Popcaan would be amazing, Forever is one of my favorite albums to drop this year. He grew up in Portmore, which looks like where Dream Beach is. Here's hoping. Anyone call the number?

It's a San Diego area code...there's a recording there reading off "Harvard Sentences," which are used to test the quality of phones.
Agree with the whole NYC rock revival being blown wayyyy out of proportion. Meet Me in the Bathroom was a fun read but it definitely glorified that scene to be something way more than it really was. I'm in my 30s and I've lived in NYC my whole life......if anything the emo scene was much more popular in the city during that time.
The emo scene was the BIGGEST thing that most popular media outlets paid minimal attention to. Skate & Surf, Bamboozle did huge numbers and the marquee bands of that era played big rooms across the country/globe. Major media outlets like SPIN initially scoffed but then finally gave in and put the likes of Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance on the cover multiple times.
Exactly! It's funny how the media tries to make it sound like The Strokes were the biggest band in the early aughts, but the year of their height they played Roseland Ballroom, the same venue I saw The Starting Line sell out later that year.

The overhyping of the impact of those bands is ridiculous and has always annoyed me because it shows how self-absorbed and delusional most publications are when it comes to what they think is shaping the culture.
Ask the average person, I’d put money on them not even knowing who The Strokes are, sans Reptilia possibly.

I'd have to disagree from my experience. Those bands were huge when I was in high school in the early aughts here in Nashville. Nearly what everyone listened to.

The Strokes are reportedly planning their "global comeback" for 2019. Too soon for them to come back? Personally I really hope they're not here. Stop playing Govball and do a proper show at MSG.

The Consequence of Sound article says that Bilbao BBK will kick things off, and that's not until July, so it would seem that means they're not on the table. That said, there's enough of a connection with this festival that I could see them pulling a special exception. So, I don't know - I'd say 70-30 against, right now, based on what I'm reading.

we sure that Gov Ball would want them back?

The Strokes set, without any real new music of note, was absolutely packed in 2016.
While I agree that nationally these acts don't have the same draw - the Strokes and LCD Soundsystem will always be a hit at an NYC fest. The YYY's are not the same so please don't use their attendance last year as a marker.

There were some reports that The Strokes replaced LCD when LCD signed a deal with Goldenvoice to do Coachella & Panorama.
Caved and bought a 3-day VIP pass since it was discounted today. Let's hope this lineup doesn't dissapoint me as it will likely be my last year doing all 3 days.

I am so on the edge of doing this, myself. I've never gone VIP, and with the discount, the installment plan, and likely no Panorama this year, it's within reason, financially-speaking.
Well I guess with no more clues Ill start to put together some final guesses on top 6 in no particular order: Florence - Kids See Ghosts - The 1975 - Vampire Weekend - (One of those EDM/rap headliners from Firefly) - Arctic Monkey (more of a hope than a guess)

Out of curiosity, is there anything that would rule Rihanna out of possibly being one of the headliners? I haven't seen her mentioned much in speculation, so I'm not sure if I'm missing something. I could see a top 3 of Florence - Kids See Ghosts - Rihanna.

Doesn't look like she's touring around that time.
She’s been prepping her social media for a new release (taking down old Anti- art and whatnot). She could easily still announce summer dates, I think the bigger issue is that she hasn’t done the big name fests before, so not much sense mocking her until she does.

bigger concern I think is that she would do festivals after she has hit every city, not before

I guess the biggest thing I'm struggling with is that third headliner slot. We know Florence is in, and that Kids See Ghosts is likely. So...who rounds out the top three? There are a couple of big rock names out there, still (VW, Foos, Metallica, the Cure...Pearl Jam, although I know that last one is just my eternal pipe dream), but doubling up on rock (assuming we put Florence in the "rock" category...rock-esque?) would seem like a weird move in the current industry landscape. Last year, they went two for three on hip-hop, but who's left and available in the hip-hop landscape that could work (again, assuming we're looking at Kids See Ghosts as a headliner)? About the only two I can think of right now are Drake and Kendrick, but there's been no indication that either of them are going to be doing the circuit this year. It's entirely possible there's someone I'm missing, though.
So, anyway, that's kind of why I thought of Rihanna. Stylistically, it creates a mix of headliners (pop-rock/hip-hop/R&B) while still laying into what's more popular with general audiences. I mean, there's also the possibility they bring in an EDM headliner, I suppose, but they haven't had one since 2015, and it's not like that genre is exploding, these days.

I dunno. Stumped = me.
Foo Fighters would be amazing, plus they are doing a lot of festivals this summer so it's not that crazy a thought. Also why hasn't anyone mentioned Gambino? He did MSG twice in September, but he still needs to put out that album. And when he does I'd imagine he'd just headline festivals instead of returning to the arenas he was just at a year prior.
Would it be to early for Odesza to play even though they were at Pano this year? I also have no idea if they'll he active next year.
Well, from the looks of it based on the social media clues that were put out last week, Rex Orange County is playing even though he played Panorama this year. Which isn't to say anything else indicates Odesza will be at GovBall - just that playing Pano 2018 doesn't automatically rule an artist out.

They're still touring the same set/production that they debuted at Coachella last year. I'm sure they'll be active this summer bc a lot of EDM fans don't seem to mind seeing the same set numerous times at different festivals.
I was pindering this exact same top 3 today. Would make sense since VW is skirting around the area . Maybe it's just me but it seems a little bland with both Flo and VW (even though I really like both). I feel it's more likely to be an electronic act if Gov Ball truly did book KSG. "Wild Card" IMO would be some sort of big/legacy act. But, that seems unlikely.
