Man...still can't believe what a bummer this lineup is for me. I think I can maybe squeak out two days but this will likely be the last year. No hard feelings about them leaning into pop/hip-hop/edm as that's where festivals are trending these days but sad I won't have a local festival anymore.

I don't know if you're in the same boat as me, preferred genre-wise, but I really wish someone would launch a rock-focused NYC fest a la Shaky Knees. It'd have to be significantly smaller scale, obviously, but I do think there might be a market, there.
That said, speaking of smaller-scale, keep an eye on OctFest and whether they bring that back. Last year's lineup was great (Vince Staples, Jeff Tweedy, Preoccupations, Vagabon, and Hatchie were highlights of Saturday, with Sunday featuring The Flaming Lips, Yo La Tengo, Nile Rogers & Chic, Hop Along, Girlpool, and No Age), the 21-plus age limit gave it a more mature vibe, and the beer samples included with ticket purchase (only $70-something for a single-day pass) from a bunch of awesome breweries were a nice plus. The weather sucked and getting off Governor's Island was a mess because of it (ferry service got disrupted due to choppy water), but I heard they're looking for a new location, this year.
I mean, my first question would be: Why the pivot away from rock from last year to this year when the genre, while not really relevant commercially, hasn't gotten significantly less relevant over the past 365 days?
Second question would be: Who were the clues pointing toward in the lineup? Sub-question: If the one that was so obviously Rex Orange County wasn't for him, for whom was it?
Third question: Where do I send the flowers and chocolates as thanks for not booking Kanye?

I don't think they'll ever say it, but the YYY's and Gaslight's crowds were so small I think that was the lightbulb that said "hey those expensive rock subheadliners just arent a smart investment anymore"
My questions:
1. Why did you book The Strokes on a day with essentially no other rock music?
2. Lil Wayne isn't a fan of NYC and cancelled his Panorama set hours before he was set to go on. Doesn't that make you nervous and put a lot of risk on the 2nd highest billed artist of that day?
They are being a lot more open than in years past and a little reckless imo
"we looked into his (Wayne) reasoning for skipping out on that other concert thing. they gave us a reasonable response so we booked wayne." jesus they are all extremely petty about Panorama
- Florence and Major Lazer will only overlap "for about 10-15 minutes," so ML isn't playing opposite FATM. Since it's not The 1975, Kacey Musgraves, or Vince Staples, Florence is either going up against Zhu or playing unopposed for the majority of her set.
- Lil Wayne and Tyler on separate stages, but not overlap.
- Beast Coast is one big set featuring everybody, which explains why there are more names on Sunday than the other two days.
- Gesaffelstein closing Honda on Friday.
- King Princess and Clairo playing different stages; no overlap

Shaky Knees is definitely more along the lines of what I like though after looking at Boston Calling, that seems to be more in line with the balance I'd prefer. I was curious about OctFest but that was a bit...too.....highbrow in terms of my tastes but with the right bands booked I'd go. 21+ does sound interesting as well. I think a general interest rock festival would be hard to pull off in the area because so many bands would be hard pressed to turn down big paydays playing their own NYC-area dates but you never know. The Strokes being one of the only rock band son Sun is definitely a weird booking. I really believe Founders thinks they have a much bigger draw then they actually do in 2019. 2010 was the year of "OMG The Strokes are back" and, while I enjoyed the 2 records afterwards, I don't think their cultural impact has grown in the past 3-4 years.
So they said that 3 artists dropped before the lineup came out and essentially said that sunday was supposed to have more rock. Wonder if they will use some of the extra kanye funds on rock on sunday

They also responded to my question about why the Strokes are headlining Sunday with no other rock acts that day than Soccer Mommy by saying there's a reason for it, but one they can't express in a public forum.
I really think that lends credence to the idea that Kanye/KSG was meant to headline Sunday, but then that fell through, so the Strokes got moved from relatively rock-heavy Friday to Sunday (with the Voidz also swapped to Friday) to make up for it and put one of their bigger headlining names as the festival closer.
I think there's no way they're adding significantly more artists to Sunday. Mayyyybe one "surprise guest!" a la Shawn Mendes last year, but nothing significant. Also, I think at least one of the artist that dropped had to be Rex Orange County, because if that clue they posted wasn't for him, I don't even know what.

It was supposed to be Kanye friday from what I've heard
Figured The 1975 would be playing before Florence which is slightly frustrating because that means we won't get the full set they will be playing on their NA tour.

I took their response to your Strokes question as something different. Like they tried to book Vampire Weekend as The Strokes sub but they declined at the last second or Interpol said no...something along those lines.
