Why? Shes killing it; and shes from NYC. Seems like a slam dunk.
Booking her, yes. But she's got one album and barely any history as a live performer. I don't see her being able to put on a satisfying headlining show.
Maybe not a mistake from a ticket sales standpoint, but in terms of putting together a laudable lineup I'd say it's not a good look.

Chance had three mix tapes when he headlined. Cardi has one album and two mixtapes and has sold a ton. Plus home town cred.

Well I guess I'll be looking forward to her DJ blasting garbage for the first 40 minutes of her big headlining set

I'd super sign up for a Rihanna • Cardi • AM top line. Please get Rihanna
And not for nothin, but Bardi did kill at Coachella... pregnant. She's fully capable of delivering. I think her opening sets for Bruno Mars this fall are gonna have a main event feel to it. I think a lot of people are gonna be showing up early to watch her. If she does Gov Ball she may just as well end up subbing but I wouldn't blame them for promoting her straight to closer with the year and a half she's been on fire culminating in a hometown show, especially with Randall's being a stones throw from the BX
Kanye West- twenty one pilots- Vampire Weekend- Disclosure
Maybe they’ll give them a headlining set because it is their hometown, but I don’t see VW having the drawing power to pull it off anymore, especially in a top 3. Maybe I’m underestimating their NYC fans, but I feel like they would be better off as a #4.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

Thinking Disclosure and VW being the Phoenix and Gambino from 2017
Are the Raccoons really at the headliner point of their career though? I mean they're New York legends, but the best we could hope for is either closing the Honda Stage or getting the Sundown Set on Main Stage.
If the Raccoons get top billing at Gov Ball 2019, Founders are digging through the trash for headliners at this point.

I think he was kidding, most of Drake's shows look to be sold out. Probably referring to how hard of a time Taylor Swift has had moving tickets top her stadium tour, groupons have been available in most markets.

Nah its actually not selling well. Probably 35-40% of the arena in DC is unsold.
For the prices and the number of shows in each city, Drake’s tour is selling okay.
maybe. I think the fact that he has Migos who could headline Sheds on their own as an opener and its still this empty is a bad sign. just wait until twenty one pilots goes completely onsale tomorrow.

Drake wouldn't be the first big act this year to be selling less than well, but that could be part of Ticketmaster/Live Nation's dynamic pricing strategy. Because if they make just as much money at the end of the day despite not selling out, they won't care.

The 4th MSG show was probably unnecessary but his NYC shows (where this festival is) is certainly selling more than okay

The original tour announcement had one night in Detroit, and they expanded to two because of demand for the first one (who does multiple nights in Detroit?). Two shows in Boston is now three. Four nights in New York got bumped to 7.
The new shows aren’t selling as well as the original dates, but I don’t think they’re disappointed in how the tour is selling overall.

Also to consider: the marginal costs of adding additional dates in the same venues are much lower than putting up a show elsewhere, so they can still make a profit if those extra shows do not sell out.

That whole "added dates" stuff is a marketing gimmic. He was always going to do however many nights they announce later. For instance, the Detroit shows neither are sold out, and resale in the cheaper sections that are sold out are essentially at face value.

I don't think these 21P shows will have any issues selling.

thats my point. just trying to make sure everyone is prepared for them as a gov ball headliner next year.
