The Cure seems too off kilter for Firefly to me. I don't think they can afford to swing and miss bad with this demo, not in 2020 after ticket sales were pretty bad this year. I think they play it safe with a RHCP or Foo Fighters re-book, with Gambino if he's available and some terrible pop act to round out the top line.
I had a dream last night that I was hanging out with Robert Smith and I kept asking him about what stretches his doctor recommended for his back pain. So I think it's safe to say they're in.
I went to Sasquatch in 2016 when The Cure headlined. I think they were supposed to play for two hours, but at Sasquatch there were other acts on during headliners and Big Grams was playing at another stage. I think it’s safe to say that 75% of the crowd went to Big Grams and The Cure ended early and made comments about how empty the crowd was from what I heard. (I was at big grams). Idk how much pull the band really has for a headliner at firefly
Really doubt Bassnectar plays this. The number of high-level EDM acts they can put into that slot for cheaper is many. Zedd is probably more expensive but also is arguably a bigger draw for their target demo.
Zedd played this year, but I see your point.
My point was they'll pay more for an act like Zedd (straddles EDM and Pop) but Bassnectar's price tag might not be worth it for them considering he doesn't check the 'Pop' box.

I would love to see The Cure and I’m sure the older crowd would too. However, you’re probably right. The younger crowd would relate more to a band like the Foos or RHCP. I would love to see Gambino, but I feel like they might’ve missed their chance. Billie or Lorde would be the perfect pop headliner.

I think a Foo Fighters rebook is imminent. It would be great for ticket sales (I think). That being said I don't understand why they don't go back to the alt rock focus or at least a more balanced lineup. All you have to do is look at history years 1-5 had mostly rock headliners with years 3-5 having a diverse undercard and it sold relatively well then year 6 they shit the bed with Beyonce had a bunch of DJs ticket sales dropped, but they've kept with that mode of mostly DJs and Hip Hop acts. Everything in moderation I really hope they continue the trend this year of starting to rebalance the undercard. Granted this all selfish because I just really want to go back next year.
Foo Fighters - Billie Eilish - Disclosure Gramatik - Of Monsters and Men - Tash Sultana Grouplove - Charli XCX - De La Soul - Snakeships - Cupcakke
Cardi B - Kaskade - Smashing Pumpkins - Anderson Paak Greta Van Fleet - Lizzo - Troyboi 21 Savage - Gary Clark Jr - Rosalia
Tame Impala - The 1975 - Diplo Rezz - Kacey Musgraves - Zhu - Sheck Wes Silversun Pickups - Christine & The Queens - Princess Nokia - K Flay - Ravyn Lenae
Maybe I'm just getting old and am out of touch but to me this is a well balanced lineup that would sell really well IMO

Probably a bit optimistic. Not enough terrible music. Unfortunately the days of more than one rock oriented headliner has probably passed. Unless Firefly comes to terms that shoving rap/pop/edm down our throats just isn't the way to get butts into seats. Probably too late for that.
Also I think Billy has too big of an ego to be anything less than a headliner, even if that wouldn't happen at any major fest. Perhaps if they split the poster up ahead of time he could get onboard with being the second listed act of the day. Still unlikely.

Lana Del Rey just announced west coast tour dates and it looks like it is set up for her to do the rest of the country in the spring/summer. I would definitely put her in the possible category at least.

The Lumineers look to be out. They’ve announced a show at BB&T Pavilion in Camden for June 5th.
In the past that hadn't mattered, or at least completely wiped out the possibility. Florence + The Machine had a BBT show right before Firefly in 2016.

With Boston Calling getting Foo and RHCP I could see this fest getting Foo and Coldplay with Billie as number 3 or 4
I think they'd get one or the other, especially given last year's lineup. It'll probably be Foos and Coldplay will end up touring in Europe at the end of June.

Would not mind a FF or RHCP repeat given how bad our headliners have been recently. I could see CTE headlining this too, or at least in the Vampire Weekend/#2 of the day spot.

That seems likely. CTE is great live, but they don’t have the pull to be top 3, especially for a fest like this where they have struggled with ticket sales. However, like you said, CTE would fit well in that VW spot. This lineup needs to be at least above average in order for this fest to stay afloat.

I think if PATD can headline Cage the Elephant can absolutely headline, at least if they aren't willing to up their game after a poor year (remains to be seen).
