Guests at Mavis so far: Jeff Tweedy, Lake Street Drive, Jason Isbell, Milk Carton Kids, Hozier, Brandy Carlile, Yola
Anyone get cell phone video of the inevitable cover of The Weight? With that lineup of special guests, I'm sure it's in the running for best all-star cover of The Weight in recorded history.
Only Hozier for The Weight last night - I imagine the other guests went to other after-shows or to bed after their song with Mavis

Ah, if only NPR put up professionally recorded after-show video like they do with many day sets.
Security line took about 40 minutes for us to get into the fest this morning. Not sure if it’ll get worse or better over the next few hours, but plan accordingly and sunscreen up before you get in it. Security was opening sunscreen and even looked through my wallet.
Line took us about 40 mins as well, got in at 1105.
Surprisingly they barely looked in my stuff too. If some security is going to be super strict and some barely existent there is not even any point to it. They need to figure out a better system next year.
The longest security line I’ve ever encountered in my four years at Newport!
Count me in for ridiculous long line to get in. Though I did get a later start than usual. So that's part of it for sure but even the bus driver was saying how crazy long the line was.
I got to bag check around 10:05 today and the same supervisor that cleared up my lens issue yesterday was going around and telling all of them to just to general checks from now on as the lines were getting way too long.
Ultimately they just didn’t have enough bag checkers this year. I’m not opposed to the more involved searches this year as I think anything less is just theater. Another big issue is that people seem to be bringing in more and more crap these days which just slows down the security lines. You would think these people were going to be leaving society for a few days straight rather than just a day relaxing with music.

I personally like to pack like I'm going on a two week river cruise down the Rhine.
Actually, since Shaky instituted their small bag rule, I've been amazed by how much shit I can do without.

The people who who bring a lot (coolers, bags, chairs with bags on them) wouldn't be slowing the lines up as much if they were more strict about the lines. On Friday they when we were going in they had people separating "family / no bag / bag or chair or cooler" into the separate lines. But Saturday and Sunday when going in they kind of gave up or didn't have people doing that. So it was all just one big line. Would be nice if they could find a way to expand it more and have more entrance checks. I know its tough since they had to move the entrance out beyond the visitor center which limits the space.
I was disappointed the first two days with missed opportunities. Kacey Musgraves didn’t invite any guests out. Maggie Rogers should have been more guest friendly. Etc. A lot of artists seemed to be going through the motions.
But today, it seems to be all over the place. Preservation Hall with the Dusters. Dawes backing JS Ondara. Hozier’s set. Etc. And the smaller artists seem to be fully taking in playing Newport and upping their game.

Sitting at home I wondered about Kacey. Did she have somewhere to be the next night? How did she not get in on any of those collaborations?
