad*, per se...but they have work to do.
