I was going to take my kid to see her. She's touring with heart and elle king around newport time. Isn't Elle King going to the Mavis newport concert? Not a fan of elle but its curious.
Ok which of you guys asked newport about the podcasts haha? Apparently they said yes they are coming. Also my kid just told me Margo commented she'll be there again. She always finds a way to do something special at newport.
I love Sheryl Crow but am I in the minority to think she won’t headline? I am still pulling for Willie to close out friday, and have Sheryl play midday before Kacey Musgraves.

I'm with you there, I don't think she's the headliner either.
I too would love for Willie to be there with his son, and he certainly has his schedule open during that time! Finally got to see Willie at Farm Aid last year and I thought he was pretty great.

Not that this means anything, but in 2018 she was listed below Sturgill on Bonnaroo’s lineup... and Sturgill did not headline NFF.
With that said, I also don’t think that she’s our headliner. I am really thinking some Brandi project might be (The Highwomen or a Brandi and Friends set covering a classic album). Or... that NFF is bringing back Emmylou or landed Dolly.

If Dolly happens it will have been a recent development. Jay implied fairly recently (maybe around the grammys?) that they've tried to book her but it hasn't worked out

Ahh. Good to know. I seemed to remember Dolly reposting the video of Margo and Brandi last year covering 9 to 5, and thought that may have been an in. Even if a long shot.
Then I’ll stick with my prediction that some Brandi project will be the headliner.
I don't think we should be sleeping on David Byrne for this year, even if last year made more sense with touring. He may more affordable this year since he's off the road. Aside that, I'm expecting half of these names to show up at the fest this year.

I mean a bunch played last year. Isbell, Batiste, Lone Bellow, Warren Haynes with Nels, Valerie June, Nicole Atkins, Phoebe, War & Treaty, Lucius, and Phil Cook with Hiss.
Dawes and Lake Street Dive are already announced and Prine probably isn't happening. Doesn't leave a ton of options, but I'd take Milk Carton Kids and Benjamin Booker returns.

To be fair, Lukas Nelson & the Promise of the Real played last year and are playing the festival again. That might be the only repeat so far though that I'm aware of, unless if you count Rachael from Lake Street Dive (who was with Vilray). I could see any of the following:
Benjamin Booker
Warren Haynes (This time, maybe a full solo acoustic set)
Lucius (or maybe a guest spot in Lukas's set, perhaps, since they are the backup vocals on one his most recent albums)
The Lone Bellow
All of which have openings in their tour schedules for that weekend. We'll see! Exciting times, that's for sure!

Lucius are out of town that weekend. They are in Canada doing those folk feats.

Ah, bummer. At least the rest are free, I believe. I'm still really excited to see what they have in store for us!
Sharon Van Etten is at Interstellar Rodeo in Edmonton on Folk Friday. Hopefully she can get back to this side of the country by weekend.
She is also playing Calgary Folk Festival that weekend, though that runs from Thursday to Sunday, so she is still potentially available Saturday or Sunday.
Similarly, Nathaniel Rateliff is playing both fests, it looks like Saturday at Calgary Folk and Sunday at Interstellar.
I'd have to search, but someone here or on Facebook posted a series of tweets...forget it...ha...see below!
P.S. -- Saw those Mavis shows. And I passed on the Apollo....Marc you goofball....says a ton about what Mavis' peers think of this wonderful songstress.

I'd have search, but someone here, I'm quite sure, posted a series of tweets: a request for The National to play Newport, their reply that they would love to curate a stage for a day astray did in Forest Hills (thus my connection), and Jay chiming in with a positive note. It was nothing formal. But breadcrumbs are fun to follow. I'll look or perhaps someone else recalls more.
I think that was about doing a Day of the Dead set. Someone asked about it and one of the Dessners responded saying jokingly that they'd love to but it wouldn't work because they'd need to have the stage for a day. Jay said something to the effect of "we never said that couldn't happen"

This is correct, it was me. Still holding out for the National in any form but who knows...

Just de-lurking to say the Sheryl announcement makes me more confident that Willie will end up being the headliner. Between her and Kacey and Lukas that is a lot of Outlaw / Farm Aid presence on that day already.
Saw Sheryl at Farm Aid a few years ago. Not only was her set great, she sang with just about everybody else too. And seemed to be having a blast. Great addition.
Outside of Dawes and Peter Seeger tribute, this is probably one of the more unique sets announced so far. Don’t sleep on either Molly or Billy... and together... that’s going to be phenomenal (I don’t see any other tour dates or fest appearances where they are playing together).
Have the Dodos ever played the Fort? I don't recall ever seeing them on a lineup. Obviously, they would have made the most sense between 2011 and 2013, but they have a new album coming out, and songs off of it sound as you'd expect (enjoyable, folky, percussion driven, fun). I would love to see them on this year's lineup. They were one of my favorite bands in their early days; yet I still haven't seen them live. (I once had tickets for a show when they were touring with the Felice Brothers... but work caused me to miss the first act... and that turned out to be the Dodos set).
These new King Gizz songs are really intensifying my desire to see them at the fort
Holy shit I never would have though this hit that would be amazing. I feel like that would be a pretty out of bounds booking for jay though. The closest I could think that they’ve booked would be Khruangbin but that makes more sense to me at the folk fest than Gizz. But I fully support it

I think I've said this a couple times, but I saw someone wearing a Gizz shirt at Newport once right after having a discussion about what kind of out-of-the-box bookings they could get and then had the idea for Gizz to do a set where they play their acoustic album Paper Mache Dream Balloon in full. But these two songs would also fit great. Agreed it doesn't feel like a Jay booking, but I can still hope.
