One thing we might not be taking into account is that the new-ish radio station Alt 92.3 could be doing one of those summer radio shows at Jones Beach and The 1975 is playing that.
Doubt that's the case. With those radio shows there's never a radius clause. In fact artists get paid next to nothing for those shows, it's really just supposed to be an opportunity for promotion for the tour they're gearing up for. That's why whenever you go to one of those shows there's never really any stage production.
I remember I went to 92.3's Dysfunctional Family Picnic at Jones Beach in 2001 and Blink 182 was one of the headliners. 3 weeks later they were back at Jones Beach for 2 sold out shows. And in 2016 I went to KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas which Kings of Leon were headlining, and they came back to the same venue a month later for their own headlining show.
But I have missed those summer rock radio shows so now you've got me all excited it's coming back lol
Ah I went to that DFP (as well as all of them for that matter). I remember STP stealing the show with a quick 5-song set and the general crowd being a bit underwhelmed by Jane's Addiction. Was that Blink tour with New Found Glory AND Sum 41? Also, did you fly to LA just for the KROQ Acoustic CHristmas? Haha.
I have no idea what the radius clause is for these things. I imagine if it's a guaranteed sellout (like all the KROQ events are), it's not an issue. Alt 92.3 doesn't have the brand recognition that other stations do so if they put on event, I assume a radius clause will be implemented. I've also done some reading up on these radio events and, as it turns out, bands DO get paid though not always their normal fee. Usually the station makes money on the show by selling sponsorships and partners with a promoter to pay the bands.
He does? I'm looking at the tour dates right now, and I see a "Home For the Holidays" NYC date on 12/08. And the other dates I'm seeing only extend until February. Honestly, I don't think this tells us much either way, at this point. Doesn't mean he won't be there - I just don't know that you can interpret anything from the dates we currently know.

Haha yeah I went to DFP 5, 6, 7 & 8. I would look forward to it all year! For DFP5 I remember everyone in our section booing Blink while me and my 2 friends who losing our shit wearing dickies shorts and hurley tees. STP also killed it. 17 years ago and I still remember that set so well. I also remember that awful green glow in the dark suit Perry wore for Jane's closing set. And then of course I went to that Blink show weeks later.....if I'm remembering correctly it was New Found Glory and The Living End opening. And no I didnt fly out to LA for the show.....I ended up living in LA for like 16 months. Almost Acoustic Christmas was on the top of my bucket list while I was out there.
Getting (sort of) back to The 1975, a band that they had a lot of influence on and helped produce called Pale Waves is great and playing the Music Hall on 11/12. Sadly, the show must have been selling poorly since it was previously taking place at Brooklyn Steel but they (Pale Waves) are scheduled to open for The 1975 on their US tour so they might also be playing the Ball.
I really liked all the Pale Waves singles, but thought the album kinda dragged. Still have some fun songs, would love to see them on the bill.
Yeah, probably shouldn't have been 14 tracks but I guess they didn't want to re-use stuff from the EP which I felt had a lot of better material. Nonetheless, they're a new band so still time to grow. In terms of anticipated debuts by new hyped bands, I enjoy the Pale Waves record more than Greta Van Fleet's full length.
Speaking of repeats, anyone else hoping for Tame Impala to show up?
Yes but only if they make a comment along the lines of how glad they are to be back after headlining the same Island two years ago.
Feel like Tame Impala is the perfect band for Forest Hills next summer. Unless they go big and try to do MSG and Barclays with support from someone like a Courtney Barnett.

Maybe Tame Impala could pull a 2017 Chance the Rapper.

Finally checking these guys out. I kind of dig it, so far - CHVRCHES meets the Cure. Seems like good fodder for an early afternoon slot, especially given the 1975 connection.

I just realized that they started dropping lineup clues for this year on December 1st of last year, which means we could be just about a month away from starting to get a real picture of what the lineup is going to be. Time flies.
