I'm going to keep holding out hope for Pearl Jam. Founders has always said it's a goal to book them, and the band won't have played NYC in 3 years by the time the 2019 festival rolls around.

Please please pretty please.
I have this weird feeling they would have headlined The Meadows this year.

Who are some undercard acts you guys want to see?
I am pulling for: A$AP Rocky (I feel like hes right on the border of being a headliner at this), Thom Yorke/Aphex Twin (If A$AP or Cardi or someone similar does get the headliner nod, either one would be pretty perfect to close the Honda), Anderson .Paak, Brockhampton, Hiatus Kaiyote, Janelle Monae, Caribou, Duckwrth, Soulwax, FKA Twigs, Death Grips, Q-Tip, Glass Animals, Sylvan LaCue, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Hercules & Love Affair, Car Seat Headrest, Beach Slang, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Princess Nokia, Tennyson, Jamie xx, Elohim, Jaden Smith, Rezz, Jagwar Ma, Noname, CloZee, Superorganism, Vulfpeck, Mura Masa, Lemaitre, Snail Mail, ect.

he is def not close to a headliner for this. he isnt selling at all anymore, and his stuff isnt doing streaming numbers either.

Some undercard hopes for the rock/indie rock team...
Hop Along Lucy Dacus Foxing Snail Mail The Pains of Being Pure at Heart Turnstile Screaming Females Courtney Barnett (since CHVRCHES got the Sunday 2016 do-over this year, it's Courtney's turn next year!) Superchunk Lord Huron Belly (the band) Toad the Wet Sprocket (they'd be great in the Third Eye Blind '90s revivalist slot) Sunflower Bean Wye Oak Big Red Machine (The National's Aaron Dessner, and Justin Vernon) Slowdive Julien Baker Charly Bliss The Hotelier Wolf Parade Savages Sigur Ros (although they'd really have to be either a Honda closer or a sunset set - I can't imagine them playing in broad-ass daylight) My Morning Jacket (aka, Jorge & the Kraken relives his favorite set of GovBall 2015) The Black Angels The Flaming Lips
And, a few personal favorites cross-genre that I'd love to see, but some of which I have a tough time believing I will, because they skew kinda old:
Bjork Janelle Monae (because she should play EVERYTHING) The New Pornographers Jurassic 5 Shearwater The Polyphonic Spree The Afghan Whigs The Mountain Goats Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds Sleater-Kinney Stars Scissor Sisters
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

When ever stats like this come up, I am genuinely curious where someone is tracking these numbers. Does billboard publish running counts of record sales? And what stream metrics do we look at? A$AP only has 4 million monthly listeners less than Travis

I'd be on board, but there's no way there wouldn't be one hip-hop mainstage headliner, right? 2012 was the last time there wasn't. I'd be really surprised if that pattern changed this time around.
Also, is there a reason people aren't kicking around Childish Gambino as a possible headliner? I know he just played GovBall in 2017, but a return as a headliner after two years isn't unprecedented for this festival (see: Strokes, The), it certainly feels like it's high time he's headlining the majors, and he already has the GovBall connection.

I put PJ in there because I feel like next year is the year they are gonna finally get them, but you could flip them for someone like Kanye or Drake.

ONOES. Couldn't we lose Mumford, instead?
Can't have everybody. I have a feeling they will make their Founders debut next year. New music should be coming any week now and they said they have dates booked for '19.

If it's a NYC fest, then Vampire Weekend would headline and not be second line - they already headlined Gov Ball in 2014.
While I would LOVE Pearl Jam, I wouldn't read much into them skipping NYC this year, they have their own concepts when it comes to touring and don't feel the pressure to include cities just because everybody does them. So I wouldn't put down any bet on them for Gov Ball.

I'm reading some great ideas for undercard acts. If Car Seat Headrest, Janelle Monae, and Beach House are still touring next year, I'd love them to see them play on Randall's Island. I have no idea where Bon Iver or Carly Rae Jepsen would sit on the card, but it feels like they already should have played this fest, let's get them here. I'd also enjoy hearing from first timers like Death Grips, Against All Logic, Let's Eat Grandma, JPEGMAFIA, Snail Mail, Carpenter Brut, The Beaches, Blood Orange, Junglepussy, John Jacob Magistery, TOKiMONSTA, Sheer Mag, Kaytranada, Savages, FKA Twigs or Neon Indian. Lastly, it's been a little while since Founders last booked Pretty Lights, let's get them back.
One thing that shocks me every year is how there will be around twenty acts of the sixty-six that I've never even heard of. I never expect to know any of the bottom two lines (this year was an exception as I somehow already knew Lou the Human, ASAP Twelvyy, and the Regrettes), but I read this past year's lineup and I'm like, "Who in the blue heck is Russ?" Not that this is a bad thing, It's good to learn about new music, but it is surprising.

perhaps I am wrong but I cant remember a more crystal clear headliner for this fest than Twenty One Pilots in 2019. Short fall US tour before Europe in Winter/Spring, being back in the US for the festival season. Their tour is Live Nation. They have never played the fest. They kill with the demographic of this fest, teenagers. And lastly, they are also enough "rock" that it will allow Founders to say that they brought back rock headliners

Plenty of rock options besides Pilots I think:
Green Day seems like they are gearing up to tour with their classic albums Foo Fighters Pearl Jam (plz god) Tame Impala has a new album on the way Mumford has a new album Maybe subvert expectations and book something like OG Misfits I am kind of burnt out by them but Red Hot Chili Peppers are working on new music and as we saw last year at Meadows plenty of people still want to see them They got Guns N Roses once before when it was Axl & friends, maybe do it again but with the OGs? (not ideal for me but id take them over Pilots) Maybe the ship has sailed, I guess we will see when the album drops, but Vampire Weekend again in their hometown? Phish just sold out their festival in upstate

Any others?
is this a Nope as in you know they arent booking them, or a personal opinion that my assessment is wrong
