I’ve never done the Newport bingo before, but I submitted this year. I can’t remmber if it was said that the boards would be posted before the lineup is done or not. I’m not rushing anyone if it’s just not done yet, I just wasn’t sure
What artist are you most hoping crosses over from Cambridge Folk Fest? When Darlingside was announced last year, were they already on Cambridge’s lineup? (I guess if the second question’s answer is a no, the first question is less important because the crossover act may not already be on Cambridge’s lineup.)
I am really really hoping it is Tunng. Would be a super unique booking for Newport. And given that Newport sent a Boston/New England band over to Cambridge last year I’d love to see Cambridge send a distinctively UK band over to Newport. Plus, I’d be dancing so hard in the corner of the field if they came and played “Hustle”.
since i've gone to newport i've admittedly become very jaded about major festival lineups (call it spoiled if you will, or maybe i'm just getting old and can't keep up), but the bonarooo lineup that just dropped is stacked. not sure about phish double headlining but they got:
rolling blackouts coastal fever phish avetts courtney barnett hozier kacey the national joe russo JOHN PRINE jim james shovels & rope ruston kelly phish (again) lumineers BRANDI mac demarco trampled by turtles wood brothers
and that's just my first pass thru the lineup. wow.

I agree, I think it looks good. Some other acts that might be of interest are: Caroline Rose The Nude Party The Teskey Brothers Monsieur Perine Lemon Twigs Bombino Faye Webster
I'm curious who will be included in the Grand Ole Opry set
Newport Festivals Foundation has made a donation on behalf of Cedric Burnside to support Old Town School of Folk Music’s financial aid program. In the last year, 490 students benefited from assistance, which is provided on a sliding scale. Of the students, 172 were adults, 209 were children, and 28 were teens, with children and teens representing 48% of the total awards.

only slightly ashamed to admit that i was previously unaware of every act announced so far (tweedy excluded). looking forward to discovering more about those announced so far but i could also go for a few heavy hitters in the next few weeks...

I am in the same boat as you! I hardly knew any of the acts from last year, either, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to all announced artists in preparation for the fest. I haven't had time yet to dig into this year's announcements, but I'm sure there will be many wonderful new discoveries this time around as well. Now if only Lyte comes through for me......

Agreed. Newport is the gift that keeps on giving. Literally.
Anais Mitchell is the big find I made so far this year. I realize now that i tried to write her name last year after hearing 'Why we build the wall' in my car. Such a song of our times yet written years before it became the current talking point.
The lyrics to 'Young Man In America' are some of the best I've ever heard. Lyte will come through for you as the festival nears.

Should we count out any of the artists announced for Green River Festival? Namely, First Aid Kit, Rhiannon Giddens and Devil Makes Three? www.greenriverfestival.com/
Normally I’d guess that Phil Lesh would be a headliner, but it’s almost impossible for me to believe that we have 2 headliners in early January with about 3 months left of announcements.
So I’m going to boldly predict that Lesh is going to be a pre-headliner.

Who's the other potential headliner?
Wasn’t If I Had a Song announced as the final set on Sunday? I know we always go back and forth each year as to whether or not these sets are headliners, but they have been in the past.
I remember last year thinking Sturgill was Friday’s headliner only for Jason Isbell to be added later. I could see something similar playing out again. Hell... is Lesh as close to the National as Bob is? Would be cool to see Lesh into the National and Friends.
