I haven't been able to get into Dawes. I much prefer the Barnstar! cover of When My Time Comes to the original. Then again I couldn't get into Sturgill Simpson, and since seeing him absolutely rock the Fort last year he is now a fave. Hope the same happens with Dawes. Still gonna try to give the album another listen with fresh ears
Today’s announcement means we’re already halfway through the lineup. I remember someone usually doing a Clashfinder and filling it out as the announcements roll out. Is anyone doing one this year?

I think I started one at one point, but haven't gone back to it much. If I have time this weekend I'll update

I find it pretty difficult at this point to grasp where certain acts might be playing on the schedule.
Is Amy Ray Band a Harbour closer because she’s an Indigo Girl? Or earlier in the day because she has so few plays on Spotify?
Is Dawes a headliner? Main stage subheadliner? Quad closer (to get some extra time for the album set)?
Where does Stephen Marley fit in? In the usual reggae spot? Or is he smaller than Jimmy Cliff and/or Toots?

I saw her last night opening for Hozier. She came out and crushed a solo acoustic set! She should be on everyone's radar for this fest!

Didn't realize she didn't have an album because she has released so many great singles on Spotify already. Newport has already come through in introducing us to two great new artists in JS Ondara and Jade Bird.
Todd Snider's new release today has some great songs on it as well.

Am very happy with the lineup this year.
Jade's album will be amazing. Expecting big things for her. I'm loving the lineup too. Each year i check out four or five of any unfamiliar annnounced artist's most watched youtube videos. Best part of Newport is discovering great new music. The only downside is that as you grow to love more and more artists you're making difficult lineup conflicts later. Worth it. Works crazy so i'm playing catch up. I checked out Cedric Burnside. Wow. I'll defintely try see him if i can. I never knew his grandfather R. L. Burnside was a great old bluesman who's music was mixed a lot in the 90s. Was even used on the Sopranos soundtrack.
Deciding to share my Clashfinder that I usually keep private as I am usually wayyy off. But alas, here is mine. Please let me know what you think and if you have any critiques/have any ideas of who will fill in the rest of the spots: clashfinder.com/s/newportfolk2k19/?user=Andyd17
Those of you who have Newport to thank for discovering Jade Bird (I am one), if you haven’t yet explored Liz Cooper, I highly recommend.
She sounds like Jade Bird / Elle King meets Houndmouth. Live, her band really jams / rocks... (in fact, I wish they were given more credit than just being a backing band “The Stampede”).

I'm guessing we get Leon Bridges, Phosphorescent, Justin Townes Earle, The Wild Reeds, and Caroline Rose. Maybe Edie Brickell
I hope Amy Ray is our Edie Brickell. Nothing against either of them; I like the diversity one brings, but don’t need a second dose of early 90s pop alt folk.
I didn't know Edie Brickell is still touring, and she strikes me as a "one hit wonderful." And I am sure someone says this every time she performs, but could she be the last best hope for a husband Paul Simon walk on?

I think she could fit. Wouldn’t surprise me if she’s added.

New Nathaniel Rateliff dates with Lucius. Newport weekend is still open but they are playing in Boise, ID on July 25th and in Vancouver on July 30th. Does that rule them out? That's a bit of a hike

But I also thought I’m With Her would be out because they were in Colorado. They are going from Colorado to Newport back to back days. So still possible...I guess.

The dates there would make it unlikely, but not as much as Levitation

She's better than one hit wonder. I like a lot of their songs. Check out this video:
Newport Festivals Foundation has made a donation on Yola's behalf to Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities (YEAH!). Funding will go straight towards YEAH!'s Scholarship Fund which helps send youth to Rock Camps and other programming. Over 60% of participating youth attend on scholarship and no camper has ever been turned away due to lack of funds. The funding directly supports YEAH!'s mission to build a culture of positive self-esteem and collaboration among girls and gender non-conforming youth while building community through music.

Yola was listed on Pastes Top Acts from SXSw 2019 article with a very intriguing write up.
She was a part of Andrew Bird's Live from the Great Room set. Here's a clip from it, I think you can find the whole thing on his facebook page. They sounded great together
