He's the only artist I truly want to see high up on posters. Def Jam needs to throw all their resources behind this man; just an insane talent. If he's here he has to close Honda, or sub the main
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
Lmao I like that The 1975 are the only act high on the poster who we have any kind of "confirmation" of being here, and the only real thing we have to discuss for now is the stage they would play and the time they would go on. If they do drop the follow-up album in March, I think they close the main on Friday. If it's delayed, they'll close Honda or sub the main
I don't care if they drop 7 albums this Spring...if in January Gov Ball plans to have The 1975 close a stage while they are 7th on Hangouts lineup that's a poor, cheap look.
Govball had Phoenix at Number 2 (or was it 3) in 2017, and the next year Phoenix was billed at number 8 for some first year festival in Denver (Grandoozy). Also I remember a lot of festivals in 2017 having The xx and Lorde headline while other fests like Bonnaroo had them in the 9th or 10th slot. Bon Iver is another odd booking that sometimes gets top line, and will then also get put on the 3rd line at another fest in the same year. Can also factor in the fact that The 1975 are probably much more popular in New York City than in Alabama.
I'm sure that they aren't headlining at this point, which kinda bums me out cuz I feel like they deserve the promotion.....and the music industry is running dry on new rock & roll acts that can close out festivals. Still, I wouldn't be too shocked if they are placed at #3.
It's just weird to me that so many people are trying to dismiss them as being headliners, but talk like Vampire Weekend and Tame Impala somehow are more likely.
The 1975 sold out MSG in July of last year so it's not unreasonable to have them close out a stage if both Phoenix and Jack White have done so recently.

Not trying to be an ass i keep following this thread in hopes of making it this year or next ans bejng from the south near hangout which lineup is terrible. But anyways yeah why do y’all keep hyping the 1975 up really haven’t heard much from them or even knew they had music since chocolate. Also whether you like Jack White or not he headlines because he’s one of the biggest artist there is not just like he recently came out so I’ve been very lost on that comparison.

Jack White is far from being one of the biggest artists there is...

They are all over my social media feed today with various pieces of press and reviews of the new album which, I realize, has more to do with FB's algorithm than their popularity but they are DEFINITELY much more popular than they were in 2014. They played Barclays in 2016 and MSG in 2017 and their current tour has them doing arenas/ampitheaters across the country.
Love Jack White but has popularity has definitely waned in the past 3-4 years. I don't see him being able to fill arenas across the country.
The 1975 are way more popular than Jack White solo has even been. The album sales, venue sizes and song charts back that.
Also, has anyone listened to their new album today? I Always Wanna Die might be one of my favorite songs this year.
Just finished it. It probably could've been pared down a bit but it's best moments are fantastic. Really dug I Like America & America Likes Me
Man, I have such mixed feelings about this record. The first two songs (not counting "The 1975") are built on such great hooks, but I feel like they only have two gears and I kept waiting for them to hit the third. I love a song built around one line as much as the next guy, but you gotta go somewhere with it. "Love It If We Made It" kinda middled for me on first listen, but it's grown on me a lot. "I Like America & America Likes Me" is great, but I also think Justin Vernon oughta sue, it's such a bite of his style. "The Man Who Fell in Love With a Robot" is like a weak "Fitter Happier" impression. But then there's "I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)," which sounds like peak Britpop from back in the very early Radiohead/Oasis/Blur days...it's my favorite song on the album by far.
I dunno. This thing is all over the place. I don't feel like it's deserving of the fawning press it's getting - it's ambitious as hell, but has so many ups and downs, and I'm not about giving points for effort. Still, it's certainly my favorite thing this band has done, for sure, and has some really great moments.
As a moderate fan of The 1975, I hated the album. Honestly shocked P4K thought so highly of it.
Finally ! I just don’t get the love for this album...Bon Iver comparisons? I don’t know what album those reviewers are listening to...this sounds like every other over produced pop rock radio friendly album created to draw in the teenage girl crowd

Dis not realize how many people were now huge fans of the 1975. Not hating on them was literally saying i had no clue had put out music so didn’t get where all the headlining and buzz was coming from. Saw them at big ticket fest in Jacksonville in 13 and met the lead singer cool dude but the music reminded me of a pop act for teenage girls honestly. But did just listen to first half of the album and not bad at all so far. I still will say Jack White has a legacy of music from solo to white stripes, raconteurs, and the dead weather since early 2000’s so they don’t have the catalog or time as Jack White who does constantly headline fest and has for years now.

I Like America is a Bon Iver borrow, How to Draw is a Radiohead borrow, and I Always Wanna Die sounds like Vapour Trail by Ride. But I don't really mind because all 3 are good. And the 4 singles are damn good, and sound like 1975 songs. And the remaining ones are pretty sweet ballads.
I just kind of like a rock band really going for it and trying to be big in 2018. If their influences are clearly Bon Iver and Radiohead that's not bad. I'm a bit tired of knocking down any rock band that tries to appeal to more than the P4K/indie crowd.
The 1975 can and should be top 3 at any festival this summer. I’m very surprised at their Hangout billing, especially considering the rest of that lineup.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Hangout's billing should've been something like Travis - VW - 1975 - Cardi - Kygo - Khalid - Lumineers
I really don’t understand why people think The 1975 are a headliner type draw. Jack White sells out majority of his tour dates, Multipe songs regularly play on rock radio, and does this in the states and overseas. The 1975 last tour didn’t sell out and this current one isn’t looking great atm, Are headlining their first fest ever(r&l), and barely get prime time radio airtime in major markets. I think they are right where they belong on the Hangout fest lineup as a solid second line act.

Im def with you on bands really trying to mix it up and try something big...i def have no problem w anyone trying to emulate Radiohead or Bon Iver...im just saying i dont hear that when i listen to this album

P.S. the new album isn’t doing it for me either.
So glad to see someone else say it too so that I’m not living in the twilight zone here

You can't compare Jack's tour and theirs. Jack White only plays small theaters....his entire solo career he only tried doing arena dates twice (Madison Square Garden and Bridgestone Arena) and neither sold out. The 1975 do arenas on most of their dates, at least in the bigger cities. And The 1975 have way more songs charting on the radio than Jack White has.
I absolutely love Jack White, but I personally think he's the least interesting headliner booking for the past few years. He only gets those Top 3 spots solely because of his legacy, not because of his draw.
