Courtney Barnett would be cool but will draw a small crowd based on how Gov Ball's demographics are trending.
Then she'll either close the Bacardi Stage or play one of the last two sets on Honda. Founders like to book counter-programming to the Top 40 acts that sell most of their tickets. Most of the attendees on Saturday this year went to see Travis Scott, but we had a lot of gushing on this board about the Gaslight Anthem set at the same time.

It me!
Yeah, the Gaslight set was pretty poorly attended. But amazing.
If GovBall follows the same kind of diverse programming pattern they did last year (and they assured me in response to a post-festival e-mail I sent them last year begging them to keep booking rock acts that they would, so take that with whatever grain of salt it's worth), I could definitely see Courtney fitting. And she might draw better than you think. It really depends. For example, last year, a lot of the rock acts didn't draw, but sets like the Menzingers and Third Eye Blind, for example, were more packed than I expected. You never know who's going to unexpectedly resonate with the GovBall crowd.

I still can't believe how big of a crowd Third Eye Blind can draw more than two decades since their hit debut album.

Also, after reading about Kanye's verse on XXXTentacion's new album...seriously, fuck that guy. I want him nowhere near this festival. I'm sure I'm in the minority, here, but him being on the bill - either on his own or with KSG - would really make me think twice about even coming on the day he'd be performing.
From the Coachella boards: "For what it's worth my industry friend felt way more confident about Childish playing and JT being out at this point. No clue who the replacement would be though. Kids See Ghost is also a possibility (Kanye solo is not happening), but that may just be for Gov Ball"

GODDAMNIT.
What is it about this guy? He's not even that great an MC, especially these days. It's a rough look for a festival that's never had a female headliner to book the guy who just dropped a verse shitting all over women who come forward with allegations of sexual and domestic abuse.

Definitely not alone here. I'm so fucking done with Kanye. And this is coming from a former massive fan. I didn't even need this new verse to make up my mind, he's just proven over and over again that he is a total prick, constantly siding and sympathizing with abusers. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth that festivals are actually planning to book him after everything that happened in 2018. And like they can't even argue "it's just business," since from a business standpoint Kanye is so past his peak commercially and creatively, and there are sooooo many other headline caliber acts that can draw the same sized crowd for less money.
Looks like Gov Ball missed out on Cardi. Shes doing Primavera sound
"Missed out"
Yeah - I think Cardi is talented and fun but she's exploded to a point where she'd for sure headline when you factor in the hometown nonsense. Just not enough material - a 45 minute headlining set is always a let down.
