Really enjoying the Nude Party, although I'm wearing a towel and socks. Less bar band than Low-cut Connie; reminds me of a cross fertilization of Youngloods and Rascals circa 1970's, a little Dandy Warhols circa 90's, with a sprinkling of Brooklyn indie 2019. Still hope Newport brings back Low-cut or War and Treaty. Kinda sad when I really get into a band such as the Jones Family Singers, and then they disappear from the Newport scene. Don't know whether its because they are seen as novelties, don't "fit" the Newport family, or just so too many bands not to give more of them a chance.
If there is the rock 'n roll bar band slot, should we expect a Conchords / Cheech and Chong slot to continue?
I’d guess mostly the “too many bands” thing, especially for the artists who just kind of stick around a lower level of popularity. Spirit Family Reunion is another one, and even Felice Brothers to some degree even though they’re back every couple years. You could maybe even say it for Deer Tick.
As far as comedy goes, ptions are a little more limited there. Don’t think they’d do tenacious d and definitely not lonely island. Weird Al’s doing his big orchestra tour. Anyone else? Garfunkel & Oates?
If the museum was bigger I’d propose a Marc Maron live podcast but I don’t see how it wouldn’t be a mess.
The Yachting Museum will no longer be in the museum building. Seems like they are going to expand it, and make it a museum of NFF/NJF memorabilia.
That's outstanding news. But I may be missing something. If there is a museum of NFF and NJF, I assume that would be in the entrance, and the music venue would remain the same, meaning even longer lines. However, with environmental studies involved, that would indicate construction. But where? On pontoons would be cool! Expanding the building toward the Harbor Stage and adding some stadium seating?
(What is the building to the left of the Harbor Stage?)
Seriously! I'd love to see a few more crossovers between the fests, really pulling for Yola, J.S. Ondara, Madison Cunningham and the return of the Cactus Blossoms to the fort

The visitors center? I think that’s the one you’re referring to.
This part makes it sound like they are leasing a new building...
“DEM and the foundation also entered a 40-year lease for Building 16, which will become the festivals’ museum. In addition to displays, the building also will contain a performance space that will provide a venue for young musicians who are the beneficiaries of the philanthropic educational grants provided by the Festivals Foundation.”
I don’t know what building 16 is...sounds like itll become the museum we know today.
This part makes it sound like the current museum will become a actual museum.
“A renewed lease with the state Department of Environmental Management allows the foundation to use and make improvements to the building that formerly housed the Museum of Yachting building. It would become a museum with displays relating to the iconic music festivals at Fort Adams. The building now serves as the home of the Museum Stage during the weekend-long festival.”
Fuji Rock lineup announced for the weekend of Newport. Notable NFF-related artists are: Alvvays, Death Cab, King Gizzard, the Lumineers, Mitski, and Stella Donnelly
This looks like there are already or there will be some new buildings...
I remember one year ending up in some museum building next to the hill and the Harbour stage. I even watched J Roddy from some balcony. But I don’t see that building on the map; it was north of that little hill. I think it was blocked off last year from attendees.

This pic isn’t from the fest. It’s from another event at the fort. Was just a good pic for reference of buildings.

Felice Brothers new album and tour dates announced. They have a show in May at the Columbus theatre. Not sure if that hurts their chances but with a new album out and being a highlight set some years back I'm hoping they get announced for this years fest. Would be the first time with the new band lineup.
Wonder if there will be crossover with the Forecastle Fest? Some great musicians playing there forecastlefest.com/lineup/#/
Already sharing Liz Cooper. But wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more. Maggie Rogers is an easy bet. A Dawes return is always a possibility. Lucius will never not be around. Andrew Bird, First Aid Kit, and Julia Jacklin could all come back. Would love to see Noname on the lineup

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but do we think Kacey headlines Friday after this Grammy domination?
I don’t think so. I’m still suspecting she’s Friday’s subheadliner (w/ Phil Lesh closing the Quad). Her announcement was very reserved; she didn’t even retweet it on Instagram as she has been with other festivals she’s been booked (like Bonnaroo).
Speaking of Forecastle, did Tyler Childers get some hometown bump, or has he really gotten that big in the last year?
He's huge. Sub-headlining Merlefest this year alongside the likes of Brandi Carlile and the Avetts. His show in NC sold out VERY quickly early last year. Dude's broken through.

I realize I might be part of a small sect here but AA Bondy just announced a Brooklyn show (at least). Guy hasn't played a show that I'm aware of in years. Wonder if he could somehow be on Jay's radar.

Yea, I was coming here to post about him having a new album coming out in May. I'm so excited. I thought he wouldn't be doing anything music related anymore because it has been a LONG time. He was fantastic at Bonnaroo and I can't wait to see what new material he's been working on.

Wow! Haven't thought of AA Bondy in a long time. When the Devil's Loose was on heavy rotation for a few years there, would love to see him at the Fort.
grammys were great for Brandi and Kacey but I can't be the only one who noticed how weird it was NOT to have brandi and margo involved in the dolly tribute, particularly with them doing "9-5" but oh well.
anyone else itching for a big announcement? solid start but when someone mentioned we were 1/3 of the way through, i started getting antsy for some heavy hitters...
