Ouch. This is so overwhelming to me. I’m assuming Kanye in one form or the other dropped. I might be out of touch but is Florence the biggest headliner. I mean she just toured for the past year around an album this is her second go round and she’s your number 1. I might play it like panorama and wait for the secondary market to drop to very cheap prices. Thats my assumption will happen with his lineup if not no guilt in skipping. What is happening wih Vampire Weekend ? I kind of figured the Kanye drop but not having vampire weekend after firefly got them as a sub is just weird. Might have to turn my sights to shaky knees
Yeah, this is gonna be another year where everyone questions the Coachella lineup, looks back on the rest of the American fest lineups, and goes "Oh...."
Strokes aren’t happening, their first show back is in July
I don't have the faintest idea who's headlining Gov Ball, but I think people are making way too much of promotional puffery from some rando in Spain that may be in translation.
Bilbao BBK Live isn't a "rando", given that it's been active since 2006. Also CoS spoke with a representative of the band who confirmed the "kick off their global comeback tour" statement.
But hey, great work.
I was referring to whoever wrote the press release, and let's just say that Consequence of Sound isn't the New York Times.
Was expecting much more following the death of Panorama. Midcard is slightly deeper and there are slightly more unique electronic acts than GovBall typically has, but the top line acts continue to decline.
I appreciate that GovBall tries to elevate acts into top billers, but that Friday top line or two is one of the weakest they've had in a long time. If you add The Strokes to that day and add another headliner on Sunday it's slightly more palatable but not much.

Boston Calling and Osheaga were pretty great last year but Im thinking the only decent big North American lineup besides Coachella will be Osheaga this year.
I know things seem bleak but are we sure Pano isn’t coming back?
Something has to give with this lineup. Either Pano is back or those Woodstock events are gonna be a lot better than we thought
Not so sure....maybe well have a better idea once bonaroo is out but based off the 4 fests so far (firefly, hangout, coachella, gov ball) i honestly could not put togethet a three day fest id want to attend

Wow this is really bad. I live 20 minutes away and I have no desire to go at all.
I'm happy that they don't have Kanye, but do they honestly think Tyler is a headliner? Less than a year ago he was on a co-headlining tour with Vince Staples, who is billed MUCH lower on this bill, and it's not like Tyler has gotten any more popular since then.
Also, give it a fucking break with The Strokes. Look, I love the Strokes. But they haven't put out an album in 8 years (haven't put out a good album in like 12 years). This will be their 3rd time headlining the fest, and it'll be the same minimal stage setup and almost identical set list. If they really wanna do a show in NYC let them do MSG of Forest Hills. I'm not paying $125 and dealing with govball madness just to see them.

They are probably wisely doing 2 nights at Forest Hills. Which is a far better plan than closing the Honda stage to a decent sized crowd.

Doesn't Lil Wayne hate playing in New York and just no show at Panorama last year? Why the F would Founders risk that booking, especially on a day that is already very light at the top.

the longer this wait for VW's album and tour is, the more I think that the venues they end up playing will be larger than we think

Or maybe by being the default only fest in the city without direct competition they didn't feel the need to try very hard. Monopolies rule!
Dont think so. They arent only competing with other festivals but other live music as a whole, and this lineup doesnt compete well with the glut of NYC live shows.

Not really sure what people were expecting from this lineup. There aren’t a ton of quality acts touring this year that would have dramatically improved the lineup.

Agreed. Considering what is available the undercard is surprisingly solid. The headliners are weak, subs are ok. Not worth whatever they charge for 3 days, but that's the festival landscape today.

I dunno. Every year I’ve gone, there have been at least a couple of names that really blew my hair back. Something that felt, for lack of a better way of putting it, special. This year, absolutely nothing in the lineup jumps out at me that way. Most all of the big names have been around, recently. There’s just no real wow factor, for me, and there has been in every one of the past five lineups before this, so it feels like something of a letdown.
