If you add a better headliner to Friday (which seems we generally agree was probably KSG/Kanye originally), this line-up looks really solid (and features some of the undercard highlights from Coachella). If they fix that, I'd be in for a 3-day.
Here's a theory: The original lineup had the Strokes headlining on Friday, and either Kanye or KSG headlining on Sunday, with the Voidz on the undercard on Sunday. This would explain why Friday features an undercard with rock bands like Deal Casino, Hundredth, Miles Kane, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, and Hippo Campus, while Sunday is heavily skewed hip-hop.
Then, the Kanye drama happens, and GovBall can't find a big enough headliner to replace him/KSG. They don't want to have their least headliner-y act capping off the last day of the festival, so they switch the Strokes to Sunday and stick Tyler on Friday.
This may be me being waaaay too Galaxy Brain about all this, but I'm just trying to come up with some explanation for there being just one other artist on Sunday with a remotely similar sound to that of the Strokes while it's full of rap acts, while Tyler is headlining a day with a bunch of rock bands on the bill.
I'm sure Kanye was supposed to headline Friday, he dropped and they just pocketed the $3 million (or whatever) and think they'd built up the brand's rep enough that the day can survive on it's current lineup. Reinvest a lot of that Kanye money in The Meadows which needs to have a huge lineup for it's relaunch and comes with a lot more risk.
Plus I don't think Casablancas would want to play twice on one day. They probably think The Strokes have the NYC fanbase to show up regardless of the rest of Sunday.

Easy enough to swap the Voidz to Friday.
I dunno. Like I said, I'm probably overthinking it. You could totally be right. I just don't get the logic behind either Friday (a bunch of guitar bands on a day with hip-hop headliner and main stage sub) or Sunday (a bunch of rappers on a day with an indie rock headliner).
I like to think they were promoting Tyler from the jump. There are rock acts on the lower lines to support The Strokes as a headliner but from the middle on up, it gets real hip hop and R&B heavy. My guess: the have The Voidz scheduled anyway, Kanye says "Give me my stage or give me death," Founders texts Julian, "We'll give you x amount to get the boys back together a month early"
I love a very decent portion of this lineup and if I went I don’t think there would be many slots where I don’t like someone playing. My biggest problem is I’ve seen most artists including 8 of the top 9 and Lil Wayne being the only one I haven’t seen is not moving the needle for me at all. Tyler and SZA seem kinda played out as well but hey I guess there are worse artists to play out. I’ve noticed that the undercards have been pretty decent at all fests not named Hangout Fest and it’s just pretty uninspiring upper cards that are leaving me wanting more. Or maybe I just need to take a festival break for a few years and let some other artists rise up
Thinking this is where I’m headed this summer. Any suggestions on places to stay? Got a nice AirBnb in The Bronx the last time I went in 2016. It was nice and relatively close, but I felt pretty far away from fun shit before/after the fest.

If you're looking to find a relatively cheaper option that still has stuff going on, I can suggest Astoria. Admittedly, I'm biased because I live here, but there's easy access to Randall's, a great food scene, and a sneaky good nightlife unless clubbing is your thing.
Given the current trends and collective disappointment in the quality of lineups this year, I think Gov Ball were smart. The hip-hop heavy undercard could bring in a new crowd and they've got two headliners that'll pull a crowd regardless. As a fan of the Strokes who's never been to Gov ball, their name put it on the top of my list and that was without even looking at a single other name.

-Everyone defending Panorama in 2018
Build a very successful festival, then create a second festival, have the second festival struggle and fail, and then take the lineup strategy from the failed festival and apply it to the successful festival.

Dont know what you are talking about, Panorama in 2018 wasnt that rap heavy at all

Panorama shouldn't have existed in the first place. There was no need for a second festival. I also wouldn't compare the headliners from Panorama in 2018 to Florence and The Strokes. I would certainly prefer there be more indie on the undercard, but it wont stop from going because there are two headliners I would buy a ticket for.
I don't know. The market is oversaturated and it seems like the same people keep popping up over and over on undercards. This seems a bit different. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but id take The Strokes and Florence over any other headlinrs that have been announced this year.
Pano was or was trying to be a more 'artsy' meadows which was already trying to be quite artsy
I'm not sure a festival the inaugural edition of which featured headlining sets from The Weeknd and Kanye West could be considered to be going for an "artsy" vibe.
Not sure if this has been known but this video they posted on their instagram around 8 pm ct orders the lineup like:
The Strokes - Florence & the Machine - Tyler the Creator Nas - SZA - Major Lazer - The 1975 - Lil Wayne - BROCKHAMPTON Gesaffelstein - Jorja Smith - Kacey Musgraves - ZHU - Vince Staples Blood Orange - Lord Huron - Sheck Wes - Beast Coast

Worth noting every 2nd and 3rd artist on each day is announced before lil wayne, meaning he was likely third on his day originally with the billing.
