tw12 seems like one of those older guys who tries so hard to be "hip and cool" to fit in with today's youth
Also, no matter what anybody says, Hozier will never be held in the same regard as Jimi Hendrix, whose sound completely changed rock music as everybody knew it - so that's a poor analogy.
I'm more interested in putting "hip and cool" in a time machine and restoring its definition to what it was when I was young.

Growth is a positive personality trait, not a negative. Embrace it.
Every year I tell myself I need to make it to NFF for at least a day, and every year I don't do it because it seems logistically difficult and pretty expensive. What's the "cheapest" place to stay within a reasonable distance from the fest? Newport airbnbs and hotels in the middle of summer (nevermind Folk weekend) are not cheap. Is it easy to get an Uber around there? When I almost bought tickets this year, I had considered doing the ferry to/from Providence, but I'd want to catch aftershows which run too late. I understand it's ridiculous to start planning for next year when this year hasn't happened yet, but any advice is appreciated.
Your cheapest bet is to score a room at the Motel 6 or Rodeway Inn in Middleton and walk to the ferry(about a mile) or bike in to the festival. I hear there are some camping options as well, but I know nothing of them.
Pickens just added a encore screening of the Trey movie. Between Me and My Mind. Sunday the 28th. The day he will be in Newport. I’m sure that was the inspiration for that. Maybe he pops in and plays a few...

one of these years I'm going to stop going to the festival and just come down for the aftershows. save my energy and camp out early for the best spots.

That documentary is wonderful and it was very insightful about Trey’s songwriting process with his latest (and most personal) album/project Ghosts of the Forest. I had the opportunity to see it last Wednesday and was not disappointed
Ghosts of the Forest is a great album and I highly recommend checking it out to anyone planning on seeing his set on Sunday! He wrote it in honor of one of his best friends who lost his battle to cancer, so the album approaches the subject of death and what happens thereafter
Do you think they might be recording this set and making a documentary out of it? Could be kind of cool with the right star power, the message behind the set, and the probable ease of getting such a documentary onto a streaming service.
Seriously. Did someone say that the only thing Linda did was that hit by 4 Non Blondes ?
Linda Perry (born April 15, 1965) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. She was the lead singer and primary songwriter of 4 Non Blondes, and has since founded two record labels and composed and produced hit songs for several other artists. They include: "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera; "What You Waiting For?" by Gwen Stefani; and "Get the Party Started" by P!nk. Perry has also contributed to albums by Adele, Alicia Keys, and Courtney Love, as well as signing and distributing James Blunt in the United States.
Perry was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2015.
I highly recommend the 'behind the music' video. It's jaw dropping. The abuse she endured as a child was awful. After her initial fame she survived a decade of heroin addiction but come back and helped define the music of the 2000's.
She is now happily married to Rosanne actress Sara Gilbert
Some songs written or produced by Linda Perry
"Get the Party Started" Pink "Beautiful" Christina Aguilera "Tomorrow" Lillix "What You Waiting For?" Gwen Stefani "Mono" Courtney Love "One Word" Kelly Osbourne "Idiot" Lisa Marie Presley "Save Me (Wake Up Call)" Unwritten Law "Redlight" Kelly Osbourne "Wonderful Life" Gwen Stefani "Perfect Stranger" Cheap Trick "Hurt" Christina Aguilera "Nothing But" Skin "Candyman" Christina Aguilera "Where Do We Go" Ben Jelen "Superwoman" Alicia Keys "Keeps Gettin' Better" Christina Aguilera "My Love" Celine Dion "La Scala (The Ladder)" Giusy Ferreri "Put Your Hearts Up" Ariana Grande "Hands of Love" Miley Cyrus
But even more excited to discover that Rayland Baxter is covering Mac Miller for a new EP! How did I not know about this and how am I going to split that potential set and Ruston Kelly? Damn.

