They should find another location for this festival. Or they gotta change the dates
There's just not anywhere else in the city they can do it. Central Park is out of the question, Prospect Park won't do festivals of this size any more since GoogaMooga went bad, and the city seems adamant about not holding multi-day events in Corona Park. What options does that leave for something GovBall's size?

I’m not from here so I have no idea about logistics, but are any of the stadiums viable?

Gov Island. Not as big as Randalls, but still quite a lot of space. Or they can change the dates, sometimes in early fall

Oh, absolutely not. If you're talking about difficulty in getting people to and from festival grounds, Governors Island (where GovBall started out, incidentally - hence the name) is worse than Randall's. Literally everyone has to take a ferry to get there. Last year during OctFest, there was some moderately bad weather - just rain and some wind - and it turned getting off the island into a 2-hour wait for a boat.

I know where the name came from but thanks. I must disagree with you though, with good planning, I don’t think transportation would be that difficult

Sorry. Wasn't trying to be a dick. I just don't see how an island to which you have ferry literally everyone is going to be easier than an island that also has bridge and shuttle bus access.

I feel like the problems faced by this festival are the problems that come with throwing an outdoor music festival...it might rain

More an issue with doing any outdoor events now in early June. Majority of Hov Balls have now had some sort of rain issue. I think 2014 and 2012 were the only ones with good weather all the way around.

Governors Island has big issues in getting a normal amount of people off in a timely manner on a nice day, forget about a massive festival crowd in bad weather.
11/28 Raveonettes (Copenhagen, Denmark) 12/4 Interpol 12/14 LCD Soundsystem 12/31 Billy Joel 1/25 The Killers (Las Vegas) 2/12 Jack White 2/25 Father John Misty 3/6 Inhaler 4/10 Franz Ferdinand 4/17 Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds 5/15 Amyl & the Sniffers 5/18 Fontaines D.C. 9/1 Oasis
Nothing is impossible with proper amount of ferries. I'm also not saying it's the best possible option here.
Just have the festival when Meadows used to happen, and it'll all slightly be better. It's clear at this point that when they're having this festival is generally not good weather-wise in NYC.

Having to predict the weather certainly isn't helping anything either. I live in Astoria and there hasn't been a drop of rain here all day, would've been a beautiful day for a festival. But with the threat of having to evacuate people, even if it only is going to rain for an hour or two later on, its amazing that this festival has been able to get people to buy tickets every year since they've had repeated weather cancellations
Just got to the bridge at 125th. Lined up to walk across it. Apparently not letting anyone over yet. Not sure about ferries etc.
While waiting, yesterday’s top 5:
1. Sunflower Bean - great rock show early in the day. When I first heard their music I thought of Fleetwood Mac, but their live show is definitely not that LOL 2. US Girls - loved it 3. Kacey Musgraves - so good, great songs and a big crowd all singing along 4. The 1975 - really a fun show - the singer at least acknowledges his ‘rock and roll’ antics are not exactly new and embraces the silliness. My wife still hates them though. 5. Florence
Update - maybe we are moving across now? Nope. Just random cheering and slight movement signifying nothing. Still waiting to cross.

As an out of state individual, why is Central Park out of the question?

A three day festival with traffic going back and forth between multiple stages causes an enormous amount of wear and tear on the grounds and the city fathers are not going to let its showpiece park get torn up like that. They let Global Citizen do their fest because it's just one day and one stage, so not a lot of people tramping around.

RIP my Sunday. Was really looking forward to Nas, Kaytra, and SZA. Hell of a two days, though. Everyone going tonight have fun, be safe, and hopefully stay dry! I'll be back in 2020
