I'm getting a bit bummed that the days are so sub-genre specific. I wish the stuff I'm most into was spread out over all three days, and I'm sure other people who are loving a different specific day feel the same. My Friday and Sunday are looking to be really light, while there's already no way I'll be able to see everything I want to on Saturday. I know some of my NFF family will claim Saturday is really light, so I'm not knocking anything/anyone, but rather just wishing similar acts were more spread out (for everyone's sake).
Number of acts by day I'm excited about at this point:
Friday: 2-3 Saturday: 8 Sunday: 1
I know there are still lots of announcements to come, and I know it will be my favorite weekend of the year regardless, but that's just my one (little?) wish at this point.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
not that i'm disappointed at all, but if the final line up doesn't have strand of oaks, better oblivion or robert ellis, i'm gonna be scratching my head just a bit.

Adding Calexico and Iron & Wine, Andrew Bird, Beirut, and the Mountain Goats to that list.
*the only thing I can say to that is that Newport/Jay has mentioned before that they don’t go after artists in a typical touring album cycle because they are often too in demand and too expensive. But I can’t imagine Phoebe not being willing to take a pay cut to come back to the fest where she went from relative unknown to headlining with Mumford and Sons.

Most other years I'd be really fine with the Parker Millsap announcement.
Three concerns -- he is doing a lot of solo touring and there are just so many sit back and have a nice sandwich performers I want to hear about at the moment. If there are other genres, extremely unique indies I don't know, or big names, I'd sure like hear a few as I pass up concerts and schedule around other festivals that look damn good. And personally, as per ilovethisgame, too many performers I really want to see on Friday...and it looks likeI'll have two useless tickets on my hand that day.
Are we still sure another Sunday AM slot will be taken by Preservation Hall? I'll bet there are some really interesting Sunday AM type folks who would be incredible. I still wake up to a song the Jones Family on my alarm.

I saw their set the first year that Ben Jaffa’s joined the board, and he made it sound like it was going to be an annual thing: starting Sunday with PH on the main stage. It’s only been a few years so I’m not sure if that’s going to change this fast. I love them and they put on a great show, but they also tend to play the same songs 90% of the time.

I just remembered the 2013 after shows at the Jane Pickens were titled "Dawes and Friends" and featured Isbell, Misty, Old Crow, Jim James and Blake Mills. There are a few things that stick out from those shows:
1. Blake Mills and Dawes playing "After Midnight" the night JJ Cale died.
2. Father John Misty played (maybe debuted?) "The Night Josh Tillman Came To Our Apartment" and blew everyone's mind.
3. Jim James, Dawes, Blake Mills, and Misty on Tambourine closing out with "Lean on Me."
Sorry if that was already pointed out. I think those were two of the best Pickens shows ever. I'm guessing Dawes will play their album straight through at the fest but maybe we'll get some magic like that night.

All three are together in Boston in September, so I'd assume they're out for Newport. You might get one. Wouldn't expect all three.
Is it wrong that I look at festival lineup after festival lineup and just lament that they all played NFF first?
Fully agree with this statement
Newport has been consistently out front on so many names on other posters
which is funny why I read so many people bitching about small band names when they announce new artists.... these are the next Courtney Barnetts Leon Bridges, Avetts etc

I was there and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.... but Friday Pickens last year was one for the ages
I feel like a lot of the artists announced are artists people on here have wished to have at some point. It's like Newport are giving us what we want.
agreed....
I haven't been on the thread much because it seems to turn into a whine session. There are like 2000 people on LYTE hoping to get tickets, if you all are so disappointed there are plenty of people who will take them.
But before you do think about what's it's like walking out of the fort each day knowing you witnessed at least one set, one music moment that couldn't have happened elsewhere versus a for profit Live Nation soul sucking money grab.
Very on brand booking for NFF. First time he’s played? If so, a bit surprising it took so long.
With that said, not sure if I can continue to get excited for *insert person’s name* announcements moving forward unless that person is Dolly, Bruce, Neil, Eddie, or Paul.
This last sentence is what's wrong with so much of this thread. Really????

Looks like the thread police have shown up... why do you care if other people don’t like something as much as you do? Get over yourself, people voicing their honest displeasure isn’t whining and you sound verrrrrry stuck up over this

Longtime lurker, first time responding. While I agree with some of this, I don't think you approached it the right way. People have a right to have their own opinions and share them - isn't that what a forum is for? We're discussing the lineup and artists announced (thus far).
However, it does seem a bit hypocritical of folks to say "In Jay We Trust," yet express concern or question his choices - when the full lineup isn't out yet. I personally don't think it's fair to judge until the last artist has been announced - but I also understand that people have expectations. This isn't anything new to any of us - we're accustomed to wait, and usually patience pays off. There's a method to their madness, which is why the festival continues to sell out every year. I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in store.
So far, I've got a single day ticket to Friday (that was just fulfilled through Lyte yesterday) and couldn't be happier.

No matter who's announced there will be people pissed off. Most change there tune near the end of the announcement cycle. Then more are freaking estatic in the days right after the festival. If newport was a stock I'd buy on the dips. It wins in the end. What's sad is Jay thanked folks on another site last year stating they were more positive than other forums. Its fine saying you ain't crazy about announcements. It's also fine to say hang in there and suggesting they try listening to artists they don't know. Whats awesome is that most people love music and love sharing and talking about it.

On a more positive note, does anyone else think that Christone "Kingfish" Ingram would be a great addition for the Sunday lineup? It looks like he has an opening in his tour for that Sunday, and he'll already be at the XPoNential Music Festival that Friday (in which shares some artists with Newport on occassion):

I don’t see anyone being holier than thou on the other side, only this doofus. Who cares if other people go to a music festival?
Sorry, I just hate anything resembling the “it’s not about the lineup, it’s about the vibes maaaan” mantra that people use for Bonnaroo. It’s a way of silencing any criticism about the event, even the valid ones.