I get an airbnb in Providence for 50-60 a night and drive back and forth.
I need all of you chill people to help me deal with the horrendous Friday conflicts. NO CAPS!
My biggest battle this year is how much of Todd Snider I want to watch. I literally was requesting him for YEARS and in this thread he's one of my first hopes for the year. Then they put him up against Highwomen and I really don't know how to handle this.
If it's Linda Perry and Juliette Lewis, you should all ask for a partial refund. "What's Going On" is the most annoying song of the 90's. 4 Non Blondes, Spin Doctors, and Blues Traveler were the bane of an otherwise great musical decade filled with so much wonderful stuff of many different kinds.
That's a hot take I can think of at least five 90's hits that are more annoying than that one.
Also, you've never been to Newport Folk Festival and it shows - no one who has actually experienced the magic that is NFF would ever ask for a partial refund.
I posted this before -- from what I''ve heard from...sources, and changes possible since then, its a pretty large group, that also includes Mavis, Sheryl Crow, and Linda Perry.
My intro to music was in the AM versus FM days. AM was mostly bubblegum, or the 2:56 version of Iron Butterfly, or Spinning Wheel without the Lew Soloff tpt. solo. And we loved it. We also loved FM: Janis and Jimi were gods, and we felt we personally knew Talking Heads. Linda Perry doesn't like "What's Going on," either. I think its a fun song from a decade that made music pop rock fun for me again. Listen to her acoustic version. What makes her a great is everything else she has done.
Someone recently posted they were looking for a 3-Day pass. Keep scrolling. Can't find it.
Sadly, it seems I have one three-day(or single Friday, Saturday and Sunday passes, but that's difficult to make work). Let me know before I put it on Lyte. Pay whatever I paid, I guess via venmo? idk.
Sadly, brother-sister 4-year-old buddy cats have turned violent on each other; my wife won't let me stay home with her as she tries to salvage "the family." Thankfully, my son can take one. At this point I don't give a hoot which act I catch. I know they will all give me something. Now, to whom do I pay the fee for this therapy session?
Looks like at the very least Juliette Lewis is interested... Maybe in attendance? And maybe performing herself during it?
Yikes!! I was thinking that "The Collaboration" would include the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, or (health permitting, and that's very doubtful in 2019) Joni Mitchell. (Carlile told a between-song story at Boston Calling about going to Joni Mitchell's home for dinner and to discuss a project.)

In hindsight, the fact that this isn't on the mainstage should have been a clue that these wouldn't be legendary performers.
Go back to the Boston Calling thread you troll. It's seriously impressive how wrong you are about everything you ever post. Thank god there is no public transit to Newport so I never have to even think about possibly encountering you in real life.

Two days until the best weekend of the year begins Work is going to go by so slow over the next day and a half!!
I've decided I'm going to plan on leaving earlier than normal on Friday morning and try for the Newport Harbor Shuttle, as I feel that'll be the optimal way to get in and out of the Fort to have enough time to get to the aftershow.
To anyone attending the Steal Your Folk aftershow, I just received an e-mail from Eventbrite that I thought I'd pass on this information to be helpful for once:
Dear Folk Family:
We look forward to seeing you at the Pickens Theater this weekend!
Please note: This show is 21+ with ID required. Seating is General Admission. G/A ticket holders can access G/A areas on a first-come, first-served basis at the event. Everyone attending the event must present a valid ID showing proof of age.
Will Call is the only allowed delivery method. No alternate pickup is allowed and tickets may not be transferred or sold to another party. To check in, you will need to have everyone in your group present. As the purchaser, you will be asked to present valid photo ID and the credit card used for purchase. Everyone in your group will then receive an entry wristband and can then proceed to the concert. Check-in begins at 7:30pm. Doors will open at 8:00pm, and show begins at 9:00pm. See you at the Pickens!
Thanks, Newport Folk Team
On a side note: just thought I'd throw this out there, does anyone need a ticket to the Vampire Weekend show at the Agganis Arena in Boston on Tuesday, September 3rd? I have a single Ticketmaster mobile ticket in FLR2 GA for sale, due to circumstances out of my control. If you're interested, let me know and we can work something out!

I agree. That's my biggest conflict as well. My thought is perhaps seeing the first half of the Highwomen to ensure I get close enough and then move over to Todd Snider if I'm not into it. I want to see Todd Snider so bad... but would have to opt for the Highwomen only because of the 4 vs 1 and the special guest possibilities are endless and it's their debut set. It's really such a bummer, because they're both as high on my list as anybody.
